Brief & Background

The Datashed

Brief The brief was basically to design some illustrations and icons which would spice up the current website and make it more visually engaging and eye-catching for the viewer. They needed 3 main images for the site which illustrates different aspects of The DataShed. Illustrations 1. The Data Shed – noise in, clean data out (basically what you’ve already done) 2. Single customer view – linking everything your customer is doing to the same person so you can see everything about them in one place. 3. Analysis tools & dashboards Icons: 1. Shed 2. Single customer view 3. Analysis 4. Hosting 5. Integration 6. Apps 7. Database 8. Consultation

The DataShed The DataShed is a new business set up to support other business with their data problems. In an area that’s baffling and laden with nerd and technology speak they want to cut through the noise and simplify data and analysis for their customers and present the data in a manageable way, with user friendly software.

The main premise is that customers email, complain, buy, log in, tweet, chat on facebook, register, request brochures, research online then visit in store, view tv ads, call to chase an order, buy online then pick up in store etc… The Datashed basically consolidates all the businesses data sources into one place and then

groups actions made by customers, so the business can make better decisions based on an accurate picture of their world. The Datashed basically turns complicated data into a manageable format. They are a technology company using cutting edge software to offer very new solutions.

Design Idea The first imagery I came up with was for the overview of the data shed, I decided to take this in a quite literal sense. I decided to use mechanical shed like imagery to give the company a more human touch. Technology seems to scare the majority of people that don’t know how to use it, so by using more down to earth imagery it will help to attract

a wider audience and hopefully make the concept of the DataShed a bit easier to understand, they basically take a heap of data, do some ‘heavy lifting’ in order to create manageable data for companies to use. The client was really happy with the style of design and the concept behind the shed, leaving minor colour changes.

Single Customer View

£ Concept The concept behind the single customer view feature, is that companies need to be able to see all customers interactions. Be it online in store or others, what the single customer view aspect allows you to do is piece together those ‘random’ interactions to get an overall view of how a customer is interacting with the company.

The Single customer view feature also means that you are able to distinguish between duplicate customers. Often companies have the same person on record several times, this aspect of DataShed pieces together the puzzle eradicating duplicates and allowing you to easily access information about a specific customer with ease.

Analysis Tools & Dashboard GIFF

The Datashed

After a sit down with the client we decided the best way to illustrate the concept behind the tools and dashboard would be to use a GIFF as there were too many aspects that needed illustrating. The main concept that needed highlighting was the flexibility of the DataShed. I needed to show how adding random bit of data can affect the results, and to

show how easy it is to play with the data available. The second point that needed illustrating, was the users interaction with the information available, and how the dashboard can be re-arranged in any way to suit the users needs. I tried to show drastic change within the data, when other elements are added.

Icon Designs

Separate Icons requested by client from Single Customer View Illustration

After sending of my design sheets full of icon ideas we narrowed it down to these 8 icons. and finalized the imagery needed for each. I have made sure that the icons work in a series and that the design style is consistent. It is important that all the icons work together otherwise it would ruin the composition of the website and the icons would look out of place. I have stuck with the company brand guidelines using the navy blue provided.

I have tried to create icons which are different from the conventional icons you see everywhere as The DataShed want to be have their own identity. I have used quite playful imagery for the icons. For instance you can see that integration is represented by pieces of a jigsaw slotted together, also the single customer view signifies target someone and singling them out etc...
