Uniform Of Brigadier General Walter Hagenberger with General’s Stars from Chenault’s Uniform! This uniform was worn by Brigadier General Walter Hagenberger, Deputy Commander 14th Air Force – “The Flying Tigers.” During the three years of operations against the Japanese, the 14th Air Force destroyed 2600 enemy planes, sunk 2 million tons of enemy merchant marines, knocked out 500 bridges and killed over 60,000 Japanese troops. As Chenault’s second in command of the “Flying Tiger’s”, General Hagenberger was promoted in the field in China by General Claire Chenault, who gave him his own personal brigadier general’s stars; as they were the only U.S. General’s stars available in Asia.
