True North Continued FROM page 44

There seems to be a direct conflict of interest here when editors and contributors are interviewing upcoming judges for shows and then showing to those same judges. How is the advertiser protected? How do they know how many “issues” of the magazine are “emailed”. Ahh Technology, it was supposed to make our lives easier! As the True North deals with the many changes brought about by the digital age meeting the dog fancy it is happy to report that an old but friendly face is back! The Canadian Kennel Club has just announced that the Dogs in Canada Annual will be published once again. The announcement from the CKC: We’re pleased to announce that - after a two year hiatus - the popular and respected Dogs In Canada Annual will return with a Sneak Peek edition publishing on July 31, 2013. This special edition marks a return to form for Dogs In Canada, and hints strongly at the rejuvenated design, content and editorship that will be evident when the publication returns at full-strength in early 2014. The Dogs Annual is a must-read publication for dog breeders and purebred lovers across Canada, and it returns with the backing and editorial excellence of one of the country’s top-tier publishers behind it. The Globe and Mail won the publishing contract last year based on its vision to refresh the magazine, which has a long history of excellence. In addition to articles and columns on breeding, dog ownership and canine nutrition, The Globe will include more lifestyle articles to reach a wider audience, including more pet owners. The Globe is among the most awarded Canadian publishers, not only for its outstanding newspaper editorial content, but also for its magazines, art direction and custom content. What’s more, Globe print and website readers love their pets...and spend a combined total of over $1.1 billion annually on the care and feeding of them. Importantly, Dogs Annual and Dogs in Canada remain the only official publications of the CKC. During the hiatus of Dogs Annual and Dogs in Canada,

a number of look-alike publications sprang up in an attempt to capitalize on the void. However, Dogs Annual and Dogs in Canada are the only true voice of the Canadian Kennel Club and continue to represent Canada’s responsible, professional dog breeders and purebred dog owners. With a paid circulation of 40,000 copies including 20,000 to CKC members, Dogs Annual has long been a best seller on newsstands. The Globe will continue to distribute the magazine to CKC members, as well as expand the distribution to pet lovers in the Greater Toronto Area not yet exposed to the benefits of purebred ownership.
