The only thing better than the gracious accommodations are the hosts themselves. Jeff and Chris, are lively innkeepers and avid travelers who have stayed in many small inns throughout Europe. They replicate those experiences with thoughtful touches. Guests are greeted with a complementary beer, or local wine and a tray of locally produced cheese and sausage. Also available, 24 hours-a-day, are amazing, (trust me) homebaked cookies, water, soda, fresh fruit and protein bars. You never know quite what you’ll get because he alters it to match what was picked up that week from the communitysupported organic, agricultural program. consider how much there is to do in Defiance. “One couple” Chris said, “booked the place for three weeks there was so much to do, and they’ve already booked their return trip.” Located just a block off of Highway 94 in the heart of Defiance, the 262 mile, Katy Bike Trail and bike rental are steps away. Many of the guests use the inn as a stopping point on their cross-state trek. Within a few miles are kayak and canoe rentals, seven hiking trails, three golf courses, the Daniel Boone home and just a little further out, antiqueing and two new outlet malls. And that’s not even mentioning the abundant wineries and restaurants, several within walking distance. Restaurants range from bar food to casually elegant with typically seven different live music venues on the weekends. With all there is to choose from, Chris and Jeff are happy to advise and help you make dinner reservations, arrange a wine tasting shuttle, or coordinate a guided Missouri river tour.
