Q&A Micachu Elsewhere... & The Shapes What’s behind the name? Micachu is what happens when you say mica and then sneeze - Pikachu is a small electronic genderless Pokemon character; sweet but explosive when angered. I was nicknamed Micachu by Baker Trouble because of Pikcachu similarities. What are your plans for 2013? To write a novel and up my fitness levels. You’re known for making customised instruments such as a vacuum cleaner... any new designs in the pipeline? I wish I could say that I made the vacuum cleaner - I did use it to distort my voice in the live show. I like things that are multi-functional… me and my friend David Sylvester made two ‘choppers’, which is an acoustic instrument we invented. Who do you most admire in music and why? At the moment Laurie Anderson because she does her own thing.

micahu & the shapes

If you could play a gig anywhere in space and time where would it be? It would be amazing to play a gig 100s of years ago in London - we would probably be hung for witch craft or something! Thoughts on the music industry… It exists… I try not to think about it. What makes you happy? Orange juice Most embarrassing moment? Hard to pick just one. Not so long ago someone said ‘Come to Copenhagen’ and I said ‘Yeah OK, I love Germany.’ Azaelia Banks or Lianne La Havas? Depends what for VICE or NME? NME Micachu & The Shapes play Coalition on Saturday 13th October

Drink In Brighton presents

MAJOR LAZER + DAVID RODIGAN (MBE) + FLOSSTRADAMUS (Fools Gold / Mad Decent) Eastbourne Winter Gardens, Eastbourne Drink In Brighton is very proud to announce a very special show taking place at The Winter Garden in Eastbourne this November, with none other than the amazing MAJOR LAZER. Since its inception in 2009, the one-armed cartoon Jamaican renegade know as Major Lazer (fronted by Grammy-nominated DJ and producer Diplo) has become a cultural zeitgeist. From being sampled by Beyonce for her single “Run The World (Girls)”, to selling out shows and playing festivals across the world or leading the way in the current dancehall revival movement and producing the upcoming Snoop Dogg album, Major Lazer’s world takeover since the release of GUNS DON’T KILL PEOPLE... LAZERS DO is undeniable. Don’t miss this gig – this is an absolute, 100% MUST. 7pm – 11pm £16 + Booking Fee 14+ Under 16’s must be accompanied
