Forget it being the game they play in Heaven. For the momentous year of 2014, rugby is going to be the game they play in the Bay. Rugby in Byron Bay will see a new coach, new players, junior teams, new uniforms and a new committee, promising a year

of excitement for the former one-team club. Last year was a stellar performance from the 2012 Presidents Cup Champions, as they challenged the stronger clubs of the Far North Coast Rugby Union premier division finishing third on the

Shores United Soccer Club Juniors & Seniors Calling past, present and new players to come and be a part of our exciting club. Last year was a real success and a lot of fun. Our Under 13 Junior 2nd Division side became undefeated grand final champions. Shores United look to field three senior teams in 2014. The club has gone to great lengths to secure the services of Brian Hedge, who will manage our top level first division men’s team.

first-grade ladder. With many of the players continuing on into the 2014 year, a new committee has banded together to support the growth that is emerging through the club. Byron Bay will introduce multi-premiershipwinning coach Paul Jeffrey into the mix. Along with him, AJ Gilbert and his family migrate from the southern city to join forces with the players this year. AJ’s resume includes stints with the Queensland Reds, NSW Waratahs, and Melbourne Rebels, as well as Australian representation at the Under-19 and Rugby 7s level. Paul and AJ’s commitment to the club will also have a major focus on the Junior level. 2014 will see the in-

troduction of numerous junior teams, ranging from as young as five years, playing a modified version of the rugby rules. A Come and Try Rugby program operated throughout the 2013 season to prep young players for the season to come. More junior players are encouraged, with signon days beginning Saturday 1 February, 9–11am. Registration will also be available the following Saturday (8th), with a final registration on Saturday 15 February, that will incorporate a skills clinic, run by Paul and AJ. The Club is fortunate that many local businesses are coming on board with sponsorship, reducing the cost to parents for the child’s first season with The Bay. The Senior portion of the club has already begun pre-season training, which will continue Tuesdays and Thursdays each week from 6pm at the Recreation Grounds in town. The Senior season kicks off Saturday 5 April. Senior registration can also be made on the dates above, but further details can be found on the new revamped website – www.byronbayrugby.com.au. All registration and training details can be found on the site, as well as contact details for both the junior club and the senior club. In the words of the many supporters that the club generated over the past couple of entertaining seasons – Go The Bay!
