Folium Award winning Australian Photographer Dylan Coombe is pleased to present the photographic series Folium. Folium explores the intricacies and complexities hidden within leaves found in nature. Each leaf is selected due to unique and elaborate formations caused during interactions within the changing environment. Each subject is photographed in precise detail by way of a highly refined process utilising a combination of Film and Digital technology to produce images up to and beyond 200 megapixels. This means every elaborate detail that was once invisible to the naked eye, emerges as a beautifully complex display of dimensional textures and forms. Folium is an ongoing body of work with new pieces released periodically.

Dylan Coombe Through the medium of photography, Dylan is currently exploring both ephemeral and enduring elements in nature both in their relationship to each other and individually. Utilising perceived strengths of a broad range of photographic equipment and mediums in both analogue and digital formats, Dylan will often combine or re-engineer cameras or equipment for alternate purposes; constantly experimenting, pushing boundaries, breaking rules and developing new techniques to produce unique and expansive bodies of work. Dylan works with a vast range of cameras, mediums and techniques which include Medium Format Digital, Digital Gigapixel Panoramas, Large Format Film (4×5” & 8×10”), Darkroom Printing and Joiners to name a few.

Limited Edition Prints Only 1 print (plus 1 artist proof) will ever be made. Due to the uniqueness of each individual leaf, prints from this series are being made available as 1 of 1 prints only. Each print is accompanied by the original leaf, preserved in resin, allowing you to display your print along side the original leaf which was photographed. This makes the piece uniquely yours and is guaranteed to be a talking point in your home or office. Each print is Individually Signed, Numbered and Dated on the back of the print with a serialized, numbered hologram and matching hologramed Certificate of Authenticity. A print smaller than the size listed can be made upon request. This will become the 1/1 print.

Utilising high quality Epson Ultrachrome K3 Pigment Inks, each photograph in this series is Giclée Printed onto Hahnemühle Bamboo Fine Art Paper, providing exceptional sharpness, colour and archival properties. Hahnemühle Bamboo is the world’s first digital fine art inkjet paper made from bamboo fibres. This paper represents spirituality, naturalness and a connection to the natural environment from which the subjects of this series were sourced. The speed at which Bamboo grows and renews, perfectly mirrors the ephemeral nature of the leaves in this series. For just a fraction of a moment, the world presents a leaf suitable to make its way into this series, so it only made sense to connect the paper to the subject matter printed onto it in this way.
