structure were very important. It can be assumed that the students could not do it well at reading for main idea because their basic knowledge in grammatical rules was not good enough. In conclusion, the four subskills which have been discussed above mostly found in reading critically and they seemed problematic to the students. Even though the students did quite well at differentiating between facts and opinions, it does not mean their overall critical reading skill is satisfactory. Therefore, as a whole or for each subskill, the level of the third-year English-major students’ ability in critical reading does not reach the 75% criterion.
