PREVIEW

• In 2010, Syracuse made its second trip to the NCAA Tournament semifinals in the last three years. The Orange were the only team in last year’s tournament to win a game on the road, posting victories at Georgetown and James Madison. Syracuse became just the second unseeded team to advance to the Final Four since 2005. • The Orange return seven starters from last year’s squad that finished the season with a record of 15-9. The 15 victories were the second-highest single-season total in program history. • Senior Liz Hogan returns in goal for the Orange. Last season, Hogan was named the IWLCA Goalkeeper of the Year and selected to the All-America First Team after leading the nation in saves with a school-record 211. She earned the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year and was a unanimous selection to the All-BIG EAST First Team.

PREVIEW

• Villanova enters its second year of BIG EAST play turning in an 8-8 record last year, including a 1-7 mark in league play. • The Wildcats offense figures to start with junior Justine Donodeo, who led the Wildcats with 47 goals last season and 57 points. • Maria Bowman tallied 16 goals to go with four assists as a freshman and it is anticipated her role will expand with a year of experience on her resume. Shannon Lane, who made 11 appearances and scored three goals, has been relocated and will often work behind the opponent’s cage. • One of the midfield leaders will be Rachel Lasda, who enters her second season as a team captain in 2011. She was third on the Wildcats in scoring last season with 26 goals and eight assists for 34 points. She also accumulated 20 ground balls while starting all 16 games.
