After playing for 11 years in Europe, James Baird is hoping to build a bridge for Trinidadian players to take their skills across the water to America and Europe. Baird and his wife Debby are owners of the new club Trinidad and Tobago Highlanders FC. With the goal of producing players who can make the club a competitive side fairly quickly, Baird has signed on to do triple duty with the club, as an owner, assistant coach and player. He will join 4 to 5 other experienced players as they lead a squad of remaining under 21 players. To spearhead the management of the team, Baird has tapped local Trinidadian, Coach Alexander, to serve as the head coach. Alexander has a track record for developing talent at schools and pro clubs
Off the pitch, the new club has a number of ways that they desire to connect with the local community. One of these opportunities includes an outreach program that will include players participating in community improvement projects as well as meet and greet events with school children. The second way is through sponsorship. T&T Highlanders FC is looking for partners to invest in the growth of world class players. Through a financial underwriting of the club’s kits, sports equipment and travel costs companies can showcase their commitment to fans and players of the club. Match programs, boards, kit signage and possible television promotion are the benefits of forming a relationship with T&T Highlanders FC.
