Skandika Nimbus 12 Tent There are tents and then there is the Nimbus 12. The tent itself is enormous, fitting 9-12 people with 3 separate sleeping compartments which fits 3 in 2 of the pops and 6 in the larger section. When it first arrived at the GadgetHead HQ it was rather intimidating, at 36.5kg it is certainly a car camping sort of tent, in fact it ended up going in our friend’s van as it didn’t leave much room in our Corsa for camping essentials (like beer). We usually use a 4man pop up tent when we go away, this made the prospect of assembling the Nimbus 12 a daunting one. A few of our friends shared the tent with us so we roped them into helping and

by carefully following the instructions (the poles are helpfully colour coded) the process was really simple. We used the tent at a spacious campsite, at more organised sites I would recommend hiring 2 pitches. Without the rope the tent measures up at 630 x 760 cm (many pitches are approximately 600x600cm). The Skandika Nimbus 12 is totally worth the extra money, the tent is roomy and will protect you from all the elements, with a 5,000mm water column (the highest of any family tent) and fully waterproof sealed seams there was no chance of the summer showers penetrating the exterior and it faired really well on a particularly windy night (a little too well as all

15 campmates bundled in too). At its highest point the Nimbus 12 is 200cm so unless you are a giant you can comfortably stand up with plenty of room for activities. The living area has a detached ground sheet and the wall to the porch can be removed giving you an even larger space (we kept it down to use as a living space but it could easily be left out to store bikes etc.) Overall, the tent provided us with plenty of space and storage, with organiser pockets and hooks coming in handy. Would recommend to large groups or family getaways.

MEDesign Backfriend Back pain is a debilitating issue that many of us suffer on a daily basis. However, by adopting better posture, these pains can be somewhat eased. I myself struggled at the start of the year with lower back pain and it’s a miserable thing to have to endure. The MEDesign Backfriend is an orthopaedic seat, which provides both lumbar and thoracic support. It is designed to be portable, so you can use it at work, at home, in the car and even on public transport. The Backfriend is height adjustable so you can get a fit which best suits, with a padded seat and curved back support the Backfriend is comfortable and accommodating.

The product is also available with a double padded seatbase option ( an extra £4.50), which I recommend if using the Backfriend for long periods of time. Natural fleece covers are also available as an accessory, providing a high level of comfort to those who need a little more pressure relief. I found it particularly effective whilst driving my partner’s car (his seats are quite tired and soft which really plays up my lower back when driving for long periods). Weighing in at only 3.5lbs the Backfriend is lovely and light, coming in a varied selection of colours (8 to be exact). The carry handle at the top makes it

easily transportable. Having said that, due to the stiff curved design the Backfriend doesn’t compact down well making it a bit bulky when carried. After trying it out for a prolonged period I can say for sure that the Backfriend helped with my lower back pain. I immediately noticed the difference once going back to driving without the back support and have even decided to purchase one for my friend (a long sufferer of back pain). Altogether, an impressive product that can improve your posture and eliminate back pain, it is worth every penny. RRP £61.50

The One Z Pillow All new mums will find their own ways to feed their baby. I remember feeding all three of mine propped up on the sofa with cushions around me, just trying to get comfortable. Sleep deprived and anxious, I could never seem to get the same position twice. Enter the One Z Pillow. The One Z is ingenious. It is so simple and effective, you have to question why hasn’t it been designed and marketed before. The pillow is perfect for those who want to breast feed or bottle feed alike. It wraps around you and

www.onezpillow.com

provides you with a great back rest, whilst also supporting your baby in a lovely position for them to lie down and feed. My arms weren’t left dangling, as the One Z also acted as an arm rest. The only problem with the pillow is that my eldest son also finds it really comfortable when he is watching TV, and I have a battle to get it off him a feed times! The pillow comes in a huge array of colours to suit all. It is a really well thought out product - simple and very well executed. RRP $59.99

