Important information for your History revision file: Your revision file is your key to exam success. Good preparation throughout the course will save you lots of time when the exams arrive at the end of Year 11. Your exam papers are based around the knowledge you learn, so you need to be able to recall it, but also apply it to answer questions. You must create a revision folder and complete a fact-file for each topic below to add to the notes given in this book. Why was there boycott on the Olympics? 18. Why were Soviet and US missiles used in Europe? A good revision folder has the following: • Use of headings and highlighter pens to identify topics and key points easily. • Answers to practice questions that have been marked (either by you or your teacher) • Mind maps / diagrams / images / sources that you have analysed • Notes - that are highlighted and summarised versions of more detail in your book. You can use small cards with key points on them. You should be able to condense lots of information; this shows a greater understanding of the topic. • Your exercise book is the place where new learning takes place in class and your teacher will mark this regularly to monitor your progress; your revision folder is where you practice, improve and consolidate this learning. • You should use: BBC BITESIZE; BBC HISTORY; SPARTACUS HISTORY; HISTORY ON THE NET; SCHOOL HISTORY; JOHNDCLARE.NET and your textbook to help you create these revision notes. • You can also buy the AQA GCSE Modern World History Revision Guide, by Ben Walsh, which is tailor-made to help you prepare for your exam.
