Disabled surfers seek volunteers this weekend

Close to 100 people entered the superstar obstacle course and many more came as spectators to the fundraising day organised by the Wollongbar Public School last Saturday. The multi-event obstacle course was set up with assistance from Edge Fitness Alstonville and included burpees, an army crawl and a team sprint, and finished off with a burst of colour to run through! There were also roadblocks set up throughout the course challenging participants with fun puzzles to complete before they could proceed to the next obstacle. The Curtis family was a highlight, P&C secretary Maureen Bezanson said. ‘Glen Curtis competes in all sorts of tough, muddertype competitions but said he

The dream is not over yet for Byron Bay’s Soli Bailey and Lennox Head’s Adam Melling in their bid to qualify for the newly announced 2018 Dream Tour. But with only one event left on the Qualifying Series they will need a win at Sunset Beach to have any chance to finish in the top 10 and qualify. Lennox Head’s Stuart Kennedy is in a similar position, needing a win at the final Championship Tour at Pipeline to sneak into the top 22 and qualify. Kennedy also has a chance at the Sunset Beach QS event to qualify through the QS rankings if he wins or is runner-up. The opportunity is still there for our local area to have a representative on the Championship Tour in 2018, just.

Tour changes The World Surf League has released the 2018 schedule of events covering the men’s and women’s Championship Tours (CT), Qualifying Series (QS), Pro Junior

and Longboard tours as well as the WSL Big Wave Tour (BWT). ‘The 2018 calendar has some of the most significant changes we have implemented in many years,’ Byron Bay’s Kieren Perrow, the WSL commissioner, said. Some of the major changes are: no Fiji event, no Trestles event (it will be replaced with the first-ever artificial wave event at Surf Ranch), the women will get a Jeffreys Bay event, the Championship Tour will be returning to Keramas, Bali, and there will be no women’s event in Portugal.
