Elizabeth and James Fall 2011 collection seeks inspiration in opposing elementsmasculine and feminine, light and dark, classic and contemporary. Manifest in an eclectic mix of materials, fabrics and silhouettes, each piece is rooted with a modern elegance while channeling retro glamour. A smart, high waist trouser, a bell-sleeved printed dress and a hand crochet pullover are Fall womenswear silhouettes and textures reminiscent of bohemian chic style of 1970šs icons. Blush and taupe infuse the collection with a ready femininity while leather detailing evokes toughness. Fur ponchos, vests, coats and trimmed parkas add a polished, rock-and-roll tinge. Footwear is steeped in disparate elements, seen in the innovative mix of accents and skins. Gold hardware and treaded soles amplify the feeling of steeliness, coupled with high heels and exotic skins. Nordic trim lines the interior of a laced leather bootie, as does plush shearling and rabbit, bringing texture and warmth. Flattering silhouettes create a dramatic line in the shape of lace-up wedge boots, platform pumps, and slick, buckled slip-on flats. Drawing from a tapestry of architecture, geometry, and nature, a bold aesthetic shines in the Fall jewelry collection. Sculptural shapes emote an elegant harmony, as glimpsed in the clean lines of a geometric sterling silver and pavÊ diamond ring and the slight curvature of a silver pendant. Natural elements including antlers, forest foliage and dragonfly wings add texture. Pendants and earrings embrace semi-precious and precious stones in a rich palette of garnet, tsavorite, iolite and sapphire. A directional approach informs Elizabeth and James eyewear, evident in the melding of decade-specific design sensibilities. Eccentric silhouettes lend a vintage authenticity. Playfully edited, exaggerated proportions and subtle molding detail offsets the use of luxe acetate materials in a rich color palette. Lush tortoise in earthy autumnal browns, deep forest greens, and a smoky grey paired with bold green mono lenses evoke a sense of modern elegance while channeling retro glamour.
