ith the arrival of spring blooms and drawn-out daylight hours, in this issue, we are celebrating the season with a round-up of spring styles (page 22) for you to wear down the aisle. From flouncy sleeves to delicate floral embroideries, these gowns embody new beginnings – for both a fresh start to the year and your first steps into married life. When it comes to styling your wedding, there are options abound. Once you’ve chosen your venue, all the ways to decorate and make the day your own will be flooding your thoughts. Planning your wedding day is one of the most exciting experiences and you will be bursting with ideas, passion and love. Try to tie your styling together, either with a colour scheme or running theme, to avoid having too much going on.
This issue is our décor special and we are on hand to help you think of unique ways to display your table plan (page 43), create a feature backdrop (page 66) and how to inject tons of personality into your décor (page 46). Take inspiration from the featured styled photoshoots, one of which is inspired by the hit Netflix series Bridgerton (page 68), and explore our themed mood board pages (page 64 and 74). Here at Weddings and Honeymoons, we think it’s the little details that make all the difference. From elegant tablescapes with charger plates and place name cards to trailing eucalyptus running along the sides of the aisle in your ceremony, adding both colour and a fabulous fragrance that will forever remind you of saying your vows. Make your day memorable with personal touches and individual flair. On page 40 we explore ways to preserve your wedding bouquet, from drying the blooms to sealing them in resin. My own wedding flowers were so fabulous, I wish they could have lasted forever! I had a live painter on my wedding day, so the blooms were captured both by paintbrush and camera. But given the time again, I would have preserved my flowers in one of the unique ways explored in this feature! The Indian Ocean steals the hearts of many newlywed couples. Volume! Follow these hair tips and tricks to achieve salon-ready volume and lustre from renowned hairdresser Michael Van Clarke, to ensure your big day is a good hair day…
W
hen it comes to hair, volume is always sought-after and it's down to your products and pre-care routine to get your locks in tip-top condition to achieve it. How quickly your hair disintegrates into limp lifeless hair is all dependent on your haircare routine. The right preparation before your wedding can ensure smooth styling on the day. With so many other things to worry about on your wedding day, let hair be the least of your worries by following these tips to get your hair feeling fabulous in advance. For traditional bridal hair, images of backcombed up-dos and lacquered helmets of hair spring to mind, but for Michael, he prefers hair with movement and vitality. To get this lustrous hairstyle, body and volume work hand in hand, and the number one suspect for flat lank hair is the haircut. Michael recommends avoiding cutting the outline shape in an A-Line, as this gives hair a natural bias to fall forward and flat. For the perfect haircut, Michael Van Clarke pioneered his signature cutting techniques, The Diamond Dry Cut, offered by all of his staff in his Marylebone salon. To improve volume manually, use round brushes and tongs to give lots of styling options, and use pin curls or velcro rollers in lightly damp hair. For dry hair, Michael recommends steaming it in the bath for quick and effective volume. To prepare the hair, Michael recommends a fantastic

hair mask, such as his LifeSaver Pre-wash Treatment to ensure hair is supple, soft and shiny for styling. Another important tip is to use the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair. Shampoos lift the cuticle on the hairshaft to clean and conditioners reseal the cuticle for combability, shine and protection. For the best results, after shampooing rinse thoroughly as residues can make the hair heavy or dull, and this is often why salon blow-dries look and last better! Michael advises using his Cashmere Protein Volumising Shampoo if your hair is already soft and silky. But, if the hair is drier, more textured or coarse the Cashmere Protein Moisturising Shampoo is likely to be best. Conditioner should also always be used even if you think your hair doesn’t need it or it can’t take it because it’s too fine. If you’re looking for thicker and more workable hair, Michael advocates thickeners and texturisers to build volume and grip into the hair shaft so it occupies more space. Use products like Thicker Quicker on the smooth roots to keep the hair looking thick and natural, while appearing double in size and thickness. When looking for what not to use, avoid silicone or cheap harsh cleansers as these leave hair vulnerable, dehydrated and fragile. Instead look for cashmere protein amino acids, which are almost identical to human hair molecules, to rebuild and protect the hair. Also, keep an eye out for Panthenol and Wheat Protein to help retain hair moisture. These key ingredients can be found

