EDITORIAL Hola lectores: Bueno, ya tenemos aquí el verano y con él todas sus fiestas. La temporada de ferias ya la tenemos encima. La feria de La Línea desde el 15 al 24 de Julio, Casares desde el 4 al 7 de Agosto, Manilva desde el 10 al 14 de Agosto, al igual que San Roque desde el 10 al 14 de Agosto, y finalmente la feria de Málaga desde el 12 al 21 de Agosto. Los amantes de la música también pasarán un buen verano disfrutando de todo tipo de conciertos, dependiendo de gustos y de bolsillo.

Cambiando de tema y no tan agradable, me he dado cuenta recientemente que en la Carretera Nacional 340, en el estrechamiento desde Estepona a San Pedro han puesto una señal de tráfico de velocidad hasta 80 km. De hecho, leyendo otras publicaciones indica que la reducción de este límite de velocidad incluye el tramo estrecho desde Marbella hasta Mijas, y aunque las autoridades

de Mijas parecen creer que son los únicos con esta medida, me gustaría señalar que Manilva lleva con este límite de velocidad durante años.

Tráfico ha señalado que se ha tomado esta medida para disminuir accidentes, pero algunos creen que ésto es para recaudar dinero a través de las multas de conductores despistados (La zona de Manilva parece una zona lucrativa), mientras que otras mentalidades creen que la explicación a ésto es para que se coja la autopista, incrementando el coste a los conductores, especialmente durante el verano cuando las autopistas aumentan su precio una barbaridad. Quizás hagan realidad el tren de la Costa del Sol pronto, pero debido al estado financiero del gobierno, no creo que se termine pronto, pero todavía podemos soñar con ello.

Bueno, lo dejo aquí por este mes, ya que tengo que ir a Marbella con su nueva señal de tráfico y las obras de San Pedro.

Así pues, hasta el mes próximo…

Hello readers, well summer is well and truly upon us and with it the party season. The feria season is in full swing with a number of major fairs in our region over the coming month.

These include La Linea from 15 to 24 July; Casares from 4 to 7 August; Manilva from 10 to 14 August; San Roque’s Royal Fair also from the 10 to 14 August; and finally the big one, Malaga from the 12 to 21 August.

Music lovers are also enjoying a great summer, with a host of concerts to suit all tastes and pockets.

This is particularly encouraging given the number of failed ventures in recent years.

You can find details of many of these concerts on our what’s on pages, on our website or on our Facebook page.

On to less pleasant subjects, I noticed recently whilst out driving on the N340 coast road that the stretch from Estepona to San Pedro has had an 80 kph speed limit imposed on it. In fact reading other publications would indicate that the reduction has been applied along the coast including the Marbella to Mijas stretch, and although the authorities in Mijas seem to think they have been singled

out for special attention I’d like to point out that Manilva has laboured under such a speed restriction for years now.

The traffic authorities have stated that the measure has been introduced to cut accidents, but the cynics believe that it is merely an opportunity to ‘harvest’ substantial fines from unwary motorists (the Manilva stretch certainly proves to be a lucrative source of revenue), whilst another school of thought points to an attempt to push more traffic onto the toll road as a likely explanation, either way it only means increased costs to motorists, especially during the summer when the tolls are hiked up. Perhaps they’ll get their finger out and make the Costa del Sol Railway a reality, but given the state of the country’s finances, I don’t think that’s going to be anytime soon, still we can but dream.

Well I’ll have to leave it there for this month, as I’ve got to nip up to Marbella, and what with the new speed limit and the San Pedro tunnel works I’ll have to leave a little earlier that usual.

El alcalde pide a la APBA que intervenga en La loca historia de la batería en el patio del Palacio El Patio del Palacio de los Gobernadores Este entretenido paseo empieza con Campamento

El alcalde de San Roque, Juan Craso Ruiz Boix, ha solicitado al presidente de la Autoridad Portuaria de la Bahía de Algeciras, Manuel Morón, que la APBA intervenga en la barriada de Campamento, más en concreto en la Finca Russo.

Se trataría, según desveló Ruiz Boix, que la Autoridad Portuaria pusiera en valor la zona de la Rosaleda, en la finca Russo, mediante la construcción de parques infantiles y de mayores, caminos para senderismo y “footing”, etc.

Igualmente se contempla la posibilidad de sacar a concurso público la utilización y explotación del inmueble de la finca La Rosaleda, fundamentalmente para uso relacionado con al Hostelería.

Técnicos municipales y del APBA van a realizar una valoración inicial del proyecto y en breve el presidente de la APBA y el alcalde van a realizar una

acoge mañana martes 19 de julio a partir de las 10 de la noche el espectáculo “Drums: La loca historia de la batería”, a cargo del suizo Gerhard Illi.

El espectáculo se enmarca en el Circuito Andaluz de Música de la Consejería de Cultura de la Junta de Andalucía y constituye unos de los actos culturales paralelos de la 31 edición de los Cursos de Verano de la UCA en San Roque.

Dada la importancia del ritmo en general y de la batería en particular en la música actual, el espectáculo quiere servir de introducción a este mundo particular de la creación musical. La meta no es solamente el conocer las distintas partes que componen una batería sino más bien entender la función precisa que desempeñan en cada estilo dentro de la historia.

Al comienzo del Concierto espectáculo se ven las distintas partes de la batería visita sobre el terreno para presentar repartidas por el escenario y en el la iniciativa y decidir qué tipo de transcurso de la charla se conjuntan intervención se llevaría a cabo. para formar una batería completa.

El alcalde ha agradecido “la positiva actitud de Manuel Morón en su predisposición a colaborar con el Ayuntamiento de San Roque y confiamos en que el proyecto pueda llevarse a la práctica con la colaboración de la APBA”.

El Ayuntamiento adquirió en diciembre de 2002 la antigua Finca de los Russo para destinarla a fines públicos. Consta de tres zonas: por un lado, los jardines de “El Palmeral” con una superficie de 21.509 metros cuadrados; “La Rosaleda” que cuenta con un edificio y una superficie total de 9.317 metros cuadrados; y un edificio cercano con una superficie de 91 metros cuadrados, un palacete de finales del siglo XIX.

Atravesando los años 50 y el descubrimiento de nuevos sonidos gracias al uso de distintas baquetas, mazas y rods llegaremos a los 60 y el Rock. Asistiremos a otro cambio de entender la batería, esta vez luchando por un lugar digno dentro de un grupo de rock. Sin embargo, no podrá este instrumento sustraerse a la influencia de las músicas del mundo, que supuso la ampliación con exóticas percusiones.

The Patio of San Roque’s Palacio de los Gobernadores hosts a performance of “Drums: The Crazy History of the Drumkit” on Tuesday, 19 July from 10 pm.

This spectacular show is performed by Swiss drummer and percussionist Gerhard Illi and is part of the Andalucian Music Circuit programme organised by the Junta de Andalucia’s Ministry of Culture.

Given the importance of rhythm in general and in particular the drumkit in music today, the show provides an introduction into this particular world of musical creation.

The goal is not just knowing the different parts of a drumkit but rather to understand the precise role they play in each style of music.

At the beginning of the concert the different parts of the drumkit are introduced and

during the course of the conversation come together to form a full drumkit This entertaining tour begins with the classical heritage: the caja (box), the bass drum and cymbals, reviewing their role in classical music and military bands and the fundamental techniques of playing the caja. He then discusses the invention of the drumkit, the pedals and the combination of the three original elements into one, which came about through the development of jazz and the emergence of the first drum solos. Learn the development kit that created the classic standard design.

Spanning the 50’s and the discovery of new sounds by using various sticks, mallets and reach rods , and through to the modern day.

Mayor asks Algeciras Bay Port Authority to take action in Campamento The Mayor of San Roque, Juan Craso Ruiz Boix, has asked the president of the Algeciras Bay Port Authority, Manuel Morón, to take action in Campamento, specifically over the matter of the derelict Finca Russo.

