Durham University Business School Student and Alumni Careers Support and Resources

At Durham University Business School we take an active role in developing the careers of our students and graduates. We can provide you with support in a variety of ways, these include:

CAREER SUPPORT

International Careers Events

Masters and undergraduate students and alumni have access to the services provided by Durham University’s Careers, Employability and Enterprise Centre (CEEC), which offers one-toone careers guidance, advice and information. During term time priority is given to current students and those who graduated during the previous year.

Durham University Business School runs career events for alumni who are up to three years’ post-graduation in London, China and India.

Masters and Undergraduate Alumni can find further information about the careers support available to them, including how to book careers appointments at www.durham.ac.uk/ careers/graduates MBA alumni can take advantage of two free sessions per year with a Durham University Business School Careers Consultant who can provide coaching and signposting to a range of useful careers tools. ONLINE CAREER RESOURCES The Careers Gateway section of our dedicated alumni website – www.durham.ac.uk/business/alumni – provides a comprehensive selection of career development resources and tools. Continuously reviewed and updated, these currently include: Jobs Board – A global jobs board which enables you to search from thousands of opportunities in sectors, functions and cities that are specific to your career interests

Ebooks – Careers Ebooks are available on a number of topics such as How to Get the Job You Want, Salary Negotiations, Personal Branding and Career Change Tips. Webinars – We have partnered with career change experts Position Ignition to deliver a series of webinars to further enhance your career and skills development. You can gain access to our previous webinars in the series by watching a recorded version, which include: – Making a Career Change

ResilientExec – A powerful online tool featuring databases, articles, podcasts, links to external industry-recognised sources and useful interactive exercises. 10 minutes with... – An educational website designed to help students and graduates understand the true nature of different employment roles and identify the career path that suits them as an individual. Skills Index – Provided by Blue Ice Consulting, the Index is a range of learning and business tools on topics which include: Personal Effectiveness, Change, and Working Effectively Across Cultures.

As well joining your Local Association Group (contact the Alumni Team to be put in touch with your nearest group) the Durham University Business School Alumni Network regularly organises events around the globe. To stay informed of these do make sure that we have your current contact details, including city of residence. The current schedule of events is available on www.durham.ac.uk/business/alumni

Upon completion of your programme, access to student library resources ceases, however, many of the journals and databases are available to you via the alumni website, these include EBSCO, JSTOR and Lexis Nexis, to which the School has a subscription.

D8 is a worldwide series of master-class events taking place in eight of our most significant markets throughout 2013-2014. Organised with our alumni, current and prospective students in mind, these Continuing Professional Development workshops were introduced to support our vision of lifelong learning. In 2014 D8 events are expected to take place in Canada, China, Geneva, India, Singapore, Taiwan, the USA and the UK.
