Relate to Love with Will & Odette Hooks

Starting Over

As with anything in life, there are times when a person is faced with the possibility of starting over, which may be accompanied by stress. It could be as simple as having to rewrite a term paper from scratch, or rewash a load of cloths because you forgot to change them over to the dryer. It maybe desiring a lifestyle change opting to step out on faith and begin a new career with a constant thought of “What if I don’t succeed?” parading around in your mind; this to is stress. Yet of all the areas of life where starting over can be difficult, none is more difficult and stressful than starting anew in the search for love. Odette: We have been asked many times, how to start anew without the stress of making sure that the same sad mistakes don’t happen again and wanting so much for things to go right. From my vantage point, you have to first look at yourself before you ever move on to the dating scene. When I say that, I mean, take care of you and heal from the last relationship, whether it was dating, engaged or married, there needs to be a healing time. Some like to put a timetable on this. Where it may only take some people a year it may take others years. However, two weeks, a month or two months may not be enough time. You need to get to know yourself all over again!!! Having gone through another chapter within your life, you must see how that fits into who you have become due to the experiences of the last relationship. If you do not take this time you will probably always bring old “baggage” into the new relationship and which is a recipe for disaster. Will: That’s what’s up! At the end of most unsuccessful relationships both individuals rush quickly to covet the sentimental role of victim, hoping that when the dust settles they will be seen as the one mistreated rather then the one mistreating. Rare is it to find a person that will lay full claim to ownership as to why the relationship did not work out. I fully agree with you, there must be time to heal but just as important there must be time to make necessary changes to ones own character flaws, which may be the source of stress and drama within the relationship and possibly have contributed to the breakup. Odette: So true Will… This is where the old baggage comes into the next relationship. I would like to give our audience a real-life example. A very close person in my life, of almost 39 years, had a not so great 8-year marriage. He tried hard to make it work and admitted to Will and myself that he was not perfect and told us why. Long story short they divorced by the end of those eight-years. Immediately looking for love, he met a very wonderful woman and they started dating. It seemed so beautiful at first but things turned sour after about 6 months or so. Every time she was a few minutes late, he questioned her as to what took her so long and was very irritated with her. This was not because he was a controlling person but because his ex-wife cheated often. Now, when he questioned her and showed this irritation she became frightful. Not because he had ever hit her or demeaned her but because she came out of a very abusive marriage. They both never took time to heal from their last relationship or get to rediscover themselves, which in turn ruined what could have been a beautiful and lasting union. Will: The fundamental principle of a relationship is the ability to compromise, when the need to compromise is distant so too is stress, and yet when we are faced with the idea of having to bend on some of the principles that we hold firm to the relationship becomes quite stressful. How do you navigate through the disagreement in such a way as to maintain unity, strength, and core values of the relationship? Thinking that ending one relationship and starting over in a new one will alleviate the stress is a mistake in itself. Halle Berry for example, a beautiful woman indeed, no doubt at least on the exterior. The question becomes, Why can’t a woman of her caliber maintain a lasting relationship? she is a what I call a triple threat. She has brains, body, and bank, and yet I am certain that she has raised the question in her mind of “What is wrong with me?” The common denominator in all of her relationships has been Halle Berry. So again, before a person thinks about starting over they should start with self.

Odette: After a person has healed and taken that “time,” let me be the first to say you still have to work each and every day on the relationship you find yourself a part of in order for it to remotely work. Their will always be something that will happen which will cause stress, just handle it with care and remember you are dealing with a different “you” and the person your in a relationship with is different as well. Will: I could not agree with you more. All stress is not created equal, nor do all people handle stress in the same manor. If you find yourself repeating the same relationship scenario over and over, don’t stress yourself out. Instead take some of your precious time and invest it on yourself. First, cast out the beam from your own eye then you will see clearly to remove the mote from someone else’s eye.

Will and Odette: Relax, have fun and enjoy the one you’re with.

Ladies have you ever had a date with a guy you really liked and had a really challenging time trying to find an outfit to wear for that night? I mean the finer he is the harder it can get for us in trying to make the best selection on an outfit that will leave him breathless! We get so emotional and we want to impress him so much that the perfect outfit could be directly in our face and we could not see it! Ladies have you ever said this: “Girl guess who I’m going out with tonight?” “Girl who?” your girl friend says; “The fine brother from the gym, and I don’t have anything to wear so let’s go shopping!” Ladies I’m telling you to relax I’m here to assist you; if you can’t find anything to wear with your prospect to dinner. 1. First things first men like simple sexy attire! But keep in mind there is a huge difference between “sexy classy” and “sexy tacky” so be careful because first impressions are lasting impressions. You don’t want to come off to sexy because he will try his best to get some ass at the end of the date sense that it is all you are displaying. It’s important not to show all of your goodies but you want to let him know what you are working with a package. 2. Understand that every outfit is not for every shape; meaning if you are a plus sized woman please don’t squeeze in a size to small! That is a fashion No! No! Instead work with the curves you have and select an outfit that complements your curves in a classy way! 3. No loud colors please! You will turn him off and you will be the topic of discussion to his boys.

