The following drivers have been named by the United States Equestrian Federation to represent the U.S. in the 2013 FEI Pony World Driving Championships.

Paul Maye

Born: October 12, 1967 Residence: Fairfield, Va. Markus – 12-year-old American Sport Pony stallion owned by Harmony Sporthorses

Paul Maye has competed in combined driving for several years, as well as in pleasure and carriage driving, winning numerous awards at the country’s most prestigious shows. In 2009, Maye and his driving pony, Markus, finished second in the Preliminary Single Pony division at the Southern Pines CDE. They finished out the year by winning the Preliminary Single Pony at the Kentucky Cup and Lexington Driving Classic. In 2011, Maye and Markus moved up to the Advanced level, finishing second in the Katydid CDE in the Advanced Single Pony division.

Single Pony Maye kicked off 2012 with second-place finishes in the Advanced Single Pony divisions at the Sunshine State CDE and the Live Oak International CAI with Markus. The pair then went on to win at the Southern Pines CDE. They finished out the year by claiming the USEF National Combined Driving Single Pony Championship at Kentucky Classic CDE. In 2013, Maye and Markus took home top honors at the Little Everglades International CAI. They finished second at Live Oak and then went on to receive Reserve Champion honors in the USEF National Combined Driving Single Pony Championship at the Southern Pines

CDE. In the fall, the pair won the Kentucky Classic CDE Advanced Single Pony division. Maye operates a family-run business, Maye Show Ponies at Boston Run, with wife Cheryl and son Ethan. Their main focus is producing quality young ponies for the breeding and performance rings. The husband and wife team have been professional handlers and trainers for several years.

Tracey Morgan Born: July 15, 1956 Residence: Beallsville, Md.

Although she has been riding since the age of 14, Tracey Morgan’s driving career took off just more than 15 years ago. In 2002 and 2003, she had a pair of first-place finishes at the USET Festival of Champions. She also earned the USEF National Pony Pair Champion title at The Laurels at Landhope Combined Driving Event (CDE) in 2002. In 2006 alone, Morgan and her ponies were champions at The Laurels at Landhope, the Gladstone CAI-B, and Fair Hill International. The following year, she had a repeat win at the Gladstone CAI-B, and a second-place finish at Live Oak International CAI.

Single Pony Morgan was nothing short of spectacular in 2008 and 2009; her accomplishments include wins at The Laurels at Landhope, and the Gladstone CAI-B in 2008. In spring 2009, she was champion in the FEI Pair Pony divisions at Sunshine State and Live Oak. In August, Morgan represented the U.S. at the FEI World Pony Driving Championships in Germany. She also went onto win the 2009 USEF National Pairs Pony Championships in October. In 2011, Morgan finished fourth at the Live Oak and won the Advanced Pair Pony division at the Katydid CDE. She shifted her focus to the Single Pony division and

Morgan and Fuego 88 finished out the year as the USEF National Combined Driving Single Pony Reserve Champions at the Kentucky Classic CDE. Morgan and Fuego 88 began 2013 with a win at the Sunshine State CDE. They then had two third-place finishes at Little Everglades and Live Oak. After winning the USEF National Combined Driving Single Pony Championship at the Southern Pines CDE, she and Fuego 88 continued their winning ways at the Glen Willow CDE and Hermitage Classic CDE. Morgan is also a dressage competitor and has received Silver and Bronze Medals from the United States Dressage Federation.

Jennifer Matheson Born: March 23, 1960 Residence: Aiken, S.C.

Jennifer Matheson of Aiken, S.C. is among the most experienced pony drivers in the United States. Originally from Ontario, she represented Canada in the Single Pony division at the 2005 FEI World Pony Driving Championships in England. At these Championships, Matheson finished in eighth driving Dannyloo. In recent years, Matheson has begun driving under the U.S. flag and focused on the Pair Pony division. In 2009, Matheson collected a pair of wins at the Southern Pines CDE and The Laurels at Landhope CDE. She finished off the year with a third-place finish at the 2009 USEF National Pair Pony Driving Championship.

Pair Pony 2010 was a banner year for Matheson as she picked up victories up and down the east coast. Her wins included Little Everglades International CAI, Sunshine State CAI, Southern Pines, and The Laurels at Landhope. Matheson remained on top form into 2011. She began the season with a second-place finish at Sunshine State and three weeks later went one place better at Little Everglades. In March, she drove to the top placing in the USEF National Pair Pony Driving Championship at Live Oak International. The team then traveled to Europe to take part in the FEI World Combined Pony Driving Championships where they finished 10th individually in

Matheson collected a third-place finish at Live Oak, before being named the USEF National Combined Driving Pair Pony Champion at Southern Pines CDE. She claimed yet another win at the Glen Willow CDE in the Advanced Pair Pony division. Matheson drives for her mother-in-law, Katrina Becker, and runs the successful Katydid Farm.