This would, said the Mayor, confirm the ABPA’s commitment to the area through the building of children’s play area along with footpaths and recreation areas in the ‘rose garden’.

It is also envisaged that tenders be invited for the refurbishment and use of the building

as a restaurant or something similar.

Technicians from ABPA and San Roque Town Hall will make an initial assessment before decisions are made as to the best use of the site.

San Roque Town Hall acquired the old Finca de los Russo back in 2002 for public use. The property is made up of three zones “The Palm Gardens” with an area of 21.509 square metres; “The Rose Garden” occupying some 9,317 square metres; and the 19th C building with an area of 91 square metres.

La Casa Natal de Blas Infante acoge desde hoy una exposición sobre Palestina

La sala de exposiciones de la Casa Natal de Blas Infante acoge desde hoy, y hasta el 29 de julio, la muestra “Palestina bajo la ocupación”, una serie de fotografías realizadas por Alberto Ruiz-Cortina Sierra.

Esta exposición llega a Casares de la mano de la Organización No Gubernamental Al Quds de Solidaridad con los Pueblos del Mundo Árabe, que obtuvo el premio Casares por Andalucía en los pasados Permio Blas Infante: Casares Solidario.

El proyecto, subvencionado con 5.500 euros, tiene como objeto promover un mayor acercamiento, información y solidaridad de los malagueños y malagueñas sobre la realidad de Palestina y del Mundo Árabe en general.

Junto a la exposición el proyecto de Alquds trae a Casares un concierto de la cantautora portorriqueña Lourdes Pérez y la libanesa May Nasr, y la proyección de la película “La Boda de Rana”.

Concierto El 20 de julio, a las 22.00, tendrá lugar en la Plaza España de Casares un concierto de las artistas May Nasr de Líbano y Lourdes Pérez de Puerto Rico, en la que las dos artistas tocarán conjuntamente.

Antes de la actuación musical se hará una breve introducción a las artistas y a la Asociación Al Quds.

May Nasr y Lourdes Pérez están consideradas, cada una en su país y con océanos y mares de distancia, un icono en sus respectivas tierras, este evento vuelve a unir sus mundos y a ellas mismas.

Ambas comprometidas con el deseo de hacer un mundo mejor a través de sus canciones, sus palabras y su trabajo.

Durante el bombardeo israelí a Líbano en el verano de 2006, May escuchaba una versión de “Unadeekum” (Os llamo a todos) de Ahmad Kabour que Lourdes había grabado. Una canción sobre la capacidad de resistencia a la guerra y la supervivencia, interpretada en árabe y castellano por Lourdes Pérez, las conectó en esos brutales momentos en los que la guerra, siempre injustificada, no parece tener fin. Después de una serie de cartas con propuestas de trabajo común, se vieron por primera vez en Nueva York en 2007, donde se grabó el primero de sus temas conjuntos: la canción de Lourdes “Caminaré” que aparece ya en el primer CD de May “Lil Ghaly”. Las canciones que interpretarán en hoy son del nuevo CD conjunto “escrito en el Agua”, que se presenta por primera vez en nuestro país.

Palestine exhibition at the Casa Natal de Blas Infante The exhibition hall at the Casa Natal de Blas Infante in Casares hosts an exhibition until July 29, entitled “Palestine Under Occupation” a series of photographs by Alberto Ruiz-Cortina Sierra.

The exhibition has been brought to Casares by the ngo Al Quds for Solidarity with Towns of the Arab World, which received the Casares for Andalucia prize in the recent Blas Infante Awards.

The project received a grant of 5,500 euros with the object of promoting closer relations and raising awareness of Malagueños with the reality of Palestine and the Arab World in general.

Along with the exhibition there will be a concert on July 20 at 10 pm in the town’s Plaza España performed by May Nasr

from the Lebanon and from Puerto Rico.

Amigos y Vecinos de Marina de Casares La asociación Amigos y Vecinos de Marina de Casares es un grupo de residentes locales en su mayoría, pero no exclusivamente, de la zona de Casares Costa. El Delegado de Desarrollo Local presentala Semana Etnográfica Diego Díaz, delegado de Desarrollo Local en el Ayuntamiento de Manilva ha presentado la Semana Etnográfica, que se llevará a cabo entre el 28 de agosto y el 4 de septiembre.

El programa consistirá en el desarrollo de actividades, todas ellas relacionadas con el cultivo de la viña, la producción de la uva y el significado que tiene este producto en la historia del municipio.

Por ello, según Díaz, en el Centro de Interpretación Las Viñas en Manilva se realizará un recorrido para los visitantes y curiosos en la materia donde podrán ver la simulación de la vendimia, talleres de pintura, exposición fotográfica,

taller de cerámica o realizar una ruta interactiva de la viña.

Además, podrán participar en una cata de vinos y degustar aperitivos artesanos.

Continuando con la gastronomía, el concurso de repostería caserodoméstica tendrá un requisito imprescindible, que todos los platos tendrán como base la uva.

La culminación de esta Semana Etnográfica, como no podía ser de otra manera, finalizará coincidiendo con la vendimia, una de las principales fiestas de la localidad y que tiene como fundamento la uva y el vino.

Manilva Solicitors RECLAMACIONES A COMPAÑÍAS DE SEGUROS Todos tenemos Pólizas de seguros (hogar, salud, vehículos/coche, de accidentes, etc.) y es común que, tarde o temprano, aparezca una situación que deba ser cubierta por nuestra compañía de seguros; por ejemplo, ocurren unos daños que afectan a nuestro vecino o en un accidente de coche alguien resulta lesionado) o una situación en la que sufrimos unos perjuicios o unos daños que deban ser cubiertos por otra compañía de seguros (por ejemplo, sufrimos un accidente de coche provocado por otro conductor o somos golpeados por una bola cuando estamos jugando al golf).

En algún momento de nuestras vidas parece que tendremos que tratar con compañías de seguros para hacer una reclamación, y es importante saber cómo hacerlo. Aquí hay unos consejos a seguir:

1. Cuando se contrata una póliza de

seguro, siempre conserve un juego original de las condiciones generales y de las condiciones particulares de la póliza, para referencias futuras.

2. Siempre informe a su compañía de seguros sobre una situaciónincidente por teléfono lo antes

posible, y pregunte por el número de referencia del incidente.

Si es posible, siempre tome fotos de la situación el mismo día del accidente/incidente o el día siguiente.

Escriba su propio informe del accidente/situación (fecha, hora, etc.) para futuras referencias.

Siempre guarde todos los documentos originales de la situación (informes médicos, atestados policiales, etc.) y nunca entregue esos originales a su compañía de seguros, solo entregue fotocopias de los mismos.

No deje que el tiempo pase sin ninguna noticia. En el plazo de 3-6 meses desde el momento del accidente/incidente remita una carta a la compañía de seguros mediante correo certificado con acuse de recibo. Mencione en esa carta el número de referencia de su póliza, el del incidente/accidente y la fecha del mismo.

Nunca use la asistencia legal ofrecida por la compañía de seguros. Muchas pólizas de seguros incluyen asistencia y representación legal, pero normalmente no es una representación independiente, por

eso siempre use su propio abogado, ya que no será un coste para usted.

Su empresa de seguros tendrá que pagar posteriormente los honorarios de su propio abogado independiente. Usando su propio abogado estará 100% seguro de que sus intereses y derechos están 100% protegidos y que usted conocerá toda la verdad.

8. Si no recibe una atención o resolución satisfactoria a su caso en el plazo de 6 meses, contacte con un abogado independiente e instrúyalo para que lo represente ante la empresa de seguros y reclame en su nombre.

