Physical Therapist Assistant Programs Physical therapy assistant programs are offered at community colleges, technical schools and universities across the country. These programs can be completed in less than one year or over two years depending on the program's length and requirements for graduation. Physical therapy assistant programs provide students with hands-on training that allows them to apply their knowledge about human anatomy, physiology and exercise science to real-world situations involving patients who have been medically diagnosed with physical impairments or disabilities due to illness or injury. Physical therapy assistants work under the supervision of licensed physical therapists (PTs) who have earned bachelor's degrees or master's degrees from accredited institutions of higher education
