elcome to the first edition of ENA Conference Connection devoted to the 2013 Annual Conference in Nashville, Tenn. This is where you will find highlights of the exciting educational, networking and career development events we have in store for you Sept. 17-21 in beautiful Music City, USA. The spectacular Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center is where you will learn new knowledge and skills while reconnecting with your ENA family from across the United States and the world. Annual Conference is the premier destination for emergency nurse professionals each year. Hear the most current information in our concurrent and fast-track sessions, practice the newest techniques in our skills labs, be inspired to achieve your goals by our general session speakers and see the latest products in our exhibit hall. Evidence-based educational sessions

in a variety of focus areas — advanced clinical, quality and safety, advanced practice, pediatrics, wellness and research — are the backbone of our Annual Conference. In addition, we will focus on the future of our organization at our General Assembly, which will feature a few creative surprises this year, including an opportunity for state councils and chapters to showcase their decorating talents and ENA pride. The ENA Foundation Event at the Grand Ole Opry is already sold out, but you can follow the show on the live simulcast available on the free Grand Ole Opry app, and there are still plenty of opportunities to support the foundation, including shopping at the consistently fabulous Jewelry Auction. Take time to focus on your career by visiting our Career Wellness booth or attending the Emerging Professionals Speed Networking event. Make time for personal wellness, too, by visiting our Wellness Booth, signing up for a

morning qigong session or the ENA Foundation Wellness Walk. Families encourage one another to achieve their personal best, take pride in members’ success and rely on one another in challenging times. We will celebrate our ENA family’s accomplishments at the Annual Awards Gala and reflect on the importance of family support throughout our career at the Anita Dorr Memorial Luncheon and Lecture. Your ENA family is waiting for you in Nashville. I look forward to seeing you there.

hat began as a simple radio broadcast in 1925 is now a liveentertainment phenomenon. Dedicated to honoring country music’s rich history and dynamic presence, the Grand Ole Opry showcases a mix of country legends and the contemporary chart-toppers who have followed in their footsteps. The Opry, an American icon and Nashville’s No. 1 attraction, is world-famous for creating one-of-a-kind entertainment experiences for audiences of all ages. Two of the performers scheduled for the Sept. 20 show at press time were Kristen Kelly, a new artist who made a name for herself with ‘‘Old-Ex Man,’’ the first single from her 2012 debut album, and Mark Chesnutt, winner of the 1993 Country Music Association Horizon award.

Kelly was named ‘‘an artist to watch in 2012’’ by Country Weekly, while Chesnutt has 14 No. 1 singles, four platinum albums and a long history of entertaining audiences with a mix of nostalgic love songs, country classics and foot-stompin’ honky-tonk. This evening marks a record for the ENA Foundation: 1,200 friends of the foundation are helping to advance the future of emergency nursing by attending the event. A portion of each ticket price is a donation to support the ENA Foundation. Even if you didn’t get your ticket to the event, you can follow the fun by tuning in to the live broadcast with the free Grand Ole Opry app. Listen to Grand Ole Opry and 650-AM WSM live, in addition to accessing several other Opry features.

Practice Your Access Skills at Ultrasound Lecture and Labs U

ltrasound access has been a hot topic at ENA conferences, discussed in concurrent sessions and poster presentations. For the first time, attendees can practice hands-on ultrasound-guided peripheral IV access at multiple offerings. Many patients, both pediatric and adult, often have chronic medical or other conditions that do not allow for the traditional access approach. Ultrasound guided peripheral IV insertion allows for cannulation of veins that are neither visible nor palpable and often eliminates the need for a central line. Participants will become familiar with the principles of ultrasound guided peripheral IV access through a didactic lecture, followed by an opportunity for hands-on experience.

Lecture: 10:15 - 11:30 a.m. Governor’s Ballroom C; 1.25 contact hours.

Attendees may select one of several 30-minute labs after the lecture portion. Participants must attend the lecture portion before attending the lab. Select your lab session when registering. Pre-registration and ticket required; limited capacity; no fee. In-kind support for ultrasound equipment and supplies provided by