9. Emprenda acciones legales dentro del plazo de 1 año desde el momento del accidente/incidente. Existe una fecha límite para interponer acciones civiles contra las compañías de seguros de 1 año desde el momento del accidente y en muchas ocasiones las compañías de seguros demoran las actuaciones para que ese tiempo expire y el cliente no tenga derecho a reclamar después.

Desafortunadamente, las empresas de seguros son muy diligentes a la hora de cobrar primas a sus clientes, pero

When an insurance policy is contracted, always keep an original set of the general conditions and the particular conditions of the policy, for future reference.

Always report to your insurance company on any incident a.s.a.p. by phone, and ask for a reference number for the incident.

If possible, you should always try to take photos of the situation on the same day that the incident/accident occurs or at the latest by the following day Write your own statement of accident/ situation (date, hour, etc) for future reference.

Do not allow time to pass by with no progress. Within 3-6 months from the time of accident/incident send a letter to the insurance company by registered post with an acknowledgement of receipt request.

Mention in this letter the reference number of your insurance policy, reference of the incident/accident and date of it.

Never use the legal representation offered by the insurance company.

Many insurance policies include legal assistance and representation, but it is normally not independent representation, so always use your own solicitor, as it will not cost you anything. Your insurance company is obliged to pay the legal fees of your own independent lawyer. By choosing your own solicitor you will be 100% sure that your interests and rights are fully protected and that you are told all of the facts.

If you do not receive a satisfactory result for your case within 6 months, contact an independent solicitor and instruct him to represent you and to claim on your behalf.

Concentración de coches clásicos en Manilva

El pasado día 17 de Julio se llevo a cabo una concentración de vehículos antiguos en el termino municipal de Manilva.

La caravana automovilista de coches clásicos llego a nuestra localidad al filo de las 10,30 de la mañana, para cursar una visita que duro aproximadamente unas 6 horas.

Han empezado con una visita guiada al Castillo de la Duquesa, donde fueron

recibidos por autoridades municipales, entre ellos, el concejal Delegado de Turismo, Emilio López .

Posteriormente la caravana automovilista continúo con su visita por San Luis de Sabinillas, y más tarde desplazo hasta Manilva, con una parada en la calle Mar, para que los vecinos tuvieran la oportunidad de contemplar estas joyas del automovilismo.

Classic Car Rally in Manilva On Sunday July 17, Manilva played host to the Benalmadena Classic Car Club who held their I Manilva Classic Car Rally in the municipality.

The parade of cars arrived at 10.30 am and spent some 6 hours, visiting Castillo, where they were received by the Councillor for Tourism, Emilio Lopez, and were treated to a guided tour of the Castle.

Following this the cavalcade continued

to Sabinillas where the cars paraded through the streets before heading on up to Manilva Town where the were on display to an appreciative public.

The final destination was Puerto de la Duquesa where the cars lined the harbourside allowing enthusiasts the opportunity to have a good look at the cars whilst their owners enjoyed a meal in the Port.

El Ayuntamiento derriba la estructura del carril bici que invade la avenida de El Carmen

El Ayuntamiento de Estepona ha informado de que las brigadas operativas municipales han comenzado los trabajos para demoler la estructura de hormigón del carril bici, que invade una de las vías de circulación de vehículos de la avenida El Carmen.

El proyecto municipal contempla la eliminación de este cerramiento para la colocación de elementos denominados hitos autoenderezables -pivotes que ofrecen la posibilidad de ser plegados - y cebras - pequeños soportes adheridos al pavimento-, que van a permitir mantener el uso de este carril para los ciclistas; al mismo tiempo que va a garantizar que pueda ser usado por vehículos en caso de que las circunstancias de circulación así lo requieran.

En este sentido, el alcalde de Estepona, José María García Urbano, ha explicado que se trata de una “actuación urgente” y una primera fase de un proyecto que pretende dar solución a un “problema de tráfico”; si bien, posteriormente, se

estudiará la posibilidad de redireccionar el trazado del carril bici por otra ubicación alternativa. “Con esta actuación, el equipo de gobierno cumple con un compromiso electoral”, ha asegurado el regidor, que ha criticado durante la visita realizada hoy a los trabajos que se están ejecutando, el “derroche de dinero” que supuso la ejecución de este carril bici.

Los trabajos que llevan a cabo los operarios municipales pretenden acabar con el cerramiento del carril para “evitar la falta de seguridad vial” y los problemas de “colapso” que se producen en esta vía cuando se registra tráfico intenso o cuando se produce un accidente. En este sentido, la concejala del área de Fomento, Infraestructuras y Turismo, Susana Arahuetes, ha recordado que la construcción de la mediana de separación entre el carril bici y la vía de circulación de coches ha ocasionado “serios problemas” viales cuando los vehículos se han quedado averiados en esta zona.

El Ayuntamiento activa una campaña pionera de vigilancia policial en las zonas de mayor afluencia turística para prevenir actos delictivos El Ayuntamiento de Estepona ha puesto en marcha por primera vez una campaña especial de vigilancia y control de las zonas que registran mayor aglomeración de turistas y residentes durante el verano.

El operativo especial de vigilancia pretende reforzar la seguridad en el municipio, prevenir delitos y faltas e incidir en la imagen de Estepona como destino “seguro”.

“Es primordial que quienes nos visitan tenga la sensación de que se encuentran en una zona que está atendida y vigilada por policías”, ha señalado el alcalde de Estepona, José María García Urbano, que ha presentado esta mañana el dispositivo de vigilancia, junto al jefe de la Policía Local de Estepona, Alfredo Torres. “La prioridad en verano es reforzar la atención en las zonas porque son focos en los que se pueden producir más incidentes”, ha agregado el regidor, que ha señalado que los hurtos por descuidos son los delitos más comunes durante la época estival.

Un total de 50 efectivos de Policía Local formarán parte de los grupos operativos que se encargarán de la vigilancia, control y prevención de delitos en las zonas del paseo marítimo, casco histórico, plazas municipales, zonas comerciales y puerto deportivo. Los grupos operativos del 092 estarán reforzados por los policías adscritos a la unidad canina. Todo ello, en coordinación con la Policía Nacional y con miembros del servicio local de Protección Civil, ya que estos últimos forman parte del dispositivo de vigilancia de playas y tienen acceso de “primera mano” a lo que ocurre en el litoral.

El operativo especial, que ya está puesto en marcha, funcionará durante todo el día, hasta que finalice el verano. En total, los agentes de la Policía Local que forman parte de esta campaña de vigilancia realizarán 360 horas diarias de control y prevención. “Queremos que los vecinos estén seguros y también evitar que los pequeños hechos delictivos empañen las vacaciones de quienes nos visitan”, ha añadido el primer edil

esteponero, que ha dejado claro que se seguirán atendiendo la seguridad del resto de zonas del municipio, con especial hincapié en el extrarradio.

Los agentes también velarán por el cumplimiento de las ordenanzas municipales en materia de perros potencialmente peligrosos y venta ambulante; así como el control de la práctica de actividades prohibidas en el paseo marítimo o en la playa.

Control del ‘botellón’ Junto con este dispositivo especial de vigilancia, la Policía Local pondrá en marcha a partir de este fin de semana una campaña de control del ‘botellón’.

Así, los agentes llevarán a cabo un seguimiento especial para hacer cumplir la normativa en materia de consumo de bebidas en la vía pública, su ingesta por menores de 18 años; además de vigilar la venta no autorizada de bebidas alcohólicas.

En este sentido, se sancionará a los que incumplan la ordenanza municipal y la normativa vigente, con la intención de controlar el ‘botellón’, que “en muchos casos y de forma indiscriminada, se lleva a cabo en cualquier lugar, arrastrando situaciones abusivas respecto a la pacífica convivencia ciudadana”, ha señalado el jefe de la Policía Local, que ha añadido que con este campaña de vigilancia se pretende que “no se inculquen los inalienables derechos a la intimidad y a la tranquilidad de los vecinos y visitantes de Estepona”.

