End of Year Exam Y8 - What you need to know Keyboard: Identifying all the notes on the keyboard should be easy by now. Just remember to use ‘dog in the kennel’.

Note Names and Symbols:

You should know the rhythmic names of all the notes & rests (e.g. crotchet, quaver etc.), what they look like and how many beats they are worth

Chords:

What is a chord? What is a triad? Identify the notes of any major or minor triad (remember: Major is find the root, go up 4 ST then go up 3 ST. Minor is find the root, go up 3 ST then go up 4 ST) e.g. E major: Root note - E Go up 4 ST - G# Go up 3 ST - B

Rhythms:

You should know how to write out a four bar rhythm from scratch using notes and rests in a box like the one below. Make sure none of your bars are the same and remember - only 4 beats allowed in each bar. 4 4

Bar Lines:

You should know how to put bar lines into a piece of music

Listening:

You will be asked to write down rhythms just by listening to them (notes will include semi-breve, minim, crotchet, quaver and all the rests). You will need to be able to identify instruments just by listening to them You will need to compare three different versions of a piece of music and describe what is the same and what is different
