An award for photos of the funniest animals

The Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards is a competition. It awards photos of wild animals doing funny things. The idea was created in 2015 by Paul Joynson-Hicks, a nature photographer. One day Paul was working on his photos when suddenly he started laughing like crazy. In the photo taken of a warthog, he realizes that there is also an eagle. In this photo, the eagle is looking at him upside down from behind the warthog’s big behind. Paul understands that a funny animal photo can draw attention to animals and their

endangered habitats. Since 2015, photographers from around the world have participated in this contest. The aim is also to raise money to help some organizations that deal with the protection of animal species.

and see all the photos. Have fun!

A gathering for... vampires!

On May 26, 1897, the Irish writer Bram Stoker published his novel Dracula. In this novel, Bram Stoker weaves the various legends about vampires into the story of a person who really existed: the ferocious prince Vlad III of Walacchia, known as Dracula. The novel is set in London and at Count Dracula’s castle in Transylvania, Romania. This castle in Transylvania really exists--it is Bran Castle. According to legend, Prince Vlad lived there and a lot of tourists visit it. Actually, for

Stoker, it all began in Whitby, a small town on the sea near York, England. Years before, Stoker had a holiday in Whitby. In its small library, Stoker accidentally found a book about “Dracula.” So, among stories of mysterious shipwrecks and the ruins of an old abbey inhabited by bats in Whitby, the idea for the novel was born…

.

To celebrate the 125th anniversary of the release of Dracula, 1,369 vampires gathered in Whitby on May 26, 2022! This gathering (Whitby Dracula Gathering) became a Guinness World Record.

We’re Andrea and Carlos…these are our dogs: Pepito and Alma. We like taking them to the park and going on long walks with them. We really like… all animals! I also have a white rabbit and a green parrot. Carlos has a cat and an aquarium with a lot of goldfish. And what about you? Do you like animals?

Do I look weird?

A bird with a shoe... bill!

This bird is really called that: the shoebill. In fact, its bill looks like a big shoe. It lives in Africa and it is a pond giant. It is 1.50 meters tall and its wing span reaches 2.60 meters. It weighs 7 kg and has a 40 cm large bill. The shoebill is a little bit lazy…it rarely flies and when it fishes, it stands still like a statue. Motionless, it waits to catch fish, frogs, water snakes and small reptiles. Do you like this animal?

Strange crossings

What animal is it? It looks like a zebra but also like a small giraffe…it is an okapi. This animal is not a crossbreed of two animals—it was just born this way! The okapi lives in the tropical forests of Congo and is a herbivore: it only eats leaves and grass. It has a very long black tongue. When it walks, it only moves its right legs and then its left legs.

Which animal do these items refer to? Read and match!

animals:

giraffid - armadillo - zebra - ants - giraffe anteater - hedgehog

body:

claws - shell - tongue - bill - wings –sense of smell

habitat: tropical forest - pond

characteristics: peaceful - lazy - herbavore - giant - kind

And this one? Do you know what animal it is?

It looks like an armadillo and also an anteater. It is a pangolin. Its body is covered in a “shell” and it has long claws. It looks threatening but it is really kind. In fact, when it is attacked by other animals, the pangolin curls into a ball, like a hedgehog. It lives in Asia and Africa. It doesn’t have teeth, doesn’t see or hear well, but it has a good sense of smell to find its favorite food, ants!