Police to step up patrols in areas of tourist activity Estepona’s local authorities have introduced a scheme to increase security in areas of the town most used by tourists. The operation aims to increase surveillance and security, preventing crime and misdemeanours, and thus promoting the image of Estepona as a “safe” destination.

“It is essential that our visitors have a feeling that they are in an area that is monitored and has a strong police presence” said the mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, speaking alongside the local police chief, Alfredo Torres. “The priority in the summer is to concentrate on areas that experience the most crime, particularly theft which is most common in the summer”.

A total of 50 officers will be allocated to this initiative, who will concentrate in such areas as the Paseo Maritimo, Town Centre, and Estepona Port. These officers will be

reinforced by the canine unit, and will work closely with elements of the National Police and loca civil defence units.

“We want residents to be safe and to prevent the minor crimes which so easily spoil people’s holidays and leave them with a bad impression of Estepona” continued the mayor.

The unit will also deal with infractions of local by laws such as those pertaining to dangerous dogs, street vendors and other activities banned on the footpath or beach.

Control of street drinking Along with this initiative the local police have also begun a campaign to control street drinking or ‘botellón’ by strictly enforcing the rules regarding under age drinking and the unauthorised sale of alcohol.

Concluye la unificación de dependencias en el edificio de Puertosol Las brigadas municipales del Ayuntamiento de Estepona han comenzado a ejecutar los trabajos para dotar a la céntrica avenida Juan Carlos I de tres pasos elevados, suprimiendo de esta forma un punto negro de tráfico que ha provocado numerosos accidentes por atropellos.

“Hemos querido ser sensibles a la demanda vecinal que reclamaba la adopción de medidas después del fallecimiento de una vecina y los reiterados accidentes que se producen en la zona”, ha señalado el alcalde de Estepona, José María García Urbano, que ha visitado -junto a la concejala del área de Fomento, Infraestructuras y Turismo, Susana Arahuetes, los trabajos que están llevando a cabo los operarios municipales.

La edil del área ha precisado que se ha optado por esta plataforma elevada para frenar a los vehículos que circulen a una velocidad excesiva en esta vía, “que registra un importante tránsito de circulación”. “Con esto se obliga a los conductores a aminorar su velocidad y

El Ayuntamiento de Estepona ha concluido el traslado de las dependencias municipales que se encontraban en la Casa Consistorial al edificio de Puertosol, donde se ubican la mayoría de los empleados municipales. El alcalde de Estepona, José María García Urbano, ha explicado que “no tenía sentido que la alcaldía y las áreas que de ella dependen estuvieran separadas físicamente de delegaciones tan importantes como Hacienda, Urbanismo o Personal” y ha destacado que de esta forma, consigue estar en “contacto permanente y directo” con los asuntos que marcan la gestión diaria.

El regidor esteponero aseguró además que esta decisión es “un primer paso para cumplir con el compromiso electoral de aunar las dependencias municipales en un edificio unitario”.

Hasta que este proyecto se haga realidad, el Ayuntamiento trabaja en la supresión de dependencias municipales que se encuentran en locales alquilados.

De esta forma, el Ayuntamiento ultima la rescisión de los contratos de arrendamiento de los locales donde se ubican las delegaciones municipales de Participación Ciudadana (que pasará a la planta alta de la Casa Consistorial) y Polígono Industrial (que solo

contaba con dos empleados, que serán reubicados). Ambas instalaciones, suponen a las arcas municipales un coste de 37.200 euros anuales, que se suprimirá “de forma inmediata”.

El regidor esteponero ha insistido en que con esta redistribución de espacios se logra un ahorro de costes municipales y ha dejado claro que no se ocuparán nuevas oficinas en régimen de alquiler en el edificio de Puertosol. “Las brigadas municipales han acondicionado durante estas semanas este recinto para acoger las nuevas áreas”, ha explicado el alcalde. De esta forma, al edificio de Puertosol se suman la Alcaldía, la Secretaría municipal, la asesoría jurídica, parte de la Oficialía Mayor, el Registro de Entrada y el servicio de la Línea 48.

“La contención del gasto es una de las prioridades del nuevo equipo de gobierno, a tenor de la situación en la que están las arcas municipales”, ha agregado el alcalde. El primer edil ha subrayado además que con la unificación de las dependencias municipales se conseguirá también poner en valor el patrimonio municipal y edificios emblemáticos como la Casa Consistorial, que acogerá en el futuro un museo arqueológico con piezas halladas en el municipio.

Town hall departments under one roof Estepona town council has completed the process of moving all the government departments which were previously housed in the Town Hall to the Puertosol Building in Estepona Port.

This is part of a process, which was one of the mayor’s election commitments, to bring the majority of departments together under one roof, thus increasing efficiency and reducing the cost of renting office space.

Among these premises were the Citizen Participation office, with two staff, and the Poligono Industrial, also with two employees, who have both been relocated

The move has been made utilising the existing offices in the Puertosol building, simply by reorganising the layout of the space, and without the necessity of renting more offices.

Works commence on the construction of traffic calming measures at a number of traffic black spots in Avenida Juan Carlos I Town Hall workmen in Estepona have begun works on three elevated road humps at locations in Avenida Juan Carlos I that have seen numerous accidents.

The American Club of the Costa del Sol, Estepona Chapter celebrated 4th of July 2011 - And it was all Red, White and Blue!

It may have been America’s “Big Holiday”, but it was an “International Event” with the Club’s 4th of July 2011 Celebration hosted by Peter of Floria Chiringuito on Aldea Beach in Manilva.

There were 15 nationalities present and the theme of the night was surely “Friends of America” and what we are all so fortunate to share...Freedom. 70 members and guests wore all sorts of combinations of red, white and blue, and along with the decorations, the atmosphere was all American!

Chef Paco had us feasting on an amazing array of BBQ’d pork and chicken, along with the American 4th of July favorites… burgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob, baked potatoes, and every kind of salad imaginable. The wine, beer and tinto de verano flowed and everyone looked pleasingly stuffed!

After the American Anthem, sung by President Joanne Wynne-Hughes, and the traditional American Flag Cake, homemade by members Andree and Frazier Gardella,

Floria lit up a bonfire and the dancing really started. Our entertainment for the night was the one and only VIDAL. Member, Danny Vaughn, got his guitar and joined Vidal for some rock classics and Members, Peta and Mauricio danced a sexy salsa!

It seemed the night would never end and nobody wanted it to!

El veterinario Más de 60.000 aves de 25 especies distintas han cruzado el Estrecho de Gibraltar esta primavera Más de 60.000 aves de 25 especies distintas han cruzado el Estrecho de Gibraltar entre el 1 de febrero y el 5 de junio, según se desprende de los datos recogidos por la Fundación Migres durante el seguimiento de la migración primaveral de las aves planeadoras, una actuación enmarcada en el Programa Migres de la Consejería de Medio Ambiente de la Junta de Andalucía.

Los resultados obtenidos en esta temporada 2011 indican que nueve especies de aves planeadoras dominan la migración prenupcial de este grupo, con más del 99% de los registros: milano negro Milvus migrans, abejero europeo Pernis apivorus, cigüeña blanca Ciconia ciconia, culebrera europea Circaetus gallicus, aguililla calzada Aquila pennata, buitre leonado Gyps fulvus, gavilán común Accipiter nisus, cigüeña negra Ciconia nigra, y alimoche común Neophron pernocterus. En total, se han contabilizado 63.791 aves (35.325 aves en el observatorio de Punta Carnero y 28.466 aves en el de Cazalla) de 25 especies distintas.

El Estrecho de Gibraltar es durante

la primavera uno de los lugares más importantes para la entrada de aves a Europa y el lugar idóneo para el estudio de la migración de numerosos grupos de animales, recuerda la Fundación Migres.

