Cutting speed formulas Efficient cutting speed Veff = π× Deff × n/1000 (n = min-1) When slope increasing, Deff also increasing. Efficient diameter Deff calculation formula : Deff = (2 ap(D-ap) × α) D = ∅(Tool diameter) Efficient cutting speed formulas : When slope ∅ is 0Veff = π× Deff × n/1000, Deff = Efficient diameter Calculate Deff as ap with various ball endmills.

α:

α= 1 α= 1.2 α= 1.5 α= 1.7 α= 2.17 α= 2.3

Slope θ= 0 Slope θ= 7 Slope θ= 15 Slope θ= 30 Slope θ= 45 Slope θ= 60

Graph for efficient diameter calculation (Efficient diameter graph as Ф with various ap)

Ex) When ∅6 Ball endmill’s ap is 0.3. Efficient diameter Deff becomes 2.6. Therefore, when n is 14,000 efficient cutting speed, Veff, becomes 113.7[m/min]. The graph above is relation between axial depth of 1~16∅ ball endmills and efficient diameter.
