Tuesday, July 28 The first event of the State College Series took place at the Blue course at Penn State University Golf Course. After some heavy fog in the morning and a slight delay, 18 players navigated their way around the beautiful, yet challenging Blue course. Garrett Leib (Spring Grove, PA) recorded a round of 75 (+3) to capture the win. Leib’s round was aided by a one-under-par front nine. Wednesday, July 29 Mountain View Country Club hosted the second event of the Philly Junior Tour’s State College Series. With its views of Mount Nittany and Tussey Mountain, MVCC proved to be a great host for the final stop of the series. Zachary Fails (Hummelstown, PA) put together a fantastic round, carding a 73 (+2) to collect the victory.

Rule 28. Ball Unplayable What’s it all about? Rule 28 is concerned with any situation on any part of the golf course, with the exception of a water hazard, that a player deems his ball to be unplayable. The player of the golf ball in question is the sole judge as to whether or not it is unplayable. The penalty for proceeding under this rule is one stroke.

Know the Rules
How does it work? The Rule starts by explaining the procedure for proceeding once the ball is declared unplayable. To use the unplayable ball rule, tell your fellow-competitors in stroke play that you declare your ball to be unplayable. The player then may A) Proceed under the stroke and distance provision by playing a ball as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played; or B) Drop a ball behind the point where the ball lay, keeping that point directly between the hole and the spot on which the ball is dropped, with no limit to how far behind that point the ball may be dropped; or C) Drop a ball within two clublengths of the spot where the ball lay, but not nearer the ball. Next, the Rule explains That if the ball is in a bunker, the player may proceed under Clause a, b or c. If he elects to proceed under Clause b or c, a ball must be dropped in the bunker.
If your ball lands in some thick vegetation at Scotland Run Golf Club, you may have to declare that ball unplayable.
Finally, the Rule explains that when proceeding under Rule 28, the player may life and clean his ball or substitute a ball it its place. Rule 28 In Action: John hits his tee shot deep into a canyon. John immediately deems his ball to be unplayable and plays another ball from the tee. John may proceed this way under Rule 28a, using the stroke and distance option. John would now be lying three with his second tee shot. If he was to proceed under 28b or 28c, he must find the original ball because 28b and 28c require referencing where the ball lies. Why is Rule 28 Important? The unplayable ball rule is important because it could possibly save you from accumulating additional strokes when in a trouble situation. If you think your ball is in a position that could be difficult or impossible to advance in a single stroke, the unplayable ball rule allows the player to position his ball in a suitable manner under one stroke penalty. Utilizing the unplayable ball rule rather than trying to pull off a miracle shot and actually taking three or four shots to get back to safety can save a player time, strokes and possible damage to his/her equipment and the golf course. The Philly Junior Tour highly encourages our players to use the unplayable ball rule whenever there is a possibility that a ball may be in such a situation, so remember that this rule is available to you whenever you might need it.
How To Work Out Your Golf Swing at The Gym
The two generic ways one acquires the strength necessary is to go through a golf swing that promises consistent success is: To have hit a lot of golf balls over the years, and unconsciously built-up necessary muscles through constant practice To consistently go through a workout regime that consciously trains the specific muscles needed When you take a look at an avid golfer, particularly one that had golfed throughout their youth, you can automatically tell, from a better-than-average consistency of swing, that the muscles have memory of the swing path that the golfer has taken his body through over the years. For a lot of our lapse golfers and occasional golfers, a swing learned from a lesson series package sticks around in that learned form only for the amount of time the golfer spends physically refreshing the swing. Once there is that long lapse in practice, the learned swing than becomes harder to recall. Muscle memory of said swing had not been repeated enough to have been ingrained or developed. And thus, a great way to help ingrain muscle memory of a swing for both easier recall, and a more consistent swing path, is to consciously work on developing the specific muscles necessary to hold the swing in place at each point on the swing plane. Exercises to build into a work-out routine for Juniors: *(Always begin with a warm up [minimum 10 min] – jog a mile, jumping jacks etc.) Strength Based: 3 sets (10-12 reps) Inclined Push-Ups –
Flexibility Based: Forward Lunges – Side Lunges -
Stability Based: 3 sets (30-60 seconds) Planks –
