Coach Jory Collins Emporia State University Director of Athletics Kent Weiser announced on April 27, 2010 that 2002 ESU graduate Jory Collins will become the sixth head coach of the Lady Hornet basketball team. Collins was the lead assistant last season as the Lady Hornets won the NCAA Division II National Championship. “It is truly an honor to be named the head women’s basketball coach at Emporia State University. Collins has been a member of the Lady Hornet coaching staff for nine seasons and ESU has advanced to the NCAA tournament in eight of those seasons. He has been the recruiting coordinator since 2007 and was responsible for the recruitment of five of the seven returners for the Lady Hornets. “I am confident the future of the Lady Hornet program is in talented and capable hands,” said Weiser. “I am excited to work with Coach Collins as he makes his mark on our exceptional women’s basketball program.” Starting in 2000-01, Collins has been involved in almost every aspect of the Lady Hornet program. He served as a practice player while a student/ volunteer assistant from 2000-03. He returned to the program as a graduate assistant in 2004 after a year as a fifth grade teacher at Lowther South Intermediate School in Emporia. As a GA he was responsible for the Lady Hornets strength and conditioning program, travel, film exchange and coordinating the fall and spring individual workouts. He returned to the Lady Hornet bench for the start of the 2006-07 season as a volunteer coach and was promoted to full assistant in the spring of 2007. In addition to his recruiting efforts, Collins has been in charge different aspects of play on the court focusing on post play in 2009-10, scouting as well as strength and conditioning as a full assistant. “I’d like to thank our President Dr. Lane and Athletic Director Kent Weiser for this terrific opportunity,” said Collins. “Kent was extremely helpful this past week in providing me with information as well as being receptive to my thoughts on the future of the program.”
