The Firebird women’s basketball team has earned a berth in the ECC Tournament in two of those three years. • Head Coach Lester Butler, Jr. is in his 10th season at University of the District of Columbia. He recently reached the 150-win milestone on Wed., Feb. 26 with a Firebirds victory over Dowling. • Junior transfer guard Telisha Turner became the fourth player at UDC under Coach Butler to surpass the 1,000-point career scoring mark when she did so on Feb. 1, 2014 vs. STAC.

About Dowling Founded in 1955 as part of Adelphi University’s Suffolk Campus, the college purchased the former W.K. Vanderbilt estate in Oakdale in 1962. In 1968 the college was renamed after its chief benefactor, Robert Dowling, a noted city planner and aviator. Situated on the banks of the Connetquot River on a former Vanderbilt estate, Dowling’s Rudolph Campus in Oakdale is among the nation’s most beautiful. The 105-acre Brookhaven Center is located on William Floyd Parkway in Shirley and features high-tech learning facilities for a broad range of undergraduate and graduate courses. Located within walking distance to the Long Island Rail Road and featuring free parking and shuttle bus service, Dowling is easily accessible from both Suffolk and Nassau counties, as well as the five boroughs of New York City.

Did You Know? • The Lady Knights made it to the AIAW Finals in 1973 and were one of the two participants in the first women’s basketball game ever played at Madison Square Garden in 1975. • Gail Marquis was a silver medalist for the first United States Olympic Women’s Basketball Team. • The Queens College men’s and women’s tennis teams both advanced to the NCAA Round of 16 last year, earning top-25 rankings along the way.
