PRESS RELEASE Nástio Mosquito at the Festival Metro54/Amsterdam After releasing his most recent musical work – Deixa-‐me Entrar – last July, Nástio Mosquito is now traveling the world seeking new artistic platforms engaged in the deployment of innovative ways to blend the often segregated acts of being, conceiving and consuming artistic experiences. Just last week, Nástio revisited Europe, the birthplace of his career. Instead of hitting festivals that have long matured in size and visibility like Sudoeste, Nástio went to Amsterdam to participate at an event poised to become the next big thing of its kind -‐ the Metro54, a weeklong cross-‐cultural event that took place in an open-‐sky venue in which music, dance, poetry, cinema and European urban lifestyle and culture were highlighted. Surrounded by high-‐rises and all the concrete an urban space exudes, the Arena Park, housed the event. A platform bringing in all sorts of artistic assortments, creators and worlds, Metro54 enabled collaborations between individuals while encouraging them to redefine the way they experience art. One of the highlighted cultural manifestations born within city spaces was Kuduro, a musical style created in a lively stretch of urban land, Luanda. Mosquito expressed his interpretation of the universe that propitiated the birth of the genre and the way he understands the conditions that work as pillars that sustain this artistic thread as cultural expression. Nástio Mosquito set up a video installation of 3 screens over a wooden floor carpeted with okra, eggplants, green beans, hot peppers, mangoes, strawberries, peaches, pineapples, 10 kg of sugar and 5 plastic containers of engine fuel. Angolan films -‐ Testes do Sofá, Assaltos em Luanda -‐ American films and political documentaries were used as video material which was continuously streamed and juxtaposed over hit tracks from the Kuduristas Bruno M and Game Walla blasting on speakers.

Kuduro “is like juicy fruit…but even juicy fruit in abundance that is excessively ripe becomes unexciting and rots out…Ultimately the [installation with the ripe fruit and fresh food becoming ripe] is my commentary about and understanding of what 2

Kuduro is today, with consultants hired by the state to brand it, package it, and sell it.”. Though not a fan of Kuduro, Nástio celebrates the ‘power that comes from it and the power it confers to those who produce it...its creative language and its narratives. ‘To me’ adds Mosquito, ‘ [Kuduro] is a highly inspiring phenomena.’ Nástio Mosquito also hosted a talk show at the RedLight Radio, an on-‐ line station with shows of local DJs and personalities, broadcasting from an old prostitution window at the RedLight District, Amsterdam. Curated by Amal Alhaag, the 2nd edition of Metro54 was sponsored by RedBull and Spotify bringing in unique performances, jam sessions and artists like Kalaf Ângelo N ásti o Mosq uito a t the RedLi ght Ra dio ( Amster da m) wi th (Portugal), Mind the Gap (Portugal), K al af  ngel o Benjamin LeBrave (Ghana), among others. Nástio Mosquito é músico, performer, produtor, e criativo pela DZZZZ, ArtWork e Director Executivo da DZZZZ, Enterprises.
