artis t FESTIVAL OF THE IMAGINATION IN FOCUS

On Saturday 27 August, Ocean Shores Public School will have its annual fundraising event The Festival of the Imagination. The festival is a vibrant day showcasing creative workshops, family activities, rides, artisan market stalls, entertainment and student performances, wetland tours, raffle, great coffee and fantastic food, in the beautiful grounds of Ocean Shores Public School.

Join us to meet locals and get familiar with artistic expressions in Ocean Shores and the Byron Shire. For more details: http://bit.ly/FOTI_Posts.

The event is a celebration of community and creativity. It is a great occasion to meet and engage with the local community, particularly families and children, while participating in artistic activities. This festival is run in conjunction with the Ocean Shores Arts Expo. The festival is an important fundraiser and moneys raised will subsidise arts and music enrichment opportunities for Ocean Shores students and purchase new school equipment to support these programs. Rides on the day include a super-slide, train castle, rick climbing and pony rides. Among artistic activities are face painting, tie dye (bring your own white cotton item), cupcake decoration, Hair of the Imagination, origami, craft stall, photo booth and the Creat-Athon – family challenge.

GET YOUR CREATIVE ON Creative Base is a workshop space and textile studio created by local artist Carla Dawes. Located in the Byron Bay Arts and Industry Estate, it is a contemporary, light and airy workshop and studio space dedicated to our creative community. It brings arts and crafts people together to share their curiosity, passion and skill. In the coming months we are offering workshops including Benchtop Photography – Flatlay Fundamentals, Intro to Screen Printing, Make Your Own Chunky European-style Linen Bag and a wonderful Intro to Ceramics. We also invite artists to get in touch about teaching their own creative workshops. For more information on our current workshops contact Carla on 0438 470 230, visit www.creativebase.com.au, or follow us on @creativebasebyronbay.

LIGHTBODY 8 is a community dance celebration in its fifth year. Electro dance music with high-energy funk and breakbeats. Ambient and uplifting melodic soundscapes and psychotropic grooves. Two dance floors including a tipi share sets between DJ Nick Taylor, Magu, Slinky, Asaf and Short Circuit. Full-scale visual projections and installations by Zakay Glass, Coda Installations, Tone Wonderland and Crystal Grid Productions. All of the senses will be uplifted into a high-energy and visually beautiful wonderland. Enjoy the warmth from the open bonfire and feast on healthy and delicious catering by Deli Dosa. Sip on a turmeric chai or gorge on other delights. Gluten-free and vegan options available. This is a community event that proudly recognises and hosts well known talent from local community members. We encourage everyone to come early to fully embrace the entire night – as Durrumbul closes at midnight!
