ROAD ACCESSES TO THE FORUM 2004 BARCELONA

Page 1

The urban actions linked to the Forum 2004 included the improvement of the road network and the accesses to the Coastal Ringroad with the construction of the side lanes on both sides of the Ringroad in the stretch between the streets Bilbao and Taulat, and the work necessary on existing structures and newly built structures to provide a suitable transverse permeability to the Ringroad at the Bac de Roda, Josep Plá, San Ramón de Penyafort, Selva de Mar and Taulat streets. The extremely tight schedule and the overlap with other works involving the Forum made it necessary to seek quality solutions that permitted a rapid execution without affecting the traffic of the Ringroad, using solutions involving metal, composite structures and reinforced or prestressed concrete. The covering of the 40 m width of the existing roads of the Ringroad and the side access roads between Rambla Prim and S. Ramon de Penyafort was solved using a large, bridge-like structure of approximately 21,000 m2 that provided access from the end of the Diagonal and the Rambla Prim to the Esplanade of the Forum, of which it also forms part.
