Note Names and Symbols:

You should know the rhythmic names of all the notes (e.g. crotchet, quaver etc.), what they look like and how many beats they are worth (including dotted crotchets and triplets).


Bar Lines:

You should know how to put bar lines into a piece of music

Rhythms:

You should know how to write out a four bar rhythm from scratch using notes and rests in a box like the one below. Make sure none of your bars are the same and remember - only 4 beats allowed in each bar. 4 4

Listening: You will need to identify what the differences are between different versions of the same song by listening (e.g. Do they have different instruments? Is one faster than another? Does one include improvisation? etc.) You will be asked to write down rhythms just by listening to them (notes will include semi-breve, minim, crotchet, quaver and all the rests). You will need to be able to identify certain instruments just by listening to them You will need to be able to identify the style of a piece of music by listening (e.g. musical theatre, beat-boxing, big band).