Tamrac G Elite 32 Bag At the end of 2015 as photographers everywhere worried what would become of the popular Bataflae, Gura Gear and Tamrac consolidated into one brand, establishing the G Elite series. The Tamrac G Elite 32 Bag continues to use the innovative butterfly opening system and is available in two sizes, 26 or 32. We will be taking a closer look at the 32 today, the bigger of the two bags with an interior size of 33 x 51 x 18 cm, so spacious it made my gear look a little insubstantial (two DSLR bodies 4 lenses, tripod, flash and battery pack). Tamrac say that the 32 will actually fit tablets and laptops up to 15” and Lenses up to 18” (35.56 cm) and with such space it’s easy to see how, but it doesn’t stop there. The G Elite 32 is packing more features than my DSLR, starting from the outside it has a stowaway harness with removable waist belt (which converts it nicely into a streamline carry case), a seam-sealed rain fly / ground cloth, fully riveted handles and M.O.L.L.E. compatible attachment points to give you even more options. Colour-coded zipper pulls makes the compartments easy to coordinate

and the main compartment can be locked for extra security. Aside from the main compartment there is also a water bottle pocket, a large pocket to store a laptop or tablet and then on top of that an organiser style mesh compartment for all your accessories. The interior walls inside the main compartment are solid and fully adjustable thanks to the Velcro strips, and that brilliant butterfly opening soon becomes something you really appreciate (especially with a full load) allowing you to quickly and easily gain access to your most important gear. The wide padded shoulder straps coupled with the waist and chest strap means that the G Elite 32 is comfortable even when packed out to full capacity. This bag really seems to have thought of every detail even down to the two colour options, charcoal or olive, neither of which is going to show up dirt and scuffs. The G Elite 32 is (I am going to say) the perfect camera bag, as hard as I tried I couldn’t find fault with it. Yes, the bag is a little expensive but with its versatility and added features the Tamrac G Elite 32 Bag is a must have.

Click ‘N Dig F6 Key Finder My old man is constantly misplacing his stuff: office keys, car keys, jacket, bike lock, and on one afternoon, even his car in Sainsbury’s car park. These incidents result in him transforming from a calm, mild-mannered man into a raging ball of fury in about two seconds flat. Now, there are plenty of Bluetooth trackers out there that work really well, but seeing as my dad still can’t get to grips with his Nokia 3310 (texting is a mystery to him), the app-based trackers were out of the question. The Click ‘N Dig F6 Key Finder is a simple system that links up six items to one remote. It comes with three small, lightweight keyring receivers blue, yellow and red - that link up to the red, yellow and blue buttons on the left-hand side of the Click ‘N Dig remote, and three plastic stick-on receivers in green, purple and pink that link up to the buttons on the right hand side of the remote. You simply attach the keyring or stick-on receivers to your items, then if you

lose the item, you press and hold the corresponding button on the remote. The receiver will then emit a highpitched series of beeps, similar to a smoke detector, at 90dB. This is loud enough for us to hear it 3 rooms away (as long as it isn’t buried under the sofa cushions). The Click ‘N Dig gives you up to an 80ft range. Now, we didn’t measure this, but we tested it out in a terraced house with the receiver in the downstairs front room and pressed the remote in the upstairs front room, which worked, but it didn’t when we pressed the remote in the upstairs back room. However, I don’t see the range as a massive issue, as you will need to be within earshot to locate your item anyway. Within two days of attaching the receivers my dad had managed to misplaced his keys, and after mum reminded him to use the remote AND what colour his car keys were (there is now a list on the pin board) he found them really easily…in his jacket pocket. (Seriously, it’s not even an age

thing - he has always been this bad!) The Click ‘N Dig F6 is ideal for someone like my dad; 99% of the time when he loses something it is at home, so that’s where the remote lives. I was impressed by how well it penetrates sofa cushions, walls and ceilings, and the colour code keeps things really simple (plus the colourful receivers help your items to stand out when you search for them!) Although they feel a little flimsy, they have proved themselves pretty robust - especially as my dad’s keys get thrown about a lot. If I could change anything, I would have made the stick-on receivers a little smaller, as their size limits what you can use them on. I would also have supplied a few more sticky pads in case people need to move them onto other items. All in all, the Click ‘N Dig F6 is a simple and effective system that allows you to find your belongings without relying on an app - a small but powerful ally to the forgetful minded. RRP $39.95