Wendy O’Brien is an extremely active member of the Aiken, S.C. horse community. She has ties to both the local driving and eventing communities. O’Brien has made a name for herself on the U.S. driving scene. In 2010, O’Brien won the Advanced Pair Pony division at the Garden State CDE. She then finished second at The Laurels at Landhope CDE. In 2011, O’Brien contested the USEF National Pair Pony Driving Championship at Live Oak International CAI in March. In April, she won the Advanced Pair Pony division at the Southern

Pony Team Kathleen “Katie� Whaley has been driving for 30 years. She has been pinned Grand Champion at the Devon Horse Show and the Walnut Hill Farm Show for pleasure driving. Whaley has represented the U.S. in combined driving at the 2003 and 2005 FEI Pony World Driving Championships, and she has been both National Four-inHand Champion and National Single Horse Champion. Whaley began 2009 by finishing third in the FEI Pair Pony division at the Sunshine State CAI. She traveled to Europe and competed successfully, earning four top ten finishes. In July at the Pin au Haras CAIP-2 in France, Whaley earned a second-place finish with her pair of ponies. Upon returning to the states, she scored another second-place finish at the Kentucky Cup and Lexington Driving Classic CAI. In 2010, Whaley kicked the season off with by finish-

Whaley traveled to Europe again, gaining valuable experience and earning a fifth-place finish in the Saumur CAIP-2. She began her 2011 competition year at Sunshine State, finishing in third in the Advanced Pair Pony division. Whaley scored a second-place finish at Live Oak in the FEI Pair Pony division.

In 2012, Whaley transitioned to the Pony Team division and was rewarded with the Reserve Champion title in the USEF National Combined Driving Pony Team Championship at the Kentucky Classic CDE. Whaley began 2013 with a second-place finish at Little Everglades CAI in the FEI Pony Team division. She finished third at Live Oak and in the USEF National Combined Driving Pony Team Championship at the Southern Pines CDE. Whaley then traveled to the Minden, Germany to compete in the CAIP-B. A solid performance throughout the competition, highlighted by a third-place finish in the cones phase, garnered Whaley a tenth-place finish. In addition to competing in combined and pleasure driving, Whaley has a business, Hats by Katie, making hats for drivers.

Ed Young

Born: November 15, 1947 Residence: Geneseo, N.J. Chef d’Equipe Ed Young is a retired teacher of mathematics for “at risk” students. Now that he has retired from teaching, most of his time is spent with some aspect of equestrian sport. His experiences include officiating as a Technical Delegate, scoring, organizing, competing and volunteering. He also assumes the position of show manager for the Walnut Hill Driving Competition in Pittsford, NY, as well as the Florida Carriage and Horse Festival in Weirsdale, FL. Young holds credentials as a Technical Delegate for combined driving with the FEI, USEF, and the American Driving Society (ADS). Additionally, he is carded as a Pleasure Driving Technical Delegate with both the USEF and the ADS. Young has served as the Chef d’Equipe for the U.S. Four-In-Hand Driving teams in 2006, 2008, 2010, and 2012 and Chef d’Equipe for the U.S. Singles Driving Team in 2008. He presently serves as vice-chairman of the USEF’s International High Performance Committee for Driving, is a member of the USEF’s Technical Committee for Driving and sits on the boards of the Pittsford Carriage Association and the Gladstone Equestrian Association.

Elizabeth Staller Born: November 7, 1966 Residence: Bedminster, N.J. Team Leader Elizabeth “Lizzy” Staller has been involved in equestrian sports since the age of 10 when she began riding with Sally Graburn. Although her chosen sport was eventing, all of Graburn’s students were taught to drive a pony. After completing school, Staller rode and trained with noted Canadian eventer, Lorraine Laframboise. An equine radiology and endoscopy technician, Staller worked at the University of Pennsylvania’s Large Animal School of Veterinary Medicine New Bolton Center in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. After moving to New Jersey in 1992, Staller spent several years with well known Four-in-Hand driver James Fairclough and had a formal introduction to driving. She was taken with the sport and helped Fairclough with his team, grooming horses, assisting at vet checks, and riding on the carriage. She went to many combined driving events in the U.S. with the Fairclough team, and in 1996 assisted him at the World Championships in Waregem, Belgium. Staller worked at the USET Foundation in 2004, fundraising for the Olympics in Greece. In the spring of 2009 she joined the USEF as the Director of High Performance Driving Disciplines. With her husband, Bill Denney, Staller keeps a home in Philadelphia as well as in Bedminster, New Jersey. Staller and Bill have three children between them, Andrew, Will, and Sophia. 2013 FEI Pony World Driving Championships