Top tips for brides
1. Book the hairdresser and makeup artist early! If possible book the stylists for the whole day so that they are on hand for the photographs and an evening change of look. 2. Have a minimum of one trial with the hairdresser and makeup artist at least a month before the big day, showing them your dress, veil and style for inspiration. 3. Your hair and makeup should reflect your personality to ensure you feel comfortable with the overall look. It should reflect the ‘Red Carpet’ version of you so make sure you’re happy with your stylist's plans. 4. Book your haircut and colour two weeks before your wedding; a simple semi permanent colour can add tone and depth or keep to your regular colour. Have regular haircuts in the lead-up to the wedding as the ends need to be healthy to define the hair. 5. Have regular salon hair treatments. Michael's hero product is 3"' More Inches LifeSaver Pre-wash Treatment, the only silicone-free treatment system for all hair types that dramatically improves the health, strength and beauty of you hair from root to tip. 6. Shampoo and lightly condition the hair the night before your big day and let it dry naturally, as this allows the hair to settle and not be too soft for styling.
in Michael's products, such as The Thickening Spray formula, which has plant extracts to give grip and texture to floppy roots. Michael loves to use a hair mousse to thicken fine hair by moisturising the mid lengths and ends to promote flexibility. These products, Michael states, balance out the different textures in the hair for maximum volume, smooth texture and radiant shine – every bride’s goal! When trying to capture that full-hair look, volume starts at the roots. Most of Michael's clients are surprised by how much natural volume and body they have when their hair is prepared well, so he advises not to allow the hair to dry plastered against the head or with a towel over it as this will suffocate the roots into a flat position. Take out the excess moisture with a towel and then release all of the roots by combing in an upward direction from the hairline towards the back to allow the ends to settle down. Another tip he provides is to not blast dry the hair directly or with a nozzle, especially in a downward motion, as this will kill natural body. Instead, prepare the shape with a diffuser while gently lifting the roots with fingers or their No. 1 Brush. This will give you all the body and volume you need on your big day and beyond. lowers are a big part of any wedding day, adding a sensory experience to your celebrations with scent, colour and stunning visual aesthetics. In many ways they are the central part in dressing your venue. It’s such a shame to throw away your blooms once the wedding is over, so why not use some of these ideas to preserve your flowers and remember the special memories forever…
Drying
A simple way to preserve your bouquet is to let it air-dry and create a dried flower display. You can arrange in a way to emulate your wedding flowers or style something new. Firstly, you need to unwrap the bouquet and then hang the stems one-by-one upside down in a dry, temperate area. Separating the stems gives your blooms the best form possible for arranging afterwards. Dry the stems for at least a week, arrange them into a wreath, in a vase or even create confetti to pass onto a loved one’s wedding!

Pressing
Flower pressing is very popular and easier than you’d think. Spread the flowers out onto a sheet of wax paper, making sure they’re in the desired position to be pressed. Then, sandwich them between another layer of wax paper and press them between the pages of a heavy book weighted down for 7-10 days. This is a great way to have a supply of pressed flowers to use around your home. You could arrange them as bouquets to put in frames or use them as a meaningful border to place around your favourite framed wedding snaps.

This method keeps your blooms looking as close to how they did on the wedding day than any other. Form a base of silica gel (it isn’t really a gel but rather a kind of porous sand) in an airtight container and nestle the blooms in. Gently pour around the flowers being careful not to crush or compromise the shape of the petals, fill to the top and seal for a week of drying. When the week is up, remove the flowers and spray them with hairspray for dried realistic flowers to treasure.