Muc-Off Sprays & Gels Our friends at Muc-Off regularly send us a box of their goodies for us to test and let you guys know what we thought of them. This year, the real issue is where to start with all the gear they sent us! Firstly, a bit of background for those who don’t know Muc-off: they are a leading cycling products company whose aim is to keep you and your toys running at their maximum, and making them look like new again when you’re done! Muc-off have gone from very humble beginnings in 1991 where Rex Trimnell created a pink spray to clean his kit. Fast forward to today, and Muc-off is the go-to brand for top riders and racers from the likes of Team Sky to Atherton Racing. They still make the

legendary pink cleaner, as well as a bundle of other stuff. We were sent their entire range of performance body creams, and I have tried them all. They all offer something different, from warm-up to recovery aiding. I am unsure whether my performance was enhanced or my recovery helped, but they do feel luxurious and most of us will take advantage of any benefit offered. As lots of us take energy drinks/recovery drinks when cycling, it seems a natural progression to use lotions that we put directly onto our bodies. They feel and smell great, and as somebody that suffers with sensitive skin, I found all 4 of these creams to be fine with no adverse reaction.

Luxury Warm Up Cream - RRP£15 The warm up cream is designed for use in temperatures above 27oC and in damp weather conditions. It claims to include an intelligent ‘self thinking’ heating system!

Amino Explosive Power and Amino Ultra Endurance - RRP£24 each Both the Explosive cream and the Ultra Endurance cream give your body sustained explosive power. The Explosive cream increases the availability of oxygen and nutrients to your muscles, whilst the Ultra Endurance is designed to protect them from a buildup of lactic acid. Developed specifically for Endurance athletes, the combination of these creams helps to increase and sustain your energy.

Amino Recovery Balm - RRP£24 The recovery balm helps tired, aching muscle pains after intense sport. Amino Recovery Balm revives, reconditions and freshens your body whilst providing a gentle cooling sensation. The formula should calm, relax and rejuvenate your body to help regeneration and boost energy levels. It does this using Glutamine, which is the most abundant amino acid in the muscle cells.

Luxury Chamois Cream - RRP£20 Chamois cream is a high performance product that naturally reduces the friction of your skin. It is specifically formulated to deeply moisturize your skin for riding comfort and protection, over long distances and in all conditions.

Silicone Shine - RRP£10

This is a really handy little machine that makes a dirty and unpleasant job quick, easy and clean. Top the machine up with the Muc-off Chain Cleaner, attach it to the bike chain and run the chain through it by simply rotating the pedals. The machine catches the dirt and used cleaner fluid, keeping the job simple and tidy. After use, you have a choice of Muc-off lubes to apply to the chain.

Simply spray, wipe and keep everything shiny.

Dry Lube RRP£4, Dry Ceramic RRP£10, Wet Lube RRP£4, Wet Ceramic RRP £10

Two Prong Brush - RRP£6

Dry lube provides the best protection in dry, dusty and damp conditions, whereas wet lube is specifically formulated to excel over long distances in wet or muddy conditions. Ceramic dry or wet lube creates a coating that provides incredible durability and long distance performance on all bicycle chains. All these products will keep your chain in top notch condition and keeps everything nice and quiet.

Micro Fiber Wash Mitt – RRP£10 I have been using these for years and they are a brilliant addition to any cleaning kit. They hold the soap and water and makes cleaning fast and easy.

Sponge – RRP£3 Soft and scratch free.

This is brilliant at getting into places that a flat brush can’t. Mine is used most on my spokes and car alloys

Bike Protect Spray – RRP£10 The spray formula leaves a dry, nonsticky protective film - this is a clear coating that prevents rust and adds an extra protection. Use after washing to drive out excess water

Spray Wax - RRP £7 This is a simple spray that lifts away dust and light blemishes. It is a wax and detailer in one and leaves a protective, high gloss water beading.

Bike Cleaner - RRP£9 upwards on volume Still the best in my opinion and great value for money. I use this on my bikes, motorbikes and cars. Brilliant stuff. Highly cost effective!

Tyre Shine Gel - RRP£2 The gel gives a deep, luxurious shine that can last for weeks. This unique formula is packed with silicon oils which, when shaken, mix together to create a high gloss, wet-look shine. The extra thick viscosity and ultra concentrated gel ensures it will outlast the competition and give your tires maximum protection. Your tires will have never looked or smelled so good!