Por su estratégica situación, separa dos continentes y conecta dos grandes masas de agua, el Estrecho funciona como puerta de enlace para muchas especies de aves migratorias.

La inclusión del seguimiento primaveral en el Programa Migres, materializada en 2007, permite estudiar de manera global la evolución de las poblaciones de rapaces y cigüeñas de España y del resto de Europa Occidental, así como realizar un seguimiento a largo plazo del fenómeno migratorio en el Estrecho de Gibraltar y obtener sólidas estimaciones sobre las cifras totales de ejemplares que utilizan este estratégico paso en sus movimientos migratorios, lo que contribuye a garantizar su conservación, destaca la Fundación Migres.

More than 60,000 birds crossed the Straits of Gibraltar this Spring More than 60,000 birds from 25 different species have crossed the Straits of Gibraltar between February 1 and June 5, as noted from the data collected by the Migres Foundation during the spring migration of birds, a study carried out under the auspices of the Ministry of Environment of the Junta de Andalucía.

The Straits of Gibraltar, in the spring, is one

of the most important for the entry of birds into Europe and is the perfect place to study the migration of large groups of animals, according to the Migres Foundation, due to its strategic location between two continents and the connection of two large bodies of water, the Strait acts as a gateway for many species of migratory birds.

The inclusion in spring in the program by Migres materialized in 2007 to study comprehensively the evolution of populations of raptors and storks in Spain and the rest of Western Europe, and to track the long-term migration in the Straits of Gibraltar. To get solid estimates of the total numbers of individuals who use this strategic area, in their migratory patterns, as a means to help to ensure its conservation, highlights the Migres Foundation.

Rotundo éxito de la Primera Fiesta de la Luna Llena En Sabinillas

De rotundo éxito se puede calificar la Fiesta de Luna Llena, que por primera vez se llevo a cabo en nuestro municipio, tanto en participación como en organización.

La fiesta que comenzó a las 21 horas concluyo al filo de la tres de la madrugada y respondió a todas las expectativas de la concejalía y del delegado Emilio López, tanto en el fin como en el ambiente, que en todo momento tuvo música chill out y house .

La Luna Llena no se hizo esperar y a las 21,47 tal y como estaba previsto, apareció majestuosa en el firmamento, haciendo que la noche comenzara de manera espectacular, con el asombro de propios y extraños que maravillados observaban este espectáculo que la naturaleza nos ofrece. La noche acompañó con una suave brisa de levante, que hizo que el evento fuera memorable e inolvidable.

Desde la Delegación de Turismo se dispuso, en mas de 300 metros de playa, sonorización, incontables velas y antorchas, colchones blancos y mobiliario de playa igualmente blanco.

La animación corrió a cargo de un conocido DJ y de un magnifico saxofonista que deleitó con sus solos de saxo. Además de malabaristas,

equilibristas, juegos de fuego, una batucada brasileña, espectáculo de capoeira y de bairarinas de samba.

La delegación de Turismo, siguiendo directrices de López Berenguer, mantuvo apagadas la iluminación del paseo marítimo hasta la 1 de la madrugada, lo que resalto aun más el espectáculo.

La fiesta concluyo con la suelta de mas de 150 globos de luz, suelta que se produjo a las 11 y a las 12 en punto de la noche.

La afluencia de público, fue impresionante, miles de vecinos y visitantes asistieron a esta nueva fiesta que viene a hacer historia en nuestro municipio. Siendo innumerables, las felicitación recibidas tanto por el delegado, Emilio López, como por la responsable de área, Pepi Valenzuela.

El evento fue seguido por varias cadenas de televisión, entre ellas Canal 43 y sobre todo la Cuatro, que con Rafa Méndez, estuvo grabando entre nuestra gente y haciendo entrevistas tanto a la Alcaldesa, como al Delegado de Turismo López Berenguer para un programa de esta cadena que se emitirá la próxima semana.

I Full Moon Festival proves a big success Manilva’s I Full Moon Festival, held in Sabinillas on Friday July 15 proved to be a resounding success, both in attendance and organisation and met all expectations according to Emilio Lopez, Councillor for Tourism.

Starting at 9 pm, and continuing until 3 in the morning there was a great atmosphere, and the weather couldn’t have been better with a gentle easterly breeze keeping the revellers cool.

The beach was lit by hundreds of torches and candles, whilst mattresses and chairs were supplied for the comfort of those wishing to take in the atmosphere, and music provided by the saxophonist and and the DJ. Entertainment was also provided in the form of fire jugglers, Brazilian batucada, capoeira, dancers, and so on. The mood was also enhanced when the lights on the Paseo Maritimo were turned off, with just the torches and candles providing the illumination.

The festival’s finale took place at midnight with the release of some 150 chinese

lanterns which illuminated the sky as the flew over the town.

Thousands of visitors and residents attended this new event, which will be a regular on future summer calendars, with a number of television stations covering the evening’s activities, including Channel 4 celebrity presenter Rafa Mendez, who recorded a number of interviews for his popular programme, ‘Mojate’ which will be broadcast in the near future.

La Noche de San Juan en Sabinillas sigue batiendo record Que la noche de San Juan fuera todo un éxito. Ese era el objetivo que pretendia la delegación de Fiestas del Ayuntamiento de Manilva, cuya concejal es Paqui López.

Para ello se trabajó duro en los preparativos de esta celebración, que congregó en las playas de Sabinillas a cientos vecinos y visitantes.

En cuanto al programa de actividades se desarrolló según lo previsto, interpretación de la banda de música, un ambiente inmejorable y una orquesta que iba abriendo boca para lo que se avecinaba en la madrugada.

Antes de la quema, Juan Oliva, artista local encargado desde hace años de realizar los muñecos de la quema, tuvo un merecidísimo homenaje por parte del equipo de gobierno, quien portó una pancarta en favor de las personas que han sido trasplantadas y que es de vital importancia que la sociedad se conciencie de estas necesidades.

Tras la quema, unos personajes populares en una época troglodita, los presentes

pudieron disfrutar de un fantástico espectáculo de fuegos artificiales.

A continuación, la música ocupó el papel principal de la noche y una orquesta amenizó la velada hasta altas horas de la madrugada.

Con esta actividad se abre el programa de actos del verano en la localidad, que culminará en el mes de septiembre con la vendimia en Manilva.

Destacable fue la presencia de las cámaras de Canal Sur Televisión, quienes hicieron un programa especial sobre la noche de San Juan en Manilva, el cual se emitirá a mediados de julio. La fecha exacta, para que todas las personas interesadas puedan verlo la anunciaremos en los medios de comunicación locales.

Tanto la alcaldesa de Manilva, Antonia Muñoz Vázquez, como la concejala de Fiestas, Paqui López, mostraron su enorme satisfacción por la participación de la gente y porque San Juan, un año más, se convierte en la fiesta más atractiva de toda la Costa del Sol.

Record numbers turn out for this year’s San Juan celebrations This year's San Juan celebrations, held on the night of the 23 June, were once again a huge success, with record numbers of visitors flocking to the beach and Paseo Maritimo in Sabinillas to celebrate midsummer's night.

The evening's programme began with a performance by the Manilva Town Band, after which the Town Council, with the Mayoress, Antonia Muñoz, the Councillor for Fiestas, Paqui Lopez, along with many others paid tribute to Juan Oliva, the local

artist responsible for the 'bonfire' which gets better and more elaborate each year.

At midnight the bonfire was lit, followed by a stunning firework display after which the musical group entertained the partygoers until the early hours of the morning.

Cameras from Canal Sur TV were on hand to record the event, which has become one of the most important San Juan celebrations on the Costa Del SOl, and a programme about the event will be broadcast sometime this month.