Dipping in Wax Even though this isn’t a permanent form of preservation, wax dipping will extend the life of your flowers for up to six months and it makes a great gift to pass onto loved ones who couldn’t make it, so they can still share in the joy of your celebrations. For this method, melt paraffin wax in a saucepan of boiling water, gently dip the flowers into the slightly cooled mixture and then hang upside down for vividly preserved blooms. The best part is you can’t tell the difference between wax-dipped and real besides the feel as it preserves the colour and shape really effectively.

Add “Green” To Your Wedding Colour Palette The average wedding in the U.S. produces 400 pounds of garbage and 63 tons of CO2 (according to Green Bride Guide). Everyone remembers the famous scene from Steel Magnolias when Julia Roberts argued that her wedding colour was not pink, but blush and bashful. But, here is an idea! Why not add “green” to your wedding plans and we don’t mean moss and parsley! The environment can be a touchy subject, especially in our political world, but clearly this young generation wants to do things that are truly eco-friendly. So, why not for your wedding too? The couple will certainly feel good about it, but so will your guests knowing that you consciously took major steps to help the environment. We at Blame Her Ranch, given our rural and southwestern heritage in Santa Fe, love this idea! What should be on your “green” list? Here are a few suggestions: 1. DINNERWARE It is easy to gravitate towards plastic cups and paper plates instead of using dinnerware. Yes, more expensive and yes, more clean up, but the savings of trash bags full of disposables more than makes up for this special step. And, let’s face it, fine china, glassware and real utensils are a lot more classy! 2. DRIED FLOWERS Rice and paper confetti are nearly impossible to clean-up and not always biodegradable. Add a little colour by using dried flowers both for the flower girls and to send off the couple. 3. DECORATIONS For every wedding at BHR, we ask the couple to donate their decorations for future weddings. While this can save you a few bucks, it also avoids buying un-recycled decorations or buying paper materials to create your own. If you do need to create your own, use recycled materials. 4. POTTED FLOWERS VS CUT FLOWERS While it cannot work in all situations or venues, BHR likes to suggest that couples use potted flowers and other live plants instead of cut flowers that die soon after the ceremony. These special flowers can be taken home after the wedding 76

and enjoyed for years to come. If you do use cut flowers, we suggest pressing them or drying them after the big day. 5. INVITATIONS Digital invitations are certainly the new trend. If you decide to do this, make a small contribution to an environmental organisation with the money you would have spent on printed invitations. But, if your heart is set on something physical, we suggest you print your invitations on plantable seed paper or recycled paper. 6. SHUTTLES If you are having your wedding at a venue like Blame Her Ranch, we strongly recommend shuttles for a host of reasons, but, it also cuts down on carbon emissions. 7. LOCAL INGREDIENTS When picking your caterers, you obviously need to make sure the food tastes incredible. But, you should also ask the caterer’s use of local ingredients. This is particularly important here in Santa Fe, NM where chefs embrace local farmers and ranchers when designing their menu. Speaking of menus, add a note about where the ingredients of each dish come from. Maybe a little extra work, but a nice subtle touch. 8. WEDDING FAVOURS Many couples offer a bag of treats for when guests arrive or leave on their special day. What an area to go “green”. Like your choice of flower and vegetable seeds for them to plant as a living proof of your nuptials. But, also in that recycled gift bag can be recycled items that encourage your guests to take an active role in Eco friendly steps in their day-to-day life. 9. TABLE DECORATIONS Instead of lining your dinner tables with baby’s breath and cut flowers, replace all that wastage with mini-succulents or small potted plants and tell everyone to take one home as a gift. Before “biting” into this green apple (which is another idea in its own right), you need to merchandise and communicate all your green initiatives at your wedding. You’re making a big contribution to the environment and your wedding can be a showpiece and a great learning experience for your guests. Even little things help, so don’t feel you need to do them all. Tell the story and what you did on big recycled posters to highlight the extra effort you put into making your wedding truly green. WH

