Gitta Radau is one of the many talented locals who over the years have called the northern rivers home. There’s something in the human psyche that genuinely responds to fine craft and objects of skill. Gitta, while looking for a new expression to vent her creative aspirations, ended up in Thailand. It was a number of random events that led her to a small village in the north of Thailand and a number of weeks of oneon-one tutoring from a Thai master carver. Initially, she studied the culinary art of fruit and vegetable carving, traditionally known in Thailand as the ancient art of Kae Sa Luk or Intaglio. Back home in the Byron Shire, Gitta is carving a niche for herself in carved fruit and vegetables and is enjoying some popularity with requests to create handcrafted and inspired centrepieces for special events, weddings, corporate functions and restaurants. The survey was conducted among 9,850 Australians in September this year and, 42 per cent stated they would want to go on a holiday with the Wolverine star and his wife. I’m guessing going on holiday with any of these couples would mean having a zoom lens in your privates along with candid photos ending up in The Echo (or some other celebrity rag) – and unless you’re famous, few people want their private bits snapped.
