AAT and its member organizations – America’s Car Museum, the RPM Foundation, and America On Wheels Museum – and with our active Club Auto and Concours Club programs s are ensuring that the automobiles of our past will be preserved for public enjoyment; that enthusiasts will continue to have the opportunity to enjoy the driven car; and that young people are provided educational opportunities for meaningful careers in automotive restoration and preservation. Our mission has always embraced others who seek collaboration rather than competition. In that regard I’m proud of our formal affiliations with The NB Center for American Automotive Heritage, The Gilmore Car Museum, The Great Race, and collaborations with other museums across the country. While we celebrate, we’re mindful that there is so much more that we can accomplish given adequate resources. Each year the generosity of our Wheels & Heels sponsors and donors has made a significant contribution to our success. This was especially true during the pandemic when closures significantly reduced our revenues. As we seek to regain our momentum, we ask that you generously support this year’s Gala and hope that in doing so you have an enjoyable and memorable evening.

With our sincere thanks to Title Sponsor Titus-Will Ford, Presenting Sponsor State Farm, and all our sponsors. And, of course, enjoy our signature gala fireworks brought to us by PNC Bank! Join the movement. David L. Madeira, Vice Chairman America’s Automotive Trust 5

Tonight is a celebration of our success in establishing America’s Car Museum among the most important automotive museums in the world. It is also a celebration of the formation of America’s Automotive Trust, which has become nationally recognized for its efforts to promote America’s automotive heritage.

It is my honor to welcome you to our annual Wheels & Heels Gala celebrating the 10th anniversary of LeMay — America’s Car Museum. I do so on behalf of the Board of Directors of America’s Automotive Trust.

He is Founder of Revs Institute, recently named America’s #1 car museum by Road & Track. But this not-for-profit institution is no ordinary museum. It houses over 100 rare and unique automobiles that meet rigid standards for historical significance. Among these are the cars of Miles Collier Collections, which is widely considered, as The Key magazine put it, “one of the most refined car collections in the world.”

is widely recognized for his thoughtleadership on the history and significance of the automobile. From years spent racing vintage cars like the E Production Porsche Speedster and receiving plaudits such as the inaugural Sportscar Vintage Racing Association Driver of the Year award, to spending what he calls many “grubby-fingered” hours fixing and restoring historical automobiles, he has spent a lifetime developing a deep appreciation for what he considers “one of the most important technological artifacts of the 20th century.”

It has one of the world’s greatest collections of automotive resources, with an extensive archive and library. In November, Revs Institute will host the joint conference of the World Forum for Motor Museums and the National Association of Automobile Museums.

The book represents the culmination of a life’s work for Miles C. Collier and the launch of an undertaking to encourage the study and preservation of these important cultural artifacts for generations to come.

This is all in service of Collier’s mission to advance the study and celebration of the automobile: past, present, and future—to foster a new level of understanding of the car, not only as a technological device, but also as an agent for social and economic change, worthy to be considered among the masterpieces of human creativity. In fact, this is the basis of his new book: The Archaeological Automobile: Understanding and Living with Historical Automobiles. Filled with engaging stories and practical examples, the book combines scholarship, anecdote, and experience to provide wholly new and important insights on why we should all be archaeologists now.

Master Collector Award BRUCE WANTA Bruce Wanta was born in Milwaukee, WI, and moved to the Seattle area with his family when he was 10 years old. He gained an interest in all things mechanical selling, repairing, and setting up bicycles in the shop his father owned. Bruce has always liked anything with wheels, and at age 15, he was particularly inspired by an issue of Road & Track magazine with a Maserati Bora on the cover. From that moment on, he knew he wanted to collect cars.

Bruce graduated with a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Michigan, and went on to build his company, Spectrum Controls, which develops and sells industrial controls.

Today, Bruce has about 35 cars and the best way to describe the collection is: Eclectic. Several of his vintage cars have what were considered high-performance characteristics in their day. He has everything from pre-war vehicles to modern supercars, including some novelty automobiles such as a 1926 Ford “Black Widow” Model T roadster pickup that was first issued as a toy model which he built as a young man. Bruce’s introduction to the builder of the Black Widow, Troy Ladd of Hollywood Hot Rods, began an ongoing partnership along with concept designer Eric Black for additional car projects. One of the more notable vehicles in Bruce’s collection is the 1936 Packard known as the “Mulholland Speedster.” Ladd and his crew completed the build of Black’s unique design in January 2017 where the car won America’s Most Beautiful Roadster (AMBR) at the Grand National Roadster Show. Shortly after that it won World’s Most Beautiful Custom. No car in history has ever won both of those awards. It has gone on to win numerous awards including “Best of Show” at Concours. In addition to impeccable and unique cars, Bruce also collects extremely rare antiquarian books, various memorabilia spanning sports to Hollywood film items to air and space, and a variety of historic artifacts.

