Health & Beauty Survey We would love you to be part of the 2012 Weddings.co.nz Health & Beauty Survey that we are running in conjunction with Liz K Body Transformation Studio. With this short survey (it’s only 12 questions!), we aim to understand how New Zealand brides view their body image and any changes that they want to make for their wedding and beyond. We will be releasing the results after the survey is completed and hope that these results will empower our brides by letting them know that there are others who share their views. Also, as a little incentive, we have some great prizes up for grabs for those who complete the survey!

with Kelsey Genna

This month we sat down with the lovely and talented dress designer Kelsey Genna and found out a little about what makes her tick. In last month’s issue of Engaged we were treated to some gorgeous photos of your new collection - tell us a little bit about the collection This was my debut bridal collection. I have been designing and created day-dresses since I was about 16, I always felt my style would be more suited to Bridal … so it is exciting to be making the transition. The collection is strongly inspired by flowers, as is most of my work. Who do you envisage your typical bride to be, or is there no typical Kelsey Genna bride? I mostly just design pieces which I like and would want to wear. It’s lovely though, all the brides I have worked with each have their own individual taste and style … I love seeing my work translated differently each time. How flexible are you with regards to being able to tailor a dress for a bride. Are you able to create bespoke dresses for clients? I am always happy to customise designs slightly so they flatter & suit each bride perfectly. Each year I also take on a small number of Bespoke clients too; I really enjoy creating one-of-a-kind pieces and truly wish I had the time to do more of this.

How long prior to the wedding should a bride allow to get a dress? I think somewhere around 6 months prior to a wedding is a good time to start the process. From the short time I have been working with brides, I have learned that every client is different. Some brides begin looking two years ahead of time, others two months! Do you also have bridesmaid and mother-of-the-bride dresses? Right now my collection is targeted more towards brides. However I am always happy to do bespoke pieces particularly for bridesmaids. I think some of my bridal styles would translate into lovely coloured cocktail pieces. What upcoming trends can you see on the horizon for wedding fashion? I don’t follow bridal trends too closely, but I personally would like to involve colour and prints into my future bridal pieces. For brides, it is often the first time they have shopped for a dress of this style. What do you consider the most important thing for a bride to consider when looking at wedding dresses? I think it is about finding something you truly madly love. But at the same time it is very important to think about comfort, fit and quality.

Angels of Eden Love me Do + Jessica Photography

T

hese dreamy photoshoots were conceived by the creative minds of Eva Nash from Love me Do and Jessica Higueras from Jessica Photography. Love Me Do is wedding blog that showcases wonderful real weddings from around New Zealand. Although Eva falls in love with each wedding that is showcased she decided to create some magic and give her readers some new, fresh and creative inspiration‌ that’s where the themed photoshoot came into play. Eva scrolls through many photographers work every day, and is always inspired by the work of Jessica Higueras, a regular contributor. Jessica has a magical touch and a talent for creating hypnotising work so it was an easy decision to work with Jess on this photoshoot. After the initial brainstorming everything fell into place. Some amazing vendors

came on board including the Little Wolf Catering (whose food was not only a feast for the eyes but also for the belly!), The Vintage Table who has an incredible selection of vintage tableware in immaculate condition, Roses Florist who took the idea of floral crowns to new heights, Trudy Van Zyl who not only transforms everyone with her hair and makeup talent, but is also beautiful herself, Ruth Pretty Florist who provided amazing vintage inspired bouquets and was a dream to work with, Tutta Bella Bridal and Louise Anderson Bridal provided the stunning gowns, Passionata supplied the accessories from a plethora of divine options and Fairytales dressed our cute flowergirl. Karaka Point Vineyard provided our dream location and of course none of this would be possible without our fabulous models, each unique and stunning in their own right.

Angels of Eden Inspired by the whimsical beauty of eden where angels are free to roam. Floral crowns and flowing silk chiffon gowns are juxtaposed with the raw beauty of the wild garden.

Enchanted Garden Inspired by a secret hideaway in the woodlands. The rustic feast was created by LIttle Wolf Catering and magic is created in a clearing.
