Whatever it Takes...to get every child in Leicester reading. The initiative is made up of a diverse and innovative set of projects and events, which range from grants to supporting targeted work within schools to author workshops for over 4000 children. The initiative is chaired by Liz Warren (Strategic Lead for City Primary Heads) and Bill Morris (Director of the Education Improvement Partnership) and is supported by a range of organisations within the city. Co-chair Bill Morris says “Whatever it Takes is once again delighted to be supporting Everybody’s Reading, Leicester’s excellent and totally unique annual festival which celebrates the sheer joy and love of reading.” ER 2013 promises to be one of the best yet, with an impressive range of cultural events aimed at promoting and developing the culture of reading across Leicester City and its diverse communities. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Leicester’s schools and the City Council for providing the financial and structural support that allows ER to thrive year-on-year and for recognising the inextricable link between reading and achievement in all of its manifestations. It continues to be an enormous privilege to be involved with such great initiatives as Everybody’s Reading and Whatever it Takes and to feel the buzz of excitement and optimism that is generated when individuals unite together around a collective ambition and decide that we can make a difference - and we will!

Everybody’s Reading is brought to you by a dedicated and creative partnership: Leicester Libraries, SDSA, WORD!, Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, LASALS, NUT, BBC Radio Leicester and SLB Distribution & Promotion Services Ltd. Without the continued support of these organisations you wouldn’t be reading through this diverse programme of events and deciding which workshop, storytelling or performance you should go to first! This year we even have our own song. Specially written and performed by John Butler, lead singer and songwriter with seminal Leicester rock band, Diesel Park West, it is appropriately entitled, 'Everybody's Reading'. It will be available as a free download from our website from late September. It’s a pleasure to be able to present the Everybody’s Reading Festival 2013 to Leicester and I hope Leicester enjoys the Festival. Juliet Martin, Festival Co-ordinator juliet.martin@sdsa.net

I’m thrilled to be supporting Leicester’s Everybody’s Reading campaign through a whole City Read of Boys Don’t Cry. It’s so important that everybody reads because reading is FUN, it promotes empathy and it allows us to see through the eyes of others other cultures, races, genders, ages, religions, classes, professions. Reading allows us to create connections and to communicate with other people. Long live reading! Children’s Laureate 2013
