White balance is removing the color casts created by different temperatures of light so the people and objects in your photos are the right color

Different temperatures of light have different colors. Measured on the Kelvin scale Different light sources create different temperatures based on their components Different times of day will have different temperatures

Files get very large when layered

Which do you use? ●

RAW is most flexible, but large file sizes and need for editing program can make it cost prohibitive

JPG is finished, but you can't over edit

TIFF is not available on all cameras

Recommend shooting in RAW when you can


Editing Programs ●

Not required for JPG, but they make your images pop

Must use for RAW

Think of them like a digital darkroom

Most famous is Photoshop

Also available are Photoshop Elements, Lightroom Free programs include GIMP and Picasa