MO94 Spray - RRP£6 MO94 Spray is as handy as another well know brand in blue and yellow. This stuff is great at freeing up seized parts, disperses moisture to prevent rust and corrosion, provides light lubrication for moving parts, and prevents dirt adhesion. MO-94 isn’t just for bikes, motorcycles or cars; it works on just about anything. Whether you’ve got a squeaky door hinge, a rusty lock or a bolt that you just can’t turn, MO-94 is all you need.

Muc-off has a product for most jobs and you won’t be disappointed. There are cheaper products out there, but they are not the same quality at all. If you go for one of their special bumper packs, there are some really good discounts to be had.

Sprayway Mountain Rainpant Sprayway have been producing practical and technical outdoor clothing since 1974. Formed in Manchester by two outdoor enthusiasts, the brand has gone onto kit out arctic explorers and National Park rangers yet their main focus remains keeping British people dry, warm and comfortable. Sprayway first started working with GORE-TEX in 1983 when they launched the GORE-TEX jacket, since then Sprayway has gone on to make more clothing with GORE-TEX technology, the Sprayway Mountain Rainpant being one. My first impression of the Mountain Rainpant was positive, it didn’t have that cheap feel. The trousers themselves have 3 layers, the outer shell, the soft inner lining and that GORE-TEX layer that’s sandwiched in between, this allows the materials to breath keeping you both comfortable and dry. The waistband is really soft against the skin with a draw cord to keep the trousers in place, the Mountain Rainpant also features a long zip on the outside of each leg (with a protective insert to stop any rain getting in through the zip) which makes putting them on over hiking boots or even snowboarding boots easier. The Velcro ankle adjuster ensures you get the perfect fit and

HD-QHU3/R5

allows you to tighten them up to squeeze them inside a wellington boot. One thing the Mountain Rainpant is missing is pockets, they are also pretty noisy, like walking around in a couple of bin liners, there is no chance of sneaking up on anybody whilst wearing these (just in case that’s something you are into). The Sprayway Mountain Rainpants perform well in bad weather, keeping you dry, cool and comfortable in the heaviest rain. RRP £119.95

Lake CX237 Cycling Shoes Since 1982, Lake has focused on creating functional and comfortable cycling shoes. In fact, before Lake invented a technical mountain biking cycling shoe, they didn’t even exist. Now, Lake have a huge range of cycling shoes for all types of terrain - for this review, we will be looking at the CX237 cycling shoes. Lake make sure there is something for every foot out there - the CX237 are available from EUR size 37 (UK size 4) all the way up to EUR size 50 (UK size 15), in both regular and wide foot options. Let’s break down each section of the CX237, starting with the upper; it is composed of full grain leather

combined with a mesh and leather heel lining, which makes the shoes super-duper snug (that is the technical terminology). In fact, without getting a bespoke shoe made, I think you would be hard-pushed to find a more comfortable fit. Moving from the soft and snug upper, we find the stiff 100% carbon fibre outsole. This high performance sole gives impressive support for highcadence riding, but it may be a little too stiff for more casual riders. The CX237 features a curved profile with increased toe pitch and heel lift, the tighter heel and wider ball girth allowing the foot to expand under high pedalling pressure. It also has

Dual Side Mounted Push/Pull BOA L5 lacing system with releasable lace guides - in layman’s terms this is means you can get an evenly distributed fit without uncomfortable pressure points. The CX237 are an extremely comfortable shoe, provide stiffness in the soles when you need it but with just enough flex to stop your feet turning into a blistering mess. It complements the natural contours of the foot and with a little bit of care, they will provide years of high performance cycling enjoyment. RRP

Falke Windproof Long Tights (3000) Falke was founded in Germany in 1895 by Franz Falke-Rohen. With over a century of experience they now produce a huge range of clothing, from high-end fashion to specialist sportswear. We were happy to get our hands on a pair of Windproof long running tights. At a first look, these already seemed like incredibly well-made tights; the stitching is flawless and the material is strong, with subtle branding on the left thigh. Squeezing into these wasn’t a pretty sight, but once every lump and bump was in the right place they were incredibly comfortable. I have one pair of running tights that dig in around the waistband and I am waiting for the day I burst out the back of them (I don’t know why I haven’t thrown them out yet). There are no such worries with the Falke. The Windproof Long Tights feel supportive in all the right places, and the waistband sits comfortably on the waistline (with a funky neon drawstring to tighten the waist if needed). the ankles have zips to make getting in and out of them easier, as well as providing a little airflow for warmer runs, and the zip itself has a soft material cover when fully zipped up to stop it rubbing on the ankle.