CLOUD NINE For Angus and Nathan’s engagement, they really had their head in the clouds when the big moment came. “Angus had hired a venue at the top of Millbank Tower overlooking Westminster, saying it was for a charity drinks event to me. When we arrived, the sun was setting over the London skyline and Angus got down on one knee!” LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT That’s how this couple describe discovering their dream venue at North Cadbury Court. “We didn’t have a particular location in mind when we started looking, so we visited a lot of places. But at North Cadbury Court, the house and grounds were stunning, they had great on-site accommodation and the team, led by the amazing Georgia, were so helpful.” The couple invited 120 guests to share the celebrations with them at their Somerset country house venue. THE BIG DAY “We chose to get ready together, along with close family and our groomsmaids and groomsmen. It was so lovely. We were all relaxed and shared some special moments, with great photos too. It was great to have a glass of Champagne together before the ceremony.” The wedding party looked stylish in blue Next suits and Charles Tyrwhitt shirts, with the groomsmaids in stunning blush maxi dresses from Phase Eight. Angus added a navy waistcoat and Nathan a waistcoat in

grey to stand out. A string quartet set the tone for the ceremony, before The Tricks band took to the stage for the evening. The newlyweds chose ‘At Last’ by Etta James for their first dance. “We chose the song after we got engaged, but having postponed our wedding, it took on a whole new meaning,” they reminisce. SCENT-SATIONAL When asked about their wedding blooms, the couple had a clear memory: “Our florist, The Wilde Bunch, brought our vision to life and it all smelled amazing! She absolutely got the style we were going for and helped us choose items like candles, while lending her expertise on the flowers. We wanted our wedding to feel elegant but also cosy and autumnal and our florist Claire made that happen.” Also lending a hand were good friends Jared and Marcus, who created the couple’s wedding cake. “It was a beautiful three-tier cake covered in white icing and adorned with eucalyptus leaves and navy ribbon. We had a fruit cake tier, the middle was lemon sponge and the top tier a vegan lemon sponge, so everyone could enjoy a slice of it.” WH

Real Weddings “Our décor and country house venue were inspired by Bridgerton”
BE OUR GUEST That was the sentiment that guided Rachael and Henry’s wedding plans, but we’ll let them tell you the story: “We wanted to treat our closest family and friends to a weekend away. The Halloween weekend became our date, so on the Friday night we had a welcome evening and ice breaker with a pub quiz that we hosted. We gave out prizes, including gold medals in a nod to my Olympian husband,” Rachael smiles. “Saturday was our wedding day and Sunday we dedicated to a proper Halloween celebration!” The couple opted for Cornwall’s Burncoose House as the venue for their festivities, admiring its “luxurious but cosy” feel. “It felt like home to us and it wowed everyone!” Having originally compiled a guest list stretching to 130 people, the couple rethought their plans: “That number felt daunting to us. We wanted a party with everyone but to say our vows privately, so we decided on a micro wedding, and invited 27 guests to share the moment with us. It meant we could consider everyone personally, hand-select welcome baskets, add personal details and other touches.” FINDING THE ONE The bride initially opted for a simple style, knowing she could accessorise it to add glitz later. “I described it to my mum and she made me the dress, which meant a lot as she wouldn’t be able to attend. Closer to the wedding, I also chose a Catherine Deane design to dance in, which I didn’t want to take off.”

Groom Henry looked dapper in a doublebreasted midnight blue tuxedo, complemented by his two best men who also wore tuxedos. “They each had inside jokes embroidered under the collar,” the bride laughs. “Our daughter, who had only recently mastered walking, was our flower girl and she wore a beautiful lace dress with a lace capelet.” THE BIG MOMENT “I was so excited to marry Henry, but I joked that when I walked down the aisle I wanted everyone to look the other way, I was so anxious,” explains Rachael, “I got ready in my own corner and it was absolutely fantastic as people passed me tea and mimosas, with all the women in my life with me, listening to music and helping each other feel their best. I felt thankful to them all the way through.” WHEN IN ENGLAND “We wanted our wedding to be whimsical and romantic, but still a party. Think Bridgerton ending in a 70s disco!” the bride laughs. “We used faux wisteria to create a focal point and asked our florist for seasonal flowers in a muted pastel palette. She and her husband are creative geniuses!” the couple enthuse. ODE TO ITALY “We’ve chosen Italy for our honeymoon in the summer, exploring Rome and Capri. I think it will be magical!” WH

