Middle, Secondary, and Mathematics Education Secondary Chemistry Do you want to become a Chemistry teacher? The Department of Middle, Secondary, and Mathematics Education within JMU’s College of Education has the right program for you: Secondary Education! You will major in Chemistry and apply for the undergraduate pre-professional program in Secondary Education. Your pre-professional program will begin as a freshman or sophomore when you take a few select prerequisite classes. Throughout your undergraduate career, you will align some of your Chemistry major classes with your Secondary Education program requirements to make sure you have a thorough understanding of your content for when you teach it. Finally, you will complete a 5th year Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) graduate program, which is required for licensure in Secondary Education. Upon successful completion of both the undergraduate and graduate programs, you will have the knowledge, skills, and experiences necessary to be an exceptional Chemistry teacher for grades 6-12 in Virginia’s public schools.
