MEMORIAL UNION RENOVATIONS Construction is currently underway on an $18.5 million renovation of ESU’s Memorial Union. The total project is slated to be complete by fall of 2012. The Memorial Union was constructed in 1925 in memory of the students who fought and died in World War I. Additions were constructed in 1958, 1963 and 1972. Students approved, 739-181, a fee increase to help pay for the project. A Lawrence architectural firm, Treanor Architects P.A., designed the renovation plan following a series of meetings with ESU students, staff and Emporia residents. Included in the renovation: • Creation of new student lounge space and performance area • Renovation of the current student cafeteria • An addition on the east side of the building featuring a new entrance, information center and Admissions office • Redesigned entrances to the building’s west, south and east sides • Redesigned meeting spaces and traffic patterns inside the building • Environmentally-friendly improvements to the building’s heating, ventilation and cooling systems