Romance in Narnia MEANT TO BE Few couples are lucky enough to know each other almost all of their lives, but for Chris and Amanda, that’s how their story began: “We lived in the same neighbourhood and our families were incredibly close, we even went on holidays together. Amanda’s parents moved away when she was 11 and we lost touch, decades passed and we saw each other half a dozen times in 40 years!” “But then, two and a half years ago, we both found ourselves single and magically, we both realised that ‘we’ should always have been an ‘us’,” Chris smiles. “Our friend who works in antiques found the perfect Art Deco engagement ring for us.”

For Chris, a wardrobe change was also in order, changing into a red velvet jacket for the evening. WARM WELCOME Arriving in a wonderland of Narnia-inspired décor, with faux fur drapes, antler detailing and breathtaking floral displays, guests were instantly warmed with mugs of mulled cider and hot chocolate from a vintage drinks van beside fire pits, before taking their seats to a candlelit wedding breakfast and not one, but two wedding cakes! Real Weddings “By luck, we got married on the same day my grandparents did!”
WHERE THE HEART IS After Jen and Joe met at Lancaster University 15 years ago, little did they know they’d be returning to this city to tie the knot one day. “We knew as soon as we got engaged that Ashton Memorial in Williamson Park would be a really special wedding venue for us. We both love going back there to visit. Most couples have their ceremony at the Ashton then move on somewhere else for the reception, but we decided to have our reception there, too.” “Finding a caterer who could create a three course meal in the grounds without running water was tricky, but luckily we found Ribble Valley Catering, who weren’t phased by anything!” THE I DOS “Our ceremony was really special. We’d waited so long, it felt amazing to be finally getting married. It felt surreal. I’m usually a crier and thought I’d cry during the ceremony, but I was weirdly calm and confident. My stepdad was very emotional walking me down the aisle and during his speech, when he mentioned the people we no longer have with us, including my dad,” the bride recalls. Jen looked stunning in ‘Alaina’ by Maggie Sottero for the big moment. “My mum picked it out and I couldn’t stop thinking about it, so I knew it had to be the one.” READY, SET, CELEBRATE After the ceremony, the couple continued the festivities with their guests with dinner and dancing.

“Our venue was set on a hill with great views of Lancashire, and the Butterfly House is beautiful, too. All we added were flowers – it was all it needed. The soft glow of the band lights at night worked really well. We just added some extra lights to the surrounding trees to light the way to the pizza van!” The groom was in charge of the wedding day soundtrack, choosing Indie Heads to fill the dance floor all night and a string trio to create an atmosphere during the ceremony and drinks reception. “We ended up having two first dance songs,” grins Jen. “Just as the band were due to play our first dance, we still hadn’t made up our mind! We went for ‘Lover of the Light’ by Mumford and Sons and then a little while later, the band played our second choice, ‘Small Bones’ by the Courteneers, so we had a second first dance, too!” UNIQUELY YOURS “Deciding to have the whole of our wedding at Ashton Memorial meant sourcing all our suppliers ourselves. There are some great small businesses out there and it meant we could find the perfect people for us and we didn’t have to settle or compromise. Getting a videographer was a brilliant choice, too!” WH

A Midsummer Night’s Dream THE BIG NIGHT As Emma and Josh gazed up at the stars one night in the outback of Australia, this groom found the perfect moment to propose. “It was so unexpected and the most amazing surprise,” Emma grins. The couple opted to evoke a similar atmosphere back in the UK for their wedding at Coombe Lodge, which they shared with 80 guests. “We chose a date in July because we loved the idea of a summer wedding with long, warm evenings and beautiful sunsets to watch. We were lucky to have the perfect weather for our outdoor ceremony.” AISLE STYLE Most brides begin their search anything from a year or more before the big day, but circumstances dictated that Emma had only 12 weeks to find her perfect dress. “We’d been in lockdown and I was starting to worry, so my mum, sister and I visited Liney’s Brides in Leicestershire and I showed the owner a few dresses I’d liked online. I was convinced I wanted something fishtail and fitted. I didn’t actually pick my dress off the rail, the owner

