With all the brouhaha over sharks no-one has given much thought to marauding mozzies. Now biologist Dr Mary Gardner has done so on page 15, giving the rundown on all the different species in the ’hood and how to deter them. She also tells us there is a citizen-based mosquito monitoring system called Abuzz at http://bit.ly/mozzbuzz. Somewhat like Shark Watch but instead of sending up drones one records their buzzes on a mobile phone, as each species has its own unique sounds. The northern rivers is a great area for growing the crop (obviously) and the food products offer lots in the way of nutrition.