Comienzan los trabajos de señalización Se abre el plazo para el pago de edificios y monumentos voluntario del IBI Una de las actuaciones del Plan Qualifica es la señalización de edificios públicos y monumentos en los municipios de la Costa del Sol. En Manilva pueblo ya ha comenzado la primera fase de estos trabajos, según informado el concejal de Promoción e Imagen, Antonio Parra.

Después continuarán, en una segunda fase, en los núcleos urbanos de Sabinillas y el Castillo.

Además de los propios carteles indicativos, los turistas que nos visiten podrán saber donde están a partir de leyendas explicativas de situación.

Además en los monumentos, mediante un atril colocado a la entrada de los mismo, podrán ver una reseña histórica donde se expliquen los datos más destacados del edificio donde nos encontremos.

En breve según el director de área Miguel García, se espera poder comenzar en una segunda fase, la señalización de los núcleos urbanos de Sabinillas y El Castillo.

Works begin to install signage for Manilva’s public buildings and monuments Signage installation for public buildings and monuments in the various municipalities on the Costa del Sol is part of the Junta de Andalucia’s ‘Plan Qualifica’, the regional government’s programme of tourism insfrastructure improvements.

Beginning in Manilva public and historic buildings will be embellished with

plaques, providing information, and where appropriate historical facts about the particular building or monument.

According to Antinio Parra, similar information boards will also be installed at sites in Sabinillas and Castillo in the very near future.

Juventud informa sobre los beneficios del Carnet Joven La concejalía de Juventud informa de los beneficiarios del carnet, el cual se expide para los jóvenes de entre 14 y 30 años,Tiene un precio de 6 € y una vez que se tiene no se tiene que renovar, aunque lo pierdas, se hará una tarjeta nueva totalmente gratuita.

Cabe recordar que el Ayuntamiento de Manilva llegó a un acuerdo con la Junta de Andalucía de ofertar un 25% de descuento a los poseedores del Carnet Joven en materias de Juventud y Deportes, por lo que las actividades deportivas ofrecidas por ésta delegación cuentan con el citado descuento.

Hay empresas del municipio, como Vendaval Sport, Dentista de Manilva y Peluquería Bianca, que ofrecen también un 10% de descuento a los poseedores del carnet en determinados servicios. El carnet tiene valor a nivel europeo, por lo

que empresas de toda Europa realizan descuentos y ofertas, Renfe, por ejemplo tiene un 25% de descuento, y el Ferry de Ceuta ofrecía el verano pasado un 50%.

Informar también, según comentaba el concejal delegado de Juventud, Marcos Ruiz, que recientemente el consistorio ha llegado a acuerdos con el Centro de Buceo ubicado detrás de Mercadona, que hace un 20% de descuento en cursos y alquiler de materiales, y con la empresa “Paisajes aéreos” para volar en parepente con motor un 25% mas barato presentando el carnet joven.

Son muchos los jóvenes que se interesan y solicitan el Carnet Joven cada día, debido al bajo coste del mismo y a las ventajas que tiene.

Youth Department explains the benefits of the Young Person’s Card The Councillor for Youth has issued information regarding the benefits of the Carnet Joven, the Young Person’s Card which is issued to young people between the ages of 14 and 30.

There is a one off charge of €6 after which there is no need to renew.

The card providers the holder with a range of benefits and discounts, including a 25% reduction on the cost of all sporting activities organised by Manilva’s Sports Department.

A number of local companies have also offered discounts such as Vendaval Sport,

Dentista de Manilva and Peluquería Bianca. The card is valid across Europe and companies such as Renfe, the rail travel provider offer holders 25% as does Ceuta Ferry which was giving a 50% last summer.

The Councillor for Youth, Marcos Ruiz, has negociated discounts with the Manilva Dive Centre 20%, and Paisajes Aéreos, who are giving 25% on their paragliding trips.

La delegación municipal de hacienda que dirige Marcos Ruiz, ha informado que el Patronato de Recaudación Provincial de Málaga, abre a partir del 1 de julio, el plazo del pago voluntario del Impuesto de Bienes de Naturaleza Urbana (I.B.I), que estará abierto hasta el próximo 9 de septiembre. A partir de esa fecha se devengarán los recargos correspondientes a la vía ejecutiva.

Ya han sido enviados a los domicilios de los contribuyentes los avisos de pago, con los que podrán abonar el impuesto en cualquier banco o caja de ahorros que figuran como entidades colaboradoras.

IBI payments should now be paid Manilva’s Treasury Department, directed

by Councillor Marcos Ruiz, has announced that the Patronato de Recaudación Provincial de Málaga, the provincial revenue collection agency are now taking the annual IBI (Impuesto de Bienes de Naturaleza Urbana) council tax, with voluntary payments open until September 9 after which homeowners could face fines and interest charges for late payment.

You should receive a payment advice slip which you can take to any of the banks listed on the back to pay your IBI.

If you don’t receive this slip then visit the Patronato office, next to the police station in Manilva and they will supply you with one.

You can also consult the website www. prpmalaga.es, type in your matricula number from an old IBI receipt and select the area you live in ie Manilva Click on the ‘Emitir aviso de pago sin datos personales’ link then ‘Volver a emitir éste mismo aviso de pago. You should then get a copy of what you owe this year.

La solicitud deberá presentarse en la Delegación de Comercio, sita en Plaza Ginebra Nº 2 en Sabinillas, antes del día 1 de agosto, ya que a partir de esa fecha se va a proceder a inspeccionar los distintos comercios del municipio y a tramitar el cobro en vía ejecutiva por parte del Patronato de Recaudación Provincial.

X Encuentro Internacional Durante los días 29, 30, y 31de julio, Manilva se convertirá en visita obligada por la celebración del X Encuentro Internacional, un evento imprescindible ya en nuestro municipio.

El concejal Diego Urieta, responsable de la delegación de Extranjeros residentes del Ayuntamiento de Manilva, informa que se están llevando a cabo todos los preparativos para la realización de dicho evento, el cual se celebrará como en años anteriores a lo largo del paseo marítimo de San Luis de Sabinillas, un escenario único que nos hará disfrutar una vez mas con la representación de una veintena de países.

Se inaugurará el viernes día 29 de julio a las 20:00 horas, con la presencia del equipo de gobierno encabezado por la alcaldesa Antonia Muñoz. A continuación se contará con la actuación de la banda municipal de música y la

escuela municipal de baile flamenco.

Durante la jornada del sábado día 30 de julio comenzarán las actividades a partir de las 11:00 horas hasta las 14:00 horas. En esta ocasión los protagonistas serán los mas pequeños, para ellos se prepararán juegos, talleres infantiles, bailes, etc.

A partir de las 13:00 horas las carpas abrirán sus puertas para que sigamos disfrutando de la diversidad gastronómica y su artesanía. Por la noche, a las 20:00 horas comenzaran las actuaciones previstas representando el folklore de los distintos países.

En la jornada del domingo día 31 de julio, continuarán las actividades deportivas en la arena, las carpas volverán a abrir sus puertas y a partir de las 20:00 horas podremos disfrutar nuevamente de actuaciones representativas de cada país.

X Manilva International Festival Once again Manilva’s international community will be celebrating its diverse cultures and traditions at this year’s X Manilva International Festival.

As last year this edition of this Festival will be held on the Paseo Maritimo in Sabinillas with activities taking place both on the promenade and the beach.

The International Festival is being organised by the Foreign Residents’ Department of Manilva Town Hall in collaboration with local representatives of the various nationalities.

The Festival runs from Friday, 29th until Sunday 31st July with entertainment, music and dancing, and as usual the opportunity to sample the gastronomy, culture and traditions of the many nationalities that comprise Manilva’s cosmopolitan community who will be exhibiting along the promenade.

Visitors will also be able to enjoy flavours from around the world as well as take the opportunity to visit the many bars and restaurants which line Sabinillas’s attractive Paseo Maritimo promenade.