Although the tights feel thick, they breath really well; the 96% polyamide and 4% elastane material feels lovely and soft on the skin, and after a long run in them my legs were dry and a normal colour (rather than bright pink and sweaty, which is my usual postrun look). These tights have a zip pocket in the back but it is very small - you can fit your keys and a small mp3 player in here, but I have an iPod Classic and Samsung S6 and neither would fit in the pocket, which was annoying. There is a little reflective detailing on the front and back of the tights but as they are more of a winter clothing I would have liked to see more for extra safety. As for having L and R on the backs of the legs this seems rather unnecessary, but I would love to meet the person who was so bad at putting on trousers that they needed constant guidance. Overall, the Windproof running tights performed well, were super comfortable and with the polyester overlay on the thighs, they really do keep your leg muscles toasty on cold windy runs, keeping you comfortable from the moment you step out the door to the moment you return. Cardo Scala Rider Q3 The Cardo Scala Rider Q3 multiset intercom is the newer model to take over from the great predecessor, the Q2. I have ridden with the Q2 for 6 months now and I think I would be lost without it. The Q3 in helmet headphones are comfortable, in fact you don’t even know they are there. The system connects to my phone so I can both speak and access my MP3, with an additional 6 built in radio stations. The multiset is particularly great for me on weekends when catching up with friends. In the past we would have to pull over for a chat at certain intervals, however the Q3 allows us to chat whilst riding, at distances of an astounding 1km apart. The Q3 uses the latest version of the

Bluetooth technology, with the system much easier to use than the past models. The buttons are less fiddly and more interactive in thicker winter gloves. It still comes with both the clamp mount and the sticky mount which has always been a very solid feature; so I guess if it ain’t broke‌! The older model could be paired for 3 people but you had to take turns in talking, one on one off. Now you can link up 4 units at once and chat more openly in a conference kind of style. You can also play music via Bluetooth and share with passengers. The intercom has 8 hours talk time, 1 week standby and is water resistant. They are sold in single and dual packs and come really nicely packaged. I know these are not the

cheapest but they do feel a very quality product. New features include the addition of a jack plug socket (so you can fit in your own headset or earbuds) and a neat mic boom with less wiring or a stick on mic provided. You can even connect it to your PC or Mac to keep the information up to date. If you haven’t ridden with this type of technology you should try it, (I wasn’t convinced before I used them and now I love it). The Cardo Scala Rider Q3 multiset intercom certainly makes the riding experience a more engaging one, as you listen to music and chat over the phone. RRP £239.99

Buckshot Pro Outdoor Tech “Always use the correct tool for the job, son, it will make it easier!” This is what my dad would tell me and I have grown up to realize he was right. Too many times I have struggled at home only for him to turn up with the correct tool and be finished in seconds. But still I am rather partial to a multi tool, they have their place in my life. Whenever I go camping I always have my Gerber multi-tool on my belt; as I can’t carry my whole tool box with me. This leads me onto the Buckshot pro portable speaker that came into gadget head. This isn’t just a speaker, it’s also a torch and power bank with a built in USB port and speaker. When you don’t want to carry three units at once, the Buckshot is an exceptional compromise. On the speaker side it is generally very positive. The Buckshot produces big yet coherent sound and wirelessly

connects to almost any Bluetooth device. The device has a play time of 10 hours and a wireless range of 32 feet. Added features include a very compatible torch and a bicycle handlebar mount. The unit is water resistant, rugged and very easy to use. The Powerbank is simple and effective with a USD hole to plug devices into. Coming in an array of colors and with brilliant features, such as the speaker, torch and power unit, I would certainly recommend the Buckshot Pro Outdoor Tech. RRP $79.95