“I have always loved cars, especially customs, prototypes and coach-built cars,” Dore said.

“Initially I took on my own projects out of the love and desire to create and modify my own automotive visions. These early projects, like my ’57 Buick Lavender Persuasion and my ’53 Buick Breathless really took on lives of their own and were incredibly well received. They showed me there could be more to this work and passion, that I could be creative, push things further and explore my ways to enhance these cars given to us by Detroit.”

Rick Dore, originally from New York, has been at the forefront of the custom car scene since the early 1990s.

One Seattle-based hot rod writer declares, “Rick Dore has a restless and inventive spirit. He reaches out and goes where nobody has ever gone before.”

“My cars have to have great lines, styling and elegance, but most of all, they have to have attitude.”

Master Craftsman Award RICK DORE

A member of numerous automotive halls of fame, Dore’s one-of-a-kind creations are regularly featured on the covers of Hot Rod, Street Rodder, Rodder’s Journal, Custom Rodder, and Rod & Custom Magazine. An uncanny eye for style and a flair for the dramatic have made Dore a top choice for high-end custom car aficionados.

Rick Dore customs are highly sought after at auction, and a toy line has been modeled after several of his designs. As Metallica’s James Hetfield puts it, “When it comes to building a Kustom car, Rick Dore is in a league of his own.”

Raise the Paddle

Throughout American history since before the turn of the 20th century, cars have connected us to the most essential and best things in life. America’s Automotive Trust is focused on securing the culture of automotive heritage for our future generations. Our museums, including LeMay — America’s Car Museum (celebrating 10 years in 2022), and America On Wheels, are premier destinations where visitors from around the world can experience stunning collections and rotating exhibits of cars and automotive memorabilia as works of art, and where individuals and families can find a variety of related fun and educational experiences. Car enthusiasts and clubs also gather here for signature events. The RPM Foundation is where the primary focus is driving the future. Vocations of vintage artisan craftsmanship are becoming endangered, so through RPM the knowledge of automotive restoration, preservation, and design is cultivated and shared though apprenticeships, internships, and scholarships. Donor contributions are vital to help fund these grant opportunities to ensure the critical skills necessary to preserve and restore vintage collector vehicles are not lost. AAT’s premium membership levels provide additional robust programs. Club Auto is focused on why we love cars by providing camaraderie around driving experiences and unique events. Cars are meant to be driven! Concours Club features international travel, annual summits to shape future of the organization and its outreach, and other activities designed to secure America’s automotive heritage. Established members of Concours Club are recognized permanently as leaders of AAT’s philanthropic support. We believe in preserving the passion for cars and fueling the drive. That’s why America’s Automotive Trust exists. We invite you to drive with us and support our cause today.

Cole Hauser is best known for his roles in films like Yellowstone, Dazed and Confused, Good Will Hunting, 2 Fast 2 Furious, The Break-Up, A Good Day to Die Hard, and Tigerland and nominated for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Male. The winner will take home a hat signed by Cole Hauser and a 10 Year Bottle of “RIP” or Pappy Van Winkle sampler. The iconic 1955 Cadillac Coupe Deville was introduced in 1949 as part of Cadillac’s Series 62 line as a luxury two-door coupe, and it was Cadillac’s first pillarless hardtop. The Coupe Deville set records for Cadillac in sales and is one of Cadillac’s longest and most successful production models. Customizers have long coveted the 1955 Cadillac Coupe Deville to create works of art. Designed by professional customizer Bob Falleur, with bodywork by Mike McKennett, “Kul Kad” is a tribute to the great tradition of American automotive customizing. The car underwent a complete professional mechanical and cosmetic rebuild finished with a beautiful custom paint color. The car has been chopped by two and one-half inches, and much of the stock Cadillac chrome trim has been removed, creating a sleek and elegant silhouette. The Kul Kad features include an all-leather gray interior with plush BMW bucket seats, a center console stereo with AM/FM cassette and a 12-disc CD changer, electric seat controls, and wool carpet.

1971 Chevrolet Nova Super Sport Coupe

This 1971 example was built in the plant of Willow Run with a six-cylinder engine but is now upgraded throughout. Today the engine is a 383-cid stroker V8 with aluminum heads and headers, estimated to have 450 hp. Backing this monstrous engine is a fivespeed KeislerTremec manual transmission connected to a rebuilt postreaction rear end that is equipped with Sierra heavy duty axles. Although this is not an SS model, it has been fitted with SS trim and wheels. The “custom” 383 badges were reproduced on the front fenders, indicating an engine that was not available for the Nova. The car is equipped with power steering, disc brakes, Vintage Air conditioning, new Sony stereo, and tilt steering column. The car has been finished in blue metallic two-stage paint and the blue vinyl interior has been restored. It is a tribute to the pony car compact and it is fast, really fast!