Starting on the Friday night, after the official opening, there will be an extensive programme of entertainment on the main stage situated in the square just in front of the statue on the paseo.

The festival begins at 8 pm on Friday, 29th July with an official inauguration ceremony by the local authorities, headed

by Mayoress Antonia Muñoz, after which the extensive programme of music and dance begins.

On Saturday morning there will be children’s fun and entertainment from 11 am to 2 pm. From 1 pm the individual tents will open for business, giving visitors the opportunity to sample the cusine of the various nationalities participating.

From 8 pm the entertainment programme continues on the main stage.

On Sunday, 31st the tents open once again at 1 pm with the entertainment continuing at 8 pm.

Pedro Centeno ganador del concurso del cartel anunciador de la Décima Edición del Encuentro Internacional

El vecino Pedro Centeno Peña, ganaba el concurso organizado por la Delegación de Extranjeros, del cartel anunciador de la décima edición del encuentro internacional.

Su trabajo recoge una composición que representa los colores y banderas del mundo, y sobre este fondo, se pueden ver siluetas de personas, que se unen en el centro, como símbolo de integración

de las diferentes razas.

La entrega del premio, consistente en 150 euros, tenía lugar en el monumento del Castillo de la Duquesa, y contó con la presencia de autoridades municipales, como la alcaldesa de Manilva, Antonia Muñoz, el concejal de Extranjeros, Diego Urieta, y demás miembros del equipo de gobierno.

Winning poster selected for International Festival Pedro Centeno Peña won first prize in the recent competition to design a poster for this month’s 10th International Festival.

His poster combines the various colours found on the flags of the world, along with human figures united at the centre of the poster, representing the diverse nationalities and culture integrated in one

municipality.

At a prizegiving ceremony held at the Castle in Castillo, Pedro received his prize, which was a cheque for 150 euros, which was presented by the Mayoress, Antonia Muñoz, and the Councillor for Foreigners, Diego Urieta.

I Liga de Voley Playa en las playas de Sabinillas y Casares Estamos en verano, época en la que se desarrollan las actividades deportivas propias de la estación. Una de las más destacadas es el voley playa, que se puede practicar en el municipio. Precisamente, los Ayuntamientos de Manilva y Casares han organizado una competición de este deporte, que se celebrará del 17 al 31 de julio.

La playa de Sabinillas, situada en la zona más conocida como El Cali, y la de Marina de Casares, acogerán del 17 al 31 de julio la primera edición de la liga de Voley Playa.

Las personas que quieran participar en esta competición

han de saber que el plazo de inscripción finaliza el jueves 14. Las delegaciones de Juventud y Deportes de los Ayuntamientos de Manilva y Casares han establecido para este torneo tres categorías: masculina, femenina y mixta.

En esta actividad deportiva colaboran también establecimientos de ambas poblaciones.

Mario Jiménez, edil de Deportes en Manilva anima a toda la población a participar en esta actividad.

I Beach Volleyball League to be contested on the beaches of Sabinillas and Casares Now that summer is here the local authorities are organising sporting events suited to this season, one of which is beach volleyball, which is popular in the municipality. The Sports Departments of both Manilva and Casares are collaborating to organise a beach volleyball league which will be contested from 17 to 31 July.

The pitches are located on the beach in front of the statue in Sabinillas, and on the beach at Marina de Casares.

There are three categories: Men’s, Women’s, and Mixed and spectators are more than welcome.

La Peña Flamenca El Indio celebrará su I aniversario La peña flamenca cultural “El Indio”, celebra su primer aniversario con la organización de un espectáculo que tendrá lugar el 29 de julio a partir de las nueve de la noche en el pabellón municipal de Manilva.

De esta manera, está prevista la actuación de Montse Cortés, a quien le acompañarán músicos de Chambao.

Al teclado estará Toni Romero; a la percusión, Juanito Heredia; a la guitarra, Paco Heredia; al bajo, Juan Soto, a la guitarra eléctrica, Ramón Barranquero; y al baile,

cajón y palmas, Juanma y Santiago. El espectáculo contará con la colaboración especial de la academia de baile Cristina Seguín.

Following her first very successful month as a solo exhibitor, Sheila Mary Thompson is joined by two more local artists from the 15th July until the 14th August for a combined exhibition at the Estepona Port Business and Internet Centre. Regina Stall was born in Berlin and became the third generation artist in her family producing stunning semi-abstract, abstract works in acrylic. Debra Coleman (BA (Hons), MA) completed a degree course in History of Art

that involved examining and researching paintings and works of art. She enjoys experimenting with form and colour using both watercolours and acrylics and is an accomplished photographer.

Sheila, Regina and Deborah invite all who wish to attend to their inauguration from 5 pm until 7 pm on Friday 15th July when visitors can enjoy a glass of wine, a tapas, meet the artists and see their work.

10 medallas para los deportistas del Club Internacional de Esgrima en los Campeonatos de Andalucía El pasado mes se realizaron los Campeonatos de Andalucía de Esgrima en Almería con muy buenos resultados

para los espadistas del Club.

En menores de 20 años Cristina Ocaña consiguió ser campeona de la categoría imponiéndose a todas sus rivales y culminando una temporada repleta de éxitos siendo primera en el ranking andaluz M-17 y M-20 y 4ª en el absoluto.

En categoría absoluta María Maldonado revalidó su bronce del año anterior y el equipo formado por Rosibel Vindel, María Maldonado, Cristina Ocaña y Yasmina Zidane

consiguieron la medalla de plata por equipos para el Club de Esgrima de Estepona.

Alberto Zerrada subió de nuevo al podio para recoger una muy trabajada medalla de bronce, tras un intenso asalto con el ganador de la competición Sergio Baldrés, componente del equipo nacional y seleccionado para la próxima Universiada en China como representante español. Gracias a estos grandes resultados tanto Mª Maldonado

como A. Zerrada finalizan terceros del ranking andaluz de la máxima categoría.

También fue bronce el equipo masculino de espada compuesto por Auke Kamstra, Paul Holder y Alberto Zerrada.

Con estos resultados termina la temporada de esgrima en la que el Club de Esgrima ha aumentado su palmares y sus tiradores han adquirido grandes éxitos tanto autonómicos como nacionales.

Alberto Zerrado was on the podium with a bronze after an intense battle with the competition winner, Sergio Baldrés, this put him third in the Andalucia rankings.

Cuando asome el alba yo vendré a buscarte. ¡A buscarte solo! ¡No! Un astro, que se escapó anoche, quiere acompañarme.

¿Cuáles son las excelencias y las pequeñeces que tiene el verano? Por ejemplo, es buena una lectura de estrellas en el cielo, contemplar a la amada y ver como penetra la luz sobre un verso de carne y el alma enamorada. Y las uvas, oh, las uvas, en Agosto, aquí en Manilva, la viña que se hace fuente de racimos en las cepas... Insignificancias, hay muchas, pero es mejor evitar el golpe de calor contemplando las salamanquesas correr por las paredes de la fachada, y conversar despacio sobre el invierno amarillo y blanco que pasó; y, el otoño que vendrá, sabrá de ese verano que a propósito agota entre besos sus labios, el beso niño, el beso joven, el beso de los ancianos, bogando sus historias por la playa y el cuarto; la habitación se hace insoportable, pues el calor nos cansa, es mejor ir a la terraza y tomar alguna copa, un dialogo que refresque. Bondades del verano: una rosa, la noche, la renovación de la adolescencia, la feria, balada de anfitriones del mar, el paraíso de una noria y su cielo de color, los amigos que vienen a veranear... Lo blanco y lo

negro, el calor y el frío, el mar y la tierra. Fácil Easy Pero el verano también tiene su muerte y su muerto y su recuerdo, y quiero estar con los que sufren esa pérdida, invitarlos a la alegría del verano, porque ellos se fueron a otras playas de la luz; lo sé, es difícil bañarse en esa playa ahora en carne y hueso, tan desnudo, tan solo, tan dolorido, cuando las llagas del cuerpo hacen que la sal del mar escuezan, requemen hasta el alma. Pero el verano llega, aquí mi pueblo tiene un propósito, tiene la mar una lencería de racimos y plata, tiene mi corazón una tristeza, pero también una esperanza por los sueños de Dios; tiene el verano una travesía, un porche de rocío, y frente al Nivel Medio Medium mar un edificio resistente con un pórtico con fustes decorados de peces: sardinas, boquerones, jureles, besugos..., tiene el verano un castillo junto a la playa, un museo marítimo donde la imaginación juega y compite entre regatas de sal.

