Figure 3: Mean high high water (MHHW) plus 5 and 7.5 feet in Boston. Had Hurricane Sandy hit during high tide, Boston may have experienced flooding similar to the MHHW plus 5 feet scenario. With two and a half feet of sea-level rise, which may occur by midto late- century, Hurricane Sandy at high tide could produce flooding similar to the MHHW plus 7.5 feet. Under this scenario, the Charles River Dam is over topped, flooding much of the Back Bay.
