In a small Nigerian town, unbeknown to their parents, four young brothers decide to go to fishing at a forbidden river. They meet a local madman who prophesies that one will kill the other. This chance encounter unleashes a spiral of fear which leads to a tragic chain of events of mythic proportions. Based on the Man Booker shortlisted novel by one of Africa's major new voices, New Perspectives presents this powerful allegory of love, vengeance and fate in a new adaptation by award-winning playwright Gbolahan Obisesan.

This breathtaking show has rock ’n’ rolled audiences across the globe from Cardiff to California, Barking to Bangkok and Swindon to Sweden and is guaranteed to have everyone singing along to the music and dancing in the aisles. It stars some of the finest actor-musicians in the UK whose combined West End credits include Buddy, Lennon, Forbidden Planet and Jailhouse Rock and was endorsed as Britain’s most popular Buddy Holly act when the boys guested on BBC One's Saturday night live programme, “The One and Only”, hosted by Graham Norton.

AUTUMN 2018 / SEPTEMBER PETERBOROUGH OPERATIC AND DRAMATIC SOCIETY PRESENTS

The Very Best of Gilbert & Sullivan & Tell me on a Sunday

The Vicar of Dibley

SAT 22 SEP • MAIN HOUSE

TUE 25 - SAT 29 SEP • STUDIO

Peterborough G&S Players, joined by friends from Abbots Langley G&S, celebrate the music of the most influential English composers in 19th and 20th century Musical Theatre. The programme starts with ageless classics from Sullivan’s many Savoy Operas in collaboration with Gilbert: Pirates, Pinafore, Mikado, Gondoliers, Ruddigore and many others. It continues by commemorating Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 70th year with his shortest masterpiece which contains some of his most enduring songs. This powerful one-woman show is an emotional rollercoaster as a young English girl faces anxiety, frustration and heartache as she seeks success and love in New York.

Adapted from the original TV series by Richard Curtis and Paul Mayhew-Archer, Peterborough Operatic & Dramatic Society present the stage play of The Vicar of Dibley. Following the society’s smash hit musical Dirty Rotten Scoundrels in March, PODS now tell the story of Geraldine Granger who has been appointed the new Vicar in the village of Dibley. However, being a larger than life lady Vicar who doesn’t mince her words and a chest to impress, she isn’t quite what the locals were expecting.

WED 3 OCT • STUDIO

From virtuoso displays of traditional tango dance in stunning costumes to the exquisite sounds of 1930s and 40s Buenos Aires and the powerful Nuevo Tango music of Astor Piazzolla, Tangomotion features new choreographies created for the 2018 tour by world class tango dancers Alexandra Wood, Guillermo Torrens, Paula Duarte and Richard Manuel, with new original music and evergreen tango classics from the acclaimed Tango Siempre quartet. The Tangomotion dancers and musicians have previously appeared in the hit West End show Midnight Tango, BBC Strictly Come Dancing, The One Show, and the Classic Brit Awards.

Ventoux is the most fearsome mountain encountered on the Tour de France. It is also the story of Lance Armstrong and Marco Pantani – whose drug-fuelled race there in 2000 was the greatest cycling had ever seen. Ventoux charts the parallel lives of these champions who overcame great adversity in tandem, and the mountain that cast them in opposing directions. Join 2Magpies as they restage the race using breathtaking video accompaniment and a pair of road bikes, asking the question – how far will we go to succeed?

The Goon Show

Absurd Person Singular

WED 10 OCT • MAIN HOUSE

TUE 9 - SAT 13 OCT • STUDIO

From the producers of the critically acclaimed 50th Anniversary Tour of Round the Horne comes another radio comedy classic live on stage. With its bizarre characters, fantastical plots and hilarious running jokes, The Goon Show captured the imagination of the British public and made household names of its three main stars. The show’s influence is still felt today with comedians like Eddie Izzard citing the show as a major influence. Apollo Theatre Company and Spike Milligan Productions are proud to team up to celebrate Spike’s centenary year by bringing this timeless comedy classic to the stage in the first major theatrical production of the show in its illustrious history.

Looking forward to Christmas? You may have second thoughts after experiencing the mixed fortunes of the Hopcrofts, Jacksons, and Brewster-Wrights over three consecutive Christmas Eves. SuperDrama Productions return following last year’s successful portrayal of ‘Relatively Speaking’ with another acclaimed comedy from Alan Ayckbourn. The play centres around changes in social status, combining ruthless aspiration and deep-routed complacency, with hilarity and poignancy in equal measure. Profits this year will support Kidney Research UK, based in Lynchwood.