“We had our first dance outside at sunset”
Jenna did! She just knew it would be perfect – it was the first one I tried on and I bought it!” The bridesmaids joined her in stunning navy ‘Cecelia’ designs from TH&TH Bridesmaids. “Josh had bought a velvet suit for our wedding, but about a week before he realised it would be too hot for our summer wedding. So at the last minute, he purchased a black dinner suit instead, accessorised with a black tie with spacemen on from Mrs Bow Tie.” BLOOMING BEAUTIFUL To complement the couple’s black, white and navy theme, their florist worked with neutral tones of green and white. “I asked for peonies because I love them, and left the choice to the florist, who worked with some lovely seasonal favourites,” Emma explains. “Our confetti was amazing – it was made from dried flower petals from the garden of my childhood home, and my grandparents’ garden too. My mum and her partner spent two years drying them for our big day.” Josh’s mum also turned her hand to the wedding preparations, baking the couple’s three tier cake. “We had lemon butter icing and it was absolutely SUPPLIERS: delicious!”, they grin.

Billesley Manor Meandering down the long driveway into the grounds of Billesley Manor Hotel & Spa, we looked at one another with an excited grin as the imposing Elizabethan manor came into view – lucky, lucky us! Located on the outskirts of Stratford-upon-Avon, the Shakespearean town where the famous poet and playwright was born, Billesley Manor is steeped in history. Shakespeare himself visited the Manor, writing his pastoral comedy ‘As You Like It’ in the hotel's aptly named As You Like It Lounge. The lounge features a library of books artistically scattered across the ceiling and views onto the gardens. The Topiary Gardens, planted over 125 years ago, are fashioned into the shape of a giant chess set inspired by Alice in Wonderland. In the summer months, you can savour afternoon tea in the peaceful sanctuary of the gardens. We sampled the afternoon tea menu and fully recommend that you indulge during your stay. Also overlooking the lawns and serving delicious dishes made with local ingredients, (try the chicken liver parfait with chicken skin, pickled mushrooms and black garlic!) the hotel’s Stuart Restaurant is full of old-world charm, with original 16th Century oak panelling. If you choose to hold your wedding at Billesley Manor you’ll be in good company. In 1582 Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway in the 11th Century church that sits on the property's grounds. For your own day, you can choose to say ‘I do’ outside in the Topiary Gardens or inside in a choice of suites. Thornbury Castle
As we approached Thornbury Castle, all lit up with twinkling, warm lights, we knew we were in for a treat. This beautiful 16th Century building was certainly living up to expectation so far! Set in 15 acres of regal splendour and enveloped in Tudor walled gardens, this castle is certainly fit for a king. In fact, it was once owned by King Henry VIII himself and this was enough to entice us to visit. The interior is lovingly refurbished in keeping with the original features and the 26 bedrooms are all named after key figures from Tudor history. The clunk of our key in the wooden door of our room transported us back to the Tudor ages but the modern comfort of our room's sumptuous four-poster bed was heaven to sink into after our journey to the Gloucestershire countryside. With plumped pillows and a cosy duvet, it was hard to resist a quick snooze! But the excitement of dinner beckoned us downstairs and we were thrilled to be met by a sample of delicious dishes, including a moist guinea fowl breast accompanied with sweetcorn and leek plucked from their very own castle kitchen garden. A personal highlight was to stroll around the grounds before our afternoon tea in the library the next day, where we indulged in finger sandwiches, tarts and macarons to our heart's content! We were utterly blown away by the service at Thornbury Castle, from the staff at dinner to the warm welcome on arrival, we certainly felt like royalty after our luxurious stay at this venue. But my
