“Star Wars: Tales of the Empire” (May 4, Limited Series Premiere) The force is with Star Wars fans once again. Lucasfilm’s new animated follow-up series to “Tales of the Jedi” acts as the second installment of the “Tales” series. This six-episode miniseries adventures “into the fearsome Galactic Empire through the eyes of two warriors on divergent paths, set during different eras” (per Disney+).
“Obi-Wan Kenobi” - Season 1 (Available Now)
Set a decade after the events of “Revenge of the Sith” (2005), this miniseries picks up as Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor, “Moulin Rouge!,” 2001) begins his journey to rescue the kidnapped Princess Leia (Vivien Lyra Blair, “The Boogeyman,” 2023) from the Galactic Empire. All the while, he is pursued by vengeful Imperial Inquisitors and his former Padawan, Darth Vader (Hayden Christensen, “Jumper,” 2008).
This FX series explores the surprising and fraught relationship between two women who play a deadly game of truth and lies on the road from Istanbul to Paris and London. One woman (Yumna Marwan, “Little Birds”) has a secret, the other (Elisabeth Moss, “The Handmaid’s Tale”) a mission to reveal it before thousands of lives are lost. In the shadows, mission controllers at the CIA and French DGSE must put differences aside and work together.
“The Idea of You” (May 2)
Based on the novel by Robinne Lee, this rom-com centers on Solène (Anne Hathaway, “Les Misérables”), a 40-year-old single mom. When Solène must step in to chaperone her teenage daughter’s (Ella Rubin, “The Chair”) trip to the Coachella Music Festival at the last minute, she has a chance encounter with 24-year-old Hayes Campbell (Nicholas Galitzine, “Purple Hearts”), the lead singer of August Moon and there is an instant, undeniable spark.
“Ahsoka” - Season 1 (Available Now)
After joining the franchise in Season 2 of “The Mandalorian,” Rosario Dawson (“Rent,” 2005) returns to a galaxy far, far away to reprise her role as Ahsoka Tano in this “Mandalorian” spinoff series. Taking place somewhere after the events of 1983’s “Return of the Jedi,” these episodes serve as a continuation of “Star Wars Rebels,” following Tano, a former Jedi Knight, as she investigates galactic threats following the fall of the Empire.
“The Mandalorian” - Season 1-3 (Available Now)
With a stellar cast and three exciting seasons, this “space western” Star Wars spinoff stars Pedro Pascal (“The Last of Us”) as the titular Mandalorian — a lone bounty hunter traveling the outer reaches of the galaxy, far past the reach of the New Republic. As he journeys from planet to planet, the man must protect a “force-sensitive” child, Grogu, from the Imperial forces hunting them down.
At 13 years old, lifelong best friends Jess (Antonia Gentry, “Ginny & Georgia”) and Hannah (Julia Lester, “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series”) made a pact to have the perfect senior prom. Everything was going according to plan — a perfect theme, a pair of hot dates and outfits to die for — but with only 24 hours to go before the big night, the girls simultaneously break up with their partners and head out on an epic adventure to find some new dates.
“Clarkson’s Farm”Season 3 (May 3, Season Premiere) Diddly Squat farm is facing some seriously daunting challenges. The crops are failing in the severe hot weather, inflation has driven prices of supplies sky high, dreams for the beloved restaurant are dashed and now, the farm shop also faces closure. Jeremy urgently needs to come up with creative new ways of making ends meet.
“Dinosaur” (Available Now)
Directed by Eric Leighton (“Pocahontas,” 1995) and Ralph Zondag (“The Nightmare Before Christmas,” 1993), this family-friendly film melds live-action and animation, following as a lone Iguanodon egg is adopted by a family of prehistoric lemurs, the baby dinosaur soon named Aladar (voiced by D.B. Sweeney, “The Cutting Edge,” 1992).
“The Beekeeper” (Available Now) Jason Statham (“Crank,” 2006) stars as Adam Clay, a wronged man who begins a relentless campaign for vengeance following the death of his neighbor (Phylicia Rashad, “Creed”), who killed herself after being scammed and robbed of over $2 million. Adam contacts The Beekeepers for help — a powerful and clandestine organization of connected operatives that he just so happens to be a part of.
