FINAL SALE

REDUCTIONS

Many of Byron Designworks’ regular customers have been thrilled with the bargains they have picked up during the recent Summer Sale. That sale is now over but there are still bargains to be had with discontinued items. Selected lamps, homewares and pieces of furniture are reduced by up to 40 per cent. Discontinued cushions start at $10. Our regular bamboo furniture supplier has decided to retire. Their range had a distinctive look and has always been popular. There are still a few pieces available at reduced prices. New furniture is arriving regularly, both locally made and from overseas. For those of you interested in our own, locally made, recycled hardwood daybeds, these are now back in stock. Byron Designworks, phone 6685 5714

Beat the heat in your summer garden

Keep your garden looking great in the heat. The Mediterranean herbs like rosemary, oregano, marjoram, thyme and basil don’t really care how hot it gets. Tender ones like coriander and dill will go to seed more quickly in summer, so plant in semi-shade. Loose-leaf varieties of lettuce are more heat tolerant than their hearting cousins, so plant mignonette or oak-leaf types. Grow them in semi-shade and replant about every four weeks to ensure a continuous supply. You can put a simple shade structure over your vegie garden for the next few months for protection. Make your own from shadecloth supported by some sturdy stakes, or buy a shade tunnel kit which is easy to assemble. Create a cool feel in outdoor areas by growing a water plant in a large water bowl. Lotuses and water lilies are spectacular and are just some of the options. For heat-loving flowers think marigolds, vincas, portulacas, petunias, geraniums, hibiscus, frangipanis, bougainvilleas, allamandas, dipladenias and mandevillas. Keep garden beds well mulched, water deeply as required, and your garden will continue to shine despite the heat. Eden at Byron 140 Bangalow Rd, Byron Bay, phone 6685 6874.