favourite of the excursions and the one I was lucky enough to explore myself, is the catamaran tour, to get an uninterrupted view of St Lucia’s famous Pitons. The spectacular landmark visible for miles are twin volcanic spires majestically soaring out of the sea with waves crashing around their bases. We stopped off twice on the boat trip to snorkel in the clearest of seas, getting a first-hand look at the variety of wildlife that live in the protected waters. The tour finishes with a trip to the world’s only drive-in volcano and a dip in the sulphur waters. The mud baths of St Lucia attract people from all over the world because it detoxifies the body and helps heal sun burns, eczema, arthritis, sore joints, and more. After all that exploring, you deserve a little R&R. Stop by the Sanctuary Spa for an oceanfront couples massage in the spa cabana. Take it from me, a full body massage surrounded by the sea air's smell and sound is a treat for the senses and an experience that replenishes, relaxes and rejuvenates. How To Save Money on Your Wedding In An Age of Rapid Inflation
T
here is no question, everything is going up. We are currently living in an inflationary world where every category has been affected to levels not seen in 40 years.
Weddings are already extremely expensive. In fact, weddings are currently the third largest expense in a couple’s life after buying a home and family car. At Blame Her Ranch, we will be forced to increase our prices this July, but it will only cover some of the vendor cost increases we are already experiencing. Our ranch, while an expensive venue, helps couples save in other areas given our unique product offering, location and lack of costly requirements. Here are just some ideas we suggest: THE BIG ONE VENUE As we always say, it starts with the venue selection. Even before picking a date! There is no question that having your wedding at your home or parent’s home is an enormous cost saving. But, before selecting this, make sure it will accommodate your guests and that there are no regulatory or zoning issues with having your wedding in a residential setting. The next venue idea is to rent a home via Airbnb or other-like services. Again, be careful, as not all Airbnb’s allow for large-scale events like weddings. BHR fits into this category nicely, while offering multiple locations and a guests sleeping capacity of 44. But, unlike hotels, BHR and other home rentals don’t have the extra costs and requirements you will find at hotels and resorts. First of all, there are no resort fees, gratuity charges and other add-ons that drive up the price. But, BHR also allows you to choose your catering and bar options vs being restricted to only what the hotel offers. Many of these facilities also require you to use a wedding planner, shut down at 10:00pm and don’t offer exclusivity or multiple events over a long weekend. This category without question can save you tens of thousands of pounds by utilising a private residence vs a commercial operation. SECONDARY COST SAVINGS WEDDING DRESS Your wedding dress must be special. But, it does not have to be owned as you will only (most
likely) wear it once. The rental wedding gown industry is exploding and can save you thousands of dollars and still get you the dress of your dreams. DIY FLOWERS Flowers or florists are expensive. For my daughter’s wedding the first floral estimate was more than the catering bill. So, we strongly recommend at BHR a “Do It Yourself” florist where floral treatments are sent to you and ready to go one day in advance. All you need to do is put them at the desired location(s), tack them down, and fluff them up for any and all of your events. MAKEUP AND HAIR Some of our brides have chosen to do their own hair and makeup on the wedding morning, assisted by the maid of honor and bridesmaids. Althought not for everyone doing so can save you hundreds and you’ll still look beautiful on your special day. FOOD & DRINK The sit-down dinner is no longer mandatory in our new millennial world. Many couples save a great deal of money and still have fun serving from food trucks and other low-cost food providers. There is even the possibility (depending on size) to have a family member prepare the food assuming your venue’s kitchen is large enough (like BHR’s). Also, by picking the right venue and hiring licensed bartenders, you can purchase your own alcohol— as long as you do not charge for drinks. CUPCAKES VS CAKE There are so many great ways to offer dessert without having a cake. We have seen it all— from cookies to cupcakes to wedding doughnuts. Each is a little different and will not only save you money but provide a little creativity on your special day. Don’t let inflation over-inflate your wedding budget.