“Fiasco” (April 30) Raphaël Valande (Pierre Niney, “Frantz,” 2016) is revved up and ready to shoot his directorial debut — a tribute to his grandmother — but when things start to go wrong on set, his dream job turns into a nightmare, which leaves Raphaël to wonder if a member of the team is trying to sabotage his career. Created, written and directed by Igor Gotesman (“Two Is a Family,” 2016), this French comedy television series premieres with three episodes.
“Beautiful Rebel”
(May 2)
Based on the life of Gianna Nannini (portrayed by Letizia Toni, “Re Minore,” 2020), this Italian drama follows a fragment of the life of one of the most incisive and renowned voices in Italian music.
It’s a story starting from childhood and the roots of her life and career, up to her consecration, passing through a turning point that cuts Gianna’s life into two parts, so much so that it is considered her true birth: the year 1983.
“High Hopes” (Available Now)
Together, brothers Salva and Mishka Ashbel run one of the oldest cannabis dispensaries in Hollywood: MMD. Their business attracts a nonstop crop of weed-loving customers, but somehow, their always-stoned crew manages to surf the waves of commerce, serving the best green in the area.
“Saltburn” (Available Now)
The latest feature written and directed by “Promising Young Woman” (2020) filmmaker Emerald Fennell, this dark and comedic psychological thriller stars Barry Keoghan (“The Banshees of Inisherin,” 2022) and Jacob Elordi (“Euphoria”). The film follows student Oliver Quick (Keoghan), when he is invited to spend his summer at the home of the charming and aristocratic Felix Catton (Elordi): Saltburn, a gorgeous and expansive estate.
“A Man in Full” (May 2) When Atlanta real estate mogul Charlie Croker (Jeff Daniels, “American Rust”) faces sudden bankruptcy, political and business interests collide as Charlie defends his empire from those attempting to capitalize on his fall from grace. With episodes directed by Regina King (“If Beale Street Could Talk,” 2018).
“Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story” (May 3)
Michigan, 1963. Kellogg’s and Post, sworn cereal rivals, race to create a pastry that will change the face of breakfast forever. A tale of ambition, betrayal, sugar and menacing milkmen, this ultimate Pop-Tart story stars writer/ director Jerry Seinfeld (“Seinfeld”), alongside Melissa McCarthy (“Tammy,” 2014), Jim Gaffigan (“Chappaquiddick,” 2017) and Hugh Grant (“Love Actually,” 2003).

Connery and Cage infiltrate “The Rock”
If Sean Connery could make such a great secret agent, why couldn’t he make an equally fine criminal on the screen? He could, as he proved in “The Rock,” the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced, Michael Bay-directed 1996 action fest that FX is showing Sunday, April 28. Connery plays a famously elusive criminal who’s sprung from prison temporarily to help a bookish FBI agent (Nicolas Cage) thwart a renegade general (Ed Harris) threatening San Francisco with nerve-gas-laden rockets, using Alcatraz as a base of operation. The different styles of Connery and Cage make them a terrific team here, and the casting is first-rate down the line, with John Spencer, William Forsythe and John C. McGinley also in pivotal roles. There’s plenty for the stunt performers to do, too, with a wild car chase through the City by the Bay being a prime example.
This is much in keeping with the sort of brawny entertainment that has been a trademark of Bruckheimer’s career, with Cage as his leading actor multiple times.
“The Taking of Pelham One Two Three” (Turner Classic Movies, Sunday, April 28): Remade later with Denzel Washington and John Travolta, this melodrama doesn’t have such overtly shiny star power in its original 1974 version, but it’s still hugely compelling. Robert Shaw plays the leader of a gang that hijacks a New York subway train, putting a transit cop (Walter Matthau) to the test of trying to save the passengers taken as hostages. Martin Balsam and Hector Elizondo also are in the cast of the film, being shown as part of a tribute to director Joseph Sargent.
