Will Matt Damon move to Byron Bay? Why be concerned with Elsa Pataky’s personal life? The only difference between the mainstream media’s obsession with celebrity non-news is that in Australia it circles counterclockwise down the drain while in the northern hemisphere it circles clockwise. Q Q Q Q While Byron Shire residents eagerly await the announcement of a new Council general manager (GM), Lismore City are also on the lookout for a replacement GM after Gary Murphy’s resignation and appointment elsewhere. While Murphy left the post with a budget shortfall of almost $2 million, Lismore mayor Isaac Smith (Labor) commended his GM on his ‘valuable contribution to the organisation and the community,’ and highlighted council becoming a nationally recognised leader in waste management and recycling. Q Q Q Q Proving again that Byron Shire is a very engaged community, council staff say the response to the NSW government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund was ‘astounding.’ 34 projects from community groups were submitted, which included shared cycleways, improvements to halls and clubs and the refurbishment of sports facilities such as tennis courts. Council say successful projects will be announced between September and November 2018. Q Q Q Q With almost all of the 17 north coast hospitals severing their contracts with locally based milk producer Norco in favour of a company that sends its profits to Japan, it puts the spotlight on government priorities. Putting local jobs/ industry first surely seems

Seeker Keeper Lover is the new photographic exhibition by locally based, award-winning photojournalist Natalie Grono. Grono says the exhibit explores the outward manifestations and identity of the northern rivers tribe, through its various protests, rituals and events. The exhibition opens May 26 in the new Lismore Regional Gallery and runs until June 24. Photo of V-Day by Natalie Grono

logical, considering it also reduces food miles and circulates profits within the community. Slowly departing Lismore MP Thomas George (Nationals) reckons all this milking is a done deal, but says he will still lobby the health minister to change the tender process for the future. Ineffective representation is a problem for the Nats, who originally stood firm with farmers (protectionism) before adopting the idiocy of largely unregulated vulture capitalism (free market). Q Q Q Q Remember all the whining from coal-funded federal coalition politicians that South Australia’s energy reliance on renewables was a basket case? According to RenewEconomy’s Sophie Vorath and Giles Parkinson, the state’s Tesla big battery, the only type of its kind in the world, ‘has already taken 55 per cent share in the state’s frequency and ancillary services market, and lowered prices in that market by 90 per cent.’ Q Q Q Q Want a dose of politics, with a beer? The New Politics in the Pub at Mullum’s Courthouse

Hotel will feature activists James Whelan and Dr Gregory Smith on May 23. The ‘Arc of Justice’ event aims to ‘bend our world towards justice, peace and sustain-

ability.’ It’s better than the alternative, right? Martin Luther King Jr said, ‘The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.’