Picnic ideas

During the summer at best our workouts are about body maintenance and not about personal best’s or drastic body shape changes.

This month’s workout is an alternative to hot sweaty gyms or boring runs-we are looking at aqua aerobics. This type of exercise is suitable for most bodies, it’s low impact, cooling and great for a cardio vascular workout, it also works some of the larger muscle groups. You can do this work out daily, add it to an existing swim workout or have fun with it and include friends so it becomes a mini-aqua games.

I suggest you use floats, I use the woggle type, I find them more versatile.

Do each exercise for approx 1 minute or 1 length of your pool.

1, Hold the float with 2 hands, arms straight out in front, keep your legs together and kick both legs furiously, make as much splash as possible, great butt/legs heart workout.

This month I’m looking at picnic ideas whether you are on the beach, in the pine forest, or relaxing on your terrace.

I’ve chosen a selection of recipes from my favourite recipe website: www.epicurious.com so you look up anything that appeals. Try to up the nutritional ante of your picnic by choosing wholegrain versions with generous vegetable portions. When feasible, favour ‘open’ sandwiches with one slice of bread rather than two. Enjoy!

Resident and entitled to inheritance tax reductions. Think again

Dispose of your old car without paying fees

There is a lot of talk recently about the rules regulating inheritance taxes being abolished in the province of Andalusia.

These discussions are an echo of the stories and articles that have been circulating for years. Yes there is the possibility that the regional government will abolish this tax altogether, at least for resident and resident heirs. Until such a time all property owners should make sure that they have covered all eventualities to lessen the burden of this tax. Some expatriates are under the illusion that as they hold residency they will automatically qualify for the attractive reductions available. This is not the case. There are some further important factors to consider.

Are you aware of these requirements?

Anyone in possession of an estate or other assets should make provisions now.

A Spanish will is important but I believe this is now a known fact. . You must meet the full criteria to be eligible. One is that you are registered on the census in a town in this region (this document needs to be kept up to date. Equally as important that you abide by the law and make your annual tax declarations? Non compliance will allow the authorities to consider you to be a nonresident. The outcome of this will mean that your heirs will have to pay higher taxes. The ruling will be in compliance with the Law of Spain.

If you are advised to add your nonresident inheritors to your title deeds to avoid part of these future taxes on your death, Study the implications of taking this option. The expense of this exercise will probably outweigh the total costs of the duties payable. If you do choose this route you will again have to pay the full taxes, notary and registry fees. If you are considering purchasing a property, then yes it is worth adding your heirs as the cost will not increase and you costs will be the same as a normal acquisition, approximately ten percent of the value of the property.

Vehicles that have passed their sell by date or are either unsaleable or need to be scrapped, require you to go through a procedure that will involve costs. Cars left in your name will still be accumulating annual taxes. These charges remain your responsibility as will any damages or fines incurred. Many owners of these automobiles, who do not know the laws, abandon the vehicle, give it away or pay a garage or gestor to deal with the matter.

There is a simpler way with nil expenditure.

Go to your nearest local police station with all your and the vehicle’s documentation, tell the police that you wish to scrap the vehicle. Sign the documents. They will willingly accommodate you and even send a breakdown truck to pick up your car if it is not mobile.

Over the last couple of months or so the market has been preoccupied with Greece, unusually for this time of the year its not holiday bookings or resorts they have been talking about but how is Greece going to repay its debt. As we know the good citizens of Greece have also taken to the streets protesting against all of the measures the Government have had to consider implementing to reduce its debt and their concern of course is how it will hit their pockets so not really an unnatural reaction. Like many of the countries who were the last to enter the Eurozone the funds they received certainly helped the feel good factor and the governments “closed eyes” approach made things seem very rosy but the gravy train had to stop at sometime which is one of the reasons why we are seeing the situation as it is now.

So what has been happening to fix the problem? Of late the Greek parliament finally had to agree a series of measures to increase taxes, cut public spending, privatise assets and provide redundancy to many public sector employees, these measures had enabled the Finance Ministers within the Eurozone to release a further 12 billion euros to cover current “expenses” and hopefully avoid a default on the government backed bonds.

With all the issues you would have expected the euro to become a weaker currency however until recently this was not the case, support had come from the Chinese who propped up Spanish banks and have said of late that “fundamentally the eurozone is strong” and continued to invest in the Euro. By doing so they were getting a higher return as interest rates within the Eurozone are higher than the USA and the UK, where both countries have said that to increase interest rates would be a huge problem to the recovery of their economies so whilst both the US and the UK are maintaining this stance expect the Chinese to continue investing in the Eurozone and maintain a level of strength for the euro. But what did we see last Friday, well speculators were busy selling the shares of Italian banks. Their argument was – and is – Italy is on the same slippery slope as Greece, Ireland, Portugal and Spain. For those expatriates who have recently arrived or taken on a new contract for a telephone for your home need to be aware of the following information. When you make the agreement for this service, you must always ask for which offers are available.

Over the recent years there has been an opportunity to obtain the connection and router free. This will only be the case if you insist on the offer. In most cases you will be assured by the commercial department that they will honour your request. Wait for the first bill. Do not be surprised to find that you are charged what the invoice will list as ‘occasional concepts’ when questioned the staff will admit that this relates to charges for the connection and the router also promised without costs if you have contracted the internet. You can reclaim this amount. Be insistent and they will refund the extra monies paid.

Obtaining free health care for your family It is surprising how many breadwinners in the family who pay social security, are not aware that this payment includes all their dependents. To obtain this service, do not go directly to your health centre and expect to register you family with a doctor. You should to go to your nearest social security office first. Take all the necessary documents. These will include Passport and residence permits for all family members. For the children if you have one, ‘Lbro de familia’ Proof of you having registered on the social security system, your padron which must include all the family members. They may ask for further documentation. Look at this visit as positive because the outcome will be.

what has happened with Greece and do not want to fall twice into the same hole. Lets see, the country’s biggest bank, UniCredit, lost a fifth of its value last week, 8% of it on Friday alone. So we did see the euro being a slightly out of favour currency and fall against both the dollar and the pound.

Now its not just the eurozone that has its fair share of bad news, in the UK we have recently heard that retail sales were down and people are not spending. The most recent figures for the Services Sector (which covers restaurants, hotels etc) had shown some very disappointing statistics, link this to the closures of many High Street household names, the Bank of England saying that mortgage repossession’s are likely to increase then you have a lack of confidence in the recovery path the UK is taking, although we all know this is a longer term commitment to stability and economic growth rather than a short term stop gap .

But not so long ago we saw the pound at a low of €1.107 compared to the highs of just a month ago of 1.152 which was a loss of around 4.4 cents a massive difference for all our budgets, great of course if you were sending funds back to the UK. But with those fears mentioned above, together with an increasing likelihood that the EU will have to concede to a default by Greece, weighed on the euro on Friday. It lost a cent and a half against the US Dollar and is down at least that much against the Pound. We now see ourselves at the time of writing this with a range around the 1.133 which is still a great if you need to be sending your funds aboard. The only Euroland statistics that might have helped it (but didn’t) were Germany’s trade and current account surpluses, which came out in line with analysts’ forecasts.
