Q & A with Philly Junior Tour Members that competed at Augusta National

Q) What was the coolest part about competing at Augusta National? A) “I got to step on a green that all the greats got to step on.” Q) Who did you get to meet while you were there? A) “I got to meet so many neat people like Zach Johnson, Adam Scott, Billy Payne, and Condoleezza Rice. The coolest part was having Billy Horschel wish me good luck before we began.” Q) What did you remember most about that day? A) “One thing I remember most is when Beth Major– a really nice lady from the USGA, came up to me and said that she remembered me from the tryouts because I was the kid that was always smiling.” (This made Josh & his parents feel pretty gratified about his unique attitude toward the game of golf.)

Q) What was the coolest part about competing at Augusta National? A) So many things - being inside the ropes, practicing in the members only range and short game area. Receiving competitor’s lapel pin which says "Player". Seeing my name on the display panels. The coolest moment of all at Augusta National was putting on the 18th green where Adam Scott putted from 15 feet to win the 2013 Masters. Q) Who did you get to meet while you were there? A) At the dinner I got to meet Ex-Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Masters Chairman - Billy Payne, President of PGA - Ted Bishop, Charlie Rymer and Paige Mackenzie from Golf Channel, coach Lou Holtz, Adam Scott and putting guru Dave Stockton. Q) What did you remember most about that day? ×

Tiya Chowdary Philadelphia Jr. Tour Member competes in the Girls 10-11 division of the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals at Augusta National Golf Club on Sunday, April 6, 2014.

A) Privilege to eat lunch in The Founder’s Room, a room built in honor of Bobby Jones. Football Coach Lou Holtz putting his arm around my shoulders and walking me to the putting green reciting his favorite quote that I love - everybody has to have four things in life to be complete - something to do, someone to love, something to hope for, and someone to believe in.

“My eyes shot open just as the alarm clock next to me started to buzz. Unlike most days, I was wide awake with anticipation and nervous energy. Today, the day of the Drive, Chip and Putt competition, could be a good day or a bad day, and it was all in God’s hands.” - Serena Chen
