After an involuntary and prolonged wait of two years, due to the COVID19 pandemic, it was possible to carry on with the XV edition of the Chihuahua Express, which saw in its previous edition, how Miguel Granados won in his Porsche 911, beating Doug Mocket in his legendary Oldsmobile 88 and Luis Cervantes aboard a powerful Studebaker Champion.

Scrutiny Day

Procedures such as the sports license of the Federation, last minute tasks and review of details of the cars, placement of the official decals, scrutiny of cars and medical review of the crews. The Hotel Sheratton Soberano, the center of operations, like every year.

Operation Centers

Capital, Ciudad Madera, Divisadero and Ojinaga became, like every year, temporary operations centers for the teams that for a few minutes check and leave their cars ready in the best mechanical conditions to resume the route of each day and finish the timed sections in the shortest time possible, in a race against others and themselves.

With the support and recommendations of Chrystian A. Llamas Loya, Coordinator of FITA Chihuahua, from the Ministry of Innova tion and Economic Development, the route for Day 2 of the competi tion, the route to Divisadero, was modified with demanding sections and long speed stages.

The participants were very excited and eager to run the next edition of this great event, without forgetting that this route that ends in the Copper Canyon is full of landscapes and wooded landscapes under an intense blue sky that can only be seen in this area of the country.

The last day of the race, the shortest of all and certainly the hottest, is run in the desert area of the northeast of the state, towards Pre sidio, Texas, a town no more than a few blocks across the border, just next to the Mexican city of Ojinaga. The fastest route of the Chihuahua Express, due to its long straights crossing scenarios reminiscent of the American westerns of our childhood, with the occasional and typical cattle skulls on the sides of the asphalt, the occasional deer, rabbits, vultures flying overhead and sudden roadrunners like wan ting to have their own race. The obligatory stop of the day, the Pegüis Canyon, the wild nature in all its splendor.

Hilaire and Laura Damiron, who participated in this event for the first time, in 2015 and were fourth overall on that occasion, last Sunday, May 1, were crowned first place in their category and obviously first overall. Eduardo Henkel and Sergio Puente, old veterans of the race and regular occupants of the podium in this competition, now take the second absolute position ahead of Luma García and Jimmy Zapata who occupied the third place of honor.
