There is an active chapter of the national honor society in psychology, Psi Chi, with membership available to qualified students, as well as a Psychology Club open to all students interested in psychology. The Department of Psychology offers a Master of Arts in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. Please refer to the Graduate Study section of this Catalog.

he scientific and applied discipline of psychology provides an understanding of the nature and function of behavior in both humans and animals. Psychologists study how people perceive, learn, think, behave, and interact with other people and their environment. Systematic attention is directed to individual differences in personality and ability; how people develop throughout the life cycle; how maladaptive behaviors originate and can be changed; the study of the individual and the work environment; cognitive processing and brain and behavior. The Department of Psychology offers a wide range of courses and provides a faculty that is diverse in theoretical orientation, practical experience, and research interests. Students can obtain a comprehensive foundation in psychological thought and methods by sampling broadly within the department. Individual student goals can be met through opportunities for advanced readings, research projects, field work experiences, contacts with mentors, and collaboration with faculty on research. Majors in psychology who intend to continue their education at the graduate level will receive a thorough preparation. Students may also major in psychology as an adjunct to another interest area, e.g.,

Mission Statement The mission of the Department of Psychology is to prepare students for a range of activities including academic, professional, and personal experiences. A broad academic program and mastery of domains in areas of psychological knowledge and research methodology are required of all students majoring in psychology. Concentrations, minors, endorsements, or single courses in psychology will provide the Elmhurst College student with varying levels of basic psychological knowledge and methodology.
