technicalfeatures Salomon boot features Backbone Provides increased power for when skiers are in a rear position while coming out of the turn; gives extra support to the spine of the boot and improves the rebound. Advanced Shell Technology (AST) / World Cup AST AST Spaceframe Shell Profile – the plastic is graduated so it is thickest where most strength is needed, for power and control, and thinnest where comfort is important. The result is a precise, anatomical fit and one of the most sensitive shells on the market. AST 2nd Skin Shell – thin plastics and closer, more anatomical shapes are used. Precision and sensitivity are increased, weight is decreased. Custom Shell The forefoot area of the ski boot is critical to how well the boot fits. Too little space and the metatarsals will be squeezed causing pain, too much space and there’ll be no control over the skis. The right amount will make the boot comfortable as well as precise and sensitive. To achieve this, Salomon use a material called Kaprolene on the panels either side of the forefoot. The plastic shell of the boot is heated and these panels soften
considerably. The foot is placed inside the shell with the inner boot added, as the panels cool they mould to the shape of the foot. Once cooled the Kaprolene panels become as hard as the rest of the boot, just with the customised shape. Salomon Cushioning System (SCS) SCS 3D Shock Absorption – a soft EVA highback is used for cushioning backseat landings. A thick, high density PU foam absorbs shocks under the heel. High density foam in the tongue cushions the shin on big kickers. A massive 55mm strap keeps the tongue close to the leg, reducing ‘shin bang’. SCS Soft Toe Insert – the toe area on the shell uses a flexible, soft plastic to allow for increased deformation, reducing toe bang and improving over-all comfort. Biovent The 1st Skin Mesh on the inside of the liner efficiently extracts moisture from your socks. The Comfort Foam and Custom Fit Foam use micro-perforations to transfer water. A 3D Mesh ventilates the liner using evacuation channels, and the outer layer of the liner insulates against cold. The result? Dryer, warmer, more comfortable feet.
