Maine Interpreters and Translators Practice Course About the Service: The Maine Interpreters and Translators Practice Course is a two-year post-baccalaureate certificate program designed to prepare students for careers as professional interpreters and translators in Maine. It is intended for individuals who already have a bachelor's degree or equivalent, but do not need an advanced degree in order to pursue these professions. The course is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to work as interpreters or translators in a variety of settings: courts, hospitals, schools, business meetings and other community events such as town hall meetings and public hearings. The program consists of two semesters of courses taught by faculty members from UMaine's School of Languages, Literatures & Cultures and the School of Law. Students must complete a minimum of 30 credits (15 in each semester) to earn the certificate.