8. Enjoy Life Magazine

4. Do not try to color coordinate with what he is wearing please that is super tacky and you will be reported to the fashion police! 5. Don’t under or over dress; if you get frustrated because you can’t find “the perfect outfit”. 6. Chipped finger nails or toe nails will throw you “OUT” the Fashionista Club! Ladies understand that the dude that you are going crazy may be just as excited as you are about going out, but his wardrobe selections will be simple. So please relax ladies it’s serious but it’s not that serious.

What you will need the following: 1. Sweet Perfume 2. Pedicure and manicure 3. Classy modern hair style 4. Good Attitude Ladies if you are wearing a dress please make sure that it is a perfect cut for your body. What that means is shop your size! Dress the occasions ladies, if you are going bowling on the first date, please don’t wear a tight dress n heels lol. If you are going to dinner: A nice cocktail dress works, or a cute skirt with a sexy top that reveals some cleavage but not too much. Example: hair hanging down parted in the middle, a nice black dress with red lip stick, leopard pumps, a clutch bag and matching pink pedicure and manicure. If you are going out to an outside venue: You have options you can either wear a skirt, or pants or if it’s a sporting event you have the option of wearing shorts, but be mindful of the length of the skirt or shorts. Example: hair in a ponytail, True Religion Skinny Jeans, half silk top, cute accessories and pumps or sandals & Mac lip gloss. BEBE, Betsy Johnson & Cache are great places to find sexy, unique garments for your date. Saks Fifth Ave, Nordstrom’s & Bloomingdales are great department stores if you want to purchase everything in one department store such as, perfume, beauty supplies, hair products, shoes and your outfit. Bloomingdales staffs are very helpful in assisting you in finding the perfect selections; they also have wardrobe stylists available who will personalize your outfit. Lastly understand that your first date is like going to a job interview; especially if it’s a blind date, so be mindful of the selections you choose, but also have fun! We all are unique and have a way of expressing our own individual style. Take my advice, I would not lie “Pinky Promise!”

Fashion and beauty are habitually considered to be in the same category and can often have many varied opinions on its use. Whether the two are truly in the same definition bracket or not, they are characteristic of components that help to achieve a certain appearance. For this spring season there are many new ways to vamp up your wardrobe using some of these useful tips by making minimal changes and taking small fashion risks. Spring colors are often bright and colorful, for those of you that don't prefer a lot of color try to opt for colors that are dark in shade but still have the color element such as deep purples, blues, golden yellow, sienna (dark orange) etc. They will keep you up to date with the current trends but not too much out of your comfort zone. This is also advantageous in the slim-fitting regimen since dark pigments are flattery for minimizing your figure and allows you to wear color without looking frumpy.

10. Enjoy Life Magazine

Some current styles which help hide 'problem' areas are a new trend for the spring season which include the dolman sleeves; dresses and tops made with this style subtly cover arms and busty women so if your 'problem' is in the arms or busts, here is a quick fix. Caftans are also big this season for the woman that wants to 'let it all out,' and they are quite stylish because of the many necklines offered with this style along with the various colors. They fall softly on any body shape and are extremely comfortable to wear for any occasion, whether as a night dress, day-duster, cocktail attire, or even as a throw-over on top of your swim wear. Other popular trends that are 'haute' this spring season are the geometric inspired wear which comes in many shapes literally. They are designed and cut out to accentuate different body parts that are your better assets. The secret to wearing this well is to figure out what your best assets are and wear the geometric print over that part of the body. The patterns can also help to add dimension to your figure if you are not as shapely in some areas.

So whether you are looking to slim down, add dimension, hide problem areas or simply stay up to date with the latest fashions, try using these tips when you get dressed up the next time for the birthday party, wedding occasion, dinner party or day at the beach you are going to because you will be instantly gratified with the results.

