Backlash Calling all trombonists (they need 75 more, ho ho). The Mullum Music Street Brass band has been rehearsing for the Sunday festival street parade. If you live in Mullum you might have heard them rehearsing on a Tuesday night. This year it seems saxes are the cool instrument, and the band is short of trombones, trumpets, tubas, euphoniums, baritones, french horns, cornets, clarinets. If you are keen, or know of musicians who would like to join in the fun, rehearsals continue at Station Street Studios, corner of Station and Mill streets 5.30 to 6.30pm each Tuesday until the festival. The parade is always a highlight of the Mullum Music Festival and takes place on Sunday November 22 at 11am, kicking off at the Council Chambers. Q Q Q Q

And an early heads-up for the premiere of Sharon Shostak’s new doco: Mullumbimby’s Madness will screen at 7.30pm on December 3 at the Civic Centre. Commissioned by the Brunswick Valley Historical Society, the film depicts the wave of young settlers who came to Mullum and the valleys, reviving the town before, during and after the Aquarius Festival 42 years ago. Sharon’s deft touch with archival footage was shown in her Echo Doco a couple of years ago, and this new work promises to be just as fascinating.