Joonie was born in Jacksonvile, North Carolina raised most of his life in Seatle, Washington and presently lives in Los Angeles, California. He began his music mission at the age of nine and started playing the piano, in churches and with different groups in Seatle but mainly in North Carolina. Although he played music, he says he didn't do a lot of singing in church or with groups because he really wasn't interested in being a singer at the time. Joonie said that he just wanted to be the guy behind scences writing and producing music. Well, I'm glad he decided to step-up and show-out because he has a talent that shouldn't be burried. If I could descibe his music with one word I'd call it "Spring". Each song that I listen to is like a breath of fresh air on a Spring day ... just sweet. We need that type of music now days. So how did this Spring Sensation get his big break? Well, long story short, he worked in a music store and he would record his demos in an effort to get his tracks placed. He did all of the singing himself because he said he didn't have anyone else to sing for him. Sooner than later, his opportunity knocked on the door and he was prepared. A friend of his informed him that Warren G would be in town and suggested that he get his tracks to him. And, he did; Joonie was able to get him the material, Warren G liked it and Joonie says the rest was history ... his professional career was launched. When he was with Electra Entertainment he had an opportunity to record a duet with Angie Stone ("Irresitable") and he said it was a good experience working with her. Joonie says working with her was like chill have fun and create; a pressure free experience and although he is very critical of his music he continues to incorporate that relax and enjoy work method with him own formula for a successful session. Joonie went on to say, "I learned a lot from working with her, she was one of the first major artists that I worked with and I learned to be a little light hearted and press- free when creating music. I asked Joonie how does he prepare himself to write a song and where does he pull his inspiration from. He explained to me that he uses different techiniques to write and it really all depends on the theme of the song he's writing. After going on a hyatist from music ... more so the music industry and coming out of the deal that he had at the time; he says he really felt a need to get back to himself and the love of real music. One of the first songs that he wrote while he was rejuvinating himself was "Love You More". In his words he says, "Love You More, is a real strip down type of song, really just guitar and vocals and you know, writing a song like that its a lot different than putting a song on a track. Its a little bit different, it's more of you just sitting with the guitar and making the lyrics dance to the music and it got me back into the flow of creating genuine music again". Now that he's back in the music game with a new label (Wiz Kid Music / Hit Club Entertainment)

Enjoy Life Magazine 17.

Joonie continued ... His independent structure allows him to be more hands on with his career. He envisions himself making records for a long time and he plans to put his hands in the business side of the music business as well. He would like to work with anybody that creates good music and hopes to someday work with artists like John Mayor, Alicia Keys and Janelle Monay. He's eager, ready to create music and take advantage of opportunities as they come his. He said he would never comprise his music style to follow a trend and really believes that he has a style that is unquie and he loves what he does. During our interview Joonie explained, "If it takes off it takes off, I'm still gonna get paid to do what I do because I love what I do. I'm all about experimenting, I'll experiment as long as I can keep the intergirty of my music". As of now he's working on projects on the East coast and this month (February 2011) he'll be in Japan. The album touches on different types of love and Joonie wants everyone to keep hope alive when it comes to finding geniue love ... he says it's out there! Joonie: Thanks for supporting independent music, reach out and I'll reach back! www.jooniezone.com

The Total Package Written by Lakesha Woods What makes a woman or a man the total package? What characteristics make a man feel like she's the one? What lets a woman know that he's Mr. Right? When love is felt in the heart, do you express that feeling to your mate or do you second guess your emotions while checking off the qualifications of your soon to be Mr. or Mrs.? Oh well, she’s the one and he’s Mr. Right are merely clichés in the dating game. They have to be, because eligible men and women continue to remain single and divorce rates remain high. So what happened to that phenomenal feeling that made him or her claim love? Superficial expectations should be the blame. Unreasonable expectations can cause a relationship to end before it really gets started. Why are people so superficial? Whatever happened to those old fashioned teachings? The lessons that helped build character and phrases that suck with you like “don’t judge a book by its cover”. Those good old fashioned teachings get thrown out the window when over achievers pull out their pens jotting down all of the “must haves” for their future mates. Then once the list is narrowed down to a few good qualities instead of a perfect 10, the fizzle between the daters dies down like a flat soda. . Can the poor results of love connections really be blamed on television, music videos and radio? Maybe a finger can point to the large influence of the media. Teenage boys watch gorgeous women on television and listen to women singing sexy songs on the radio. The young boys practically become hypnotized and unconsciously programmed to search for divas when looking for a girlfriend. Today’s young women grow up watching hood boys, drug dealers, college drop outs and school boys turn into rappers and multi-millionaires. Money and power glamorized on television may easily persuade a young lady to believe that the total package is all about image. However, the total package is so much more than looks, money and the pop culture lifestyle. Men and women need to wake up and smell the coffee. Focus on inner qualities, place superficial expectations on the back burner and remember that material things don’t make up the content of a heart.
